The Clean Power Mess - Wishful Thinking
I’ve read so much about the necessity for Clean, Alternative Power it makes my head ache. But in most blogs and newspapers that I’ve scanned, the real truth — The Reality of the Situation — is rarely if ever addressed or even understood.
People and their opinions as to the solutions to Climate Change problems and dirty hydrocarbon energy, are just plain stupid. Depth of thought is sadly lacking…
It seems clearly evident to me that when an argument is heard about the dirge of hydrocarbon energy and its effect on the planet, alot of people seem to go into a environmentally correct spin and just start to babble and blab about solutions rather than thinking them through. “Ooo…Wind Power is the best…it’s so quiet!!”, “No, no…Tidal Power is by far the best….so discreet!!”, “C’mon girls….solar power is streaks ahead..way more efficient!!”.
Let me state something quite clearly. I want a solution to the energy and Climate Change crisis as well as any other person. I’m not being cynical here. Like everyone else here, I like my lifestyle the way it is. If we don’t find a solution, the impact on the cost to our lifestyles will be horrific. People don’t seem to think about this effect. Simply put, the cost of everything — that’s EVERYTHING that you can think of folks — will go up significantly in cost. Because every industrial and business process needs energy. OK, now I’ll be cynical…
The best way to look and analyze this problem is point by point, pros and cons. So here goes:
Wind Power: Imagine it now if you will. Hectares and hectares and hectares of land dedicated to Propeller Power. Sound good ? These machines will probably replace trees. Energy generated is inefficient and inconsistent. And it would take a Wind Farm the size of Wales to generate enough power just for Central London. I think not.
Solar Power: Sounds good doesn’t it ? Quiet, clean energy on tap. But also inefficient, inconsistent and has one other big failing. Virtually all the constituent parts of asolar panel — that’s over 80 % of it — consists of plastics derived from oil waste. That’s another negative then.
Tidal Power: Not gonna waste time with this one: grossly inefficient, inconsistent and way too expensive.
Nuclear Power: Clean and efficient. Big danger if there are accidents. Problem with disposal of radioactive waste. The energy resource is finite. But it is likely that, in the future, they will solve the problems of nuclear waste disposal.
Nuclear Fusion: Another clean, efficient option. The resource is also infinite. This works on the same principle as the sun for generating energy. The nuclear waste only has a half life of 100 years. Good option.
From the åbove comparison, it is so clear that Nuclear is the way to go. With an eventual move to Nuclear Fusion when the technology for this arrives. But for those of you who are throwing up your hands in horror and screaming: “No. no….anything but nuclear !!”, like a knee jerk reaction, I just say this:
If you don’t agree then give me a solution. That’s all. Just give me a clear, efficient, viable alternative.
Or just shut up, get on your bike, and go back to your nice warm home (your electric is probably derived from nuclear, coal or oil, like as not), brew up some nice comfrey tea (same, same) and THINK about it….
