The Double-Talk Express keeps rolling on and on…

Make way for the double-talk express! This pairing truly brings new meaning to the phrase ‘politics makes strange bedfellows.’ It’s a damned good thing for John McCain that the mainstream media is so utterly brain-dead and useless because any self-respecting journalist would ride this story into the sunset. The new love fest between McCain and Karl Rove is the ultimate testimony to McCain’s lack of character. As I’ve written before, the 71-year-old McCain knows this is most likely his last chance at the big prize and he is pulling out all the stops. Why else would he buddy up to such a worm?

After McCain took New Hampshire in the 2000 primary, Karl Rove stepped in and pulled George Bush out of the fire. In South Carolina, Rove conducted a phony poll in a deliberate effort to smear John McCain into losing that state. The poll asked South Carolinians, “Would you be more or less likely to vote for John McCain if you knew he had fathered an illegitimate black child?” Of course, McCain had been campaigning with his daughter, Bridget, whom he adopted from Bangladesh. It doesn’t take rocket science to sway that state’s white conservative bigots. It worked and Bush won South Carolina, changing the face of the Republican primary.

But that’s ancient history to McCain because he needs Karl Rove’s “great political mind” (as well as his $2,300 donation). Know what? What Karl Rove specializes in isn’t the result of having a great political mind. What Karl Rove is good at is a result of being devoid of both character and ethics. It’s just as simple as that. Let’s cut through all this double talk. It’s sickening to watch John McCain being painted as a maverick who stands up to the powers that be and rejects special interests. He is no such thing. If McCain is willing to compromise himself by teaming up with the political operative who once cut his throat, it’s pretty clear he does not deserve the job. It makes you wonder what other compromises he might see fit to make on our behalf once he’s elected. I’ll pass, if you don’ t mind.

We can thank ourselves for the mess we’re in. Our post 9-11, trust-the-government-to-do-the-right-thing attitude has fostered eight years of brazen misdeeds by contemptible self-serving career politicians and political operatives. It’s pretty clear that isn’t going to change by housing a hypocrite like John McCain at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
