Diplomacy Is the Art of Saying “Nice Doggy” Until You Find A Big Rock

Sensing Weakness Putin Acts; Timid Recoil; U. S. Faces Threat, and Sides Are Being Picked

On a day when Russia is threatening a harsh response, beyond the diplomatic, to the placement of U. S. anti-missile radar and missiles Paul M. Weyrich Chairman and CEO of the Free Congress Foundation blames, if obliquely, cold warriors including George H. W. Bush for the wreckage in Georgia. His thesis is Russia should have been invited into NATO after the former USSR collapse and that would have prevented such aggression.

As unlikely as such deterrence seems; Weyrich’s contention is that had his advise and that of Edward (Ed) Lozansky, president of the American University, in Moscow, William S. (Bill) Lind, and Russian Parliamentarian Arkady Murashev been followed Russia’s paranoia would have been satisfied and such border wars avoided. Weyrich says that Boris Yeltsin, the first freely elected president of Russia said he was open to the idea. That maybe true but the conditions mot think including NATO members would be onerous.

President George H. W. Bush’s advisers were absolutely against this idea. If he had had the foresight to disregard their counsel and push for our idea how different history very probably would be today.

Weyrich recalls visiting with Bush in the Oval Office after Dr. Robert (Bob) Krieble and I returned from Moscow, where we had found that Mikhail Gorbachev, the political rage at the time over here, was not popular in Russia. Yeltsin was much more popular. He says he told Bush if Gorbachev were replaced, his replacement could be someone more to our liking but H. W. Bush said he feared a replacement would be a Stalinist.

At that time Russia was in turmoil. It was broke. The old Soviet system was struggling to somehow stay relevant; Russia had been exposed as a paper tiger unprepared for conventional conflict but armed to the nuclear teeth, and in any case hindsight is while precise-moot. Plus former Soviet satellites had turned to the West as savior and barely scabbed over from decades of Soviet brutality and repression, and were loath to let the recently caged Bear loose into their bailiwicks.

“Is it now impossible for us to start over? Must Russia be our enemy? If it were, would we be prepared to fight another war? I don’t have the answers but it seems to me we must begin to think outside the box. Surely we must have new advisers with new thinking. The alternative is to risk sinking into the abyss of a new war with Russia. Do we need this? “asks Weyrich. Answering ,”No.”

Unfortunately Weyrich skips the key point that the U. S. and its allies need not be Russia’s enemy for it to be ours. So much so that I detect a surging optimism on the extreme left that it maybe time to reconnect with Russian cash to resurrect the American Progressive Party aka., Communist Party USA, or likely by another name and a willingness in some dachas outside Moscow to try it because they have the cash to do it.

ISIS Study Points Up Complexity of “Killing” Iran’s Nuke Weapons Program and Keeping It Dead

Is there more than the obvious way to skin a cat?

Israel Could Almost Certainly Devastate Iran’s Nuke Program But It Would Need Help to Keep It That Way

A new report titled “Can Military Strikes Destroy Iran’s Gas Centrifuge Program? Probably Not,” by The Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS) says the destruction of Iran’s nuclear program would require a sustained air combat campaign by the United States presumably because Israel couldn’t sustain it after its initial attacks. .

ISIS’s premise is that Iran’s nuclear program has been dispersed, concealed, and protected and this would rule out a limited air strike on Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities. Destruction it says “would need multiple strikes against many sites.”

ISIS said because Teheran’s uranium enrichment program is based on gas centrifuges, they could be dispersed throughout Iran. Conversely Iraq and Syria had sought to develop nuclear weapons based on reactors it made both vulnerable to pinpoint strikes.

ISIS thinks that “Following an attack, Iran could quickly rebuild its centrifuge program in small, easily hidden facilities focused on making weapon-grade uranium for nuclear weapons,” the report, dated Aug. 7, said.

The two leading Iranian nuclear facilities were identified as Isfahan and Natanz. ISIS said the destruction of these two facilities would require “far more military ordinance than that used” to bomb Iraq’s Osirak reactor or Syria’s Al Kibar. Israel destroyed Osirak in 1981 and Al Kibar in 2007. ISIS does not describe how or if Israel could wipeout Isfahan and Natanz.

Absent ISIS opinion on that subjects it is very likely that Israel has sophisticated ordinance that it could almost certainly deliver spot on target with devastating results.

Further ISIS infers that Israel has likely mapped Iran’s nuclear facilities in detail it, most probably with on-ground agents as it did in Syria last fall. It does not discuss what would be “ball bearing plant equivalent” for Iran’s or where it is making precision centrifuge parts. Once know that becomes equivalent to destroying Nazi Germanys ability to make ball bearings for it was those steel balls that literally propelled Hitler’s war machines - so it is with the centrifuge parts factories.

The report says Isfahan was said to contain more than 300 tons of uranium hexafluoride, or UF6, a feeder gas that could facilitate the production of more than 30 nuclear weapons. Clearly destroying that would create a significant contamination problem for Iran and set Iran back many months and it a priority.

ISIS’s contention that Iran can somehow establish a cottage industry of thousands of centrifuges and effectively serialize the sequential refinement of purer and purer uranium 235 feels far fetched.

Whether ISIS’s report is spot on, flawed or of limited efficacy it does underscore the complexities involved.

ISIS said Western intelligence remains uncertain of the precise locations and vulnerabilities of Iranian nuclear facilities.

Personally I have little doubt Israel has and can apply the tactics necessary to badly damage Iran nuclear ambitions, and unless Iran suddenly shows a hitherto unseen willingness to be reasonable it is going to be proved, and sooner than later.

DESINFORMATSIA: Kremlin Jewish Leader Critical of Georgia

IsraeRussian Power Grapl’s Haaretz News reports that Boris Spiegel, self acclaimed friend of Putin and nominal spiritual leader is accusing the Georgians in the recent Russian power grab.

The word in Russian for this is an English cognate which truly covers the subject : DESINFORMATSIA. The other applicable phrase is “navesti nenavist’ na vraga”–which literally means “aim hatred at the enemy. If you have ever seen Soviet WW II posters, you will be struck by their effectiveness [cf. my post “Georgia : Stalin’s First Break” includes a good example with translation of the text

The integration of all sources in this affair clearly indicates premeditation. Watch out Azerbaijan, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and eventually Ukraine if Putin is allowed his Sudeten like treasure.

I have include the link to the Haaretz article, interpretation that of Marshall Risidin.

Hillary Clinton Camp Accuses Edwards of Wrecking Her Nomination

Nooky what?

Edwards “Anti-Poverty PAC” and finance Chair Paid $114,000 and $15,000 or so a month to mother of Edwards alleged bastard daughter. Andrew Young and wife move into her exclusive Santa Barbara home.Who let the dog in? No comment.

Records indicate that an Edwards PAC, the One American Committee, which was set up to fight poverty, spent $114,000 for the production of several short Web-based videos. The videos were produced in 2006 by Rielle Hunter; the same woman with whom Edwards has belatedly admitted committing adultery.

A key question is, Why would Edwards direct his “anti-poverty” PACThanks John! One more mouth to feed. to pay an arguably inflated price to a relatively inexperienced individual for three third rate videos?

Additionally, according to Fox News, Fred Baron, a Dallas lawyer and former campaign finance chairman for Edwards, gave money in the $15,000-a-month range to Hunter.

In addition to denying the adulterous sexual affair, the later night visit to Hunter and her bastard daughter at the Beverly Hilton Hotel Edwards is doing his best Sergeant Schultz Same Baron?routine claiming he had no knowledge of Baron’s payments and that he learned about the cash given to Hunter from the press. Hunter now lives in a rented multimillion dollar home in a gated section of Montecito, an exclusive area near Santa Barbara, Calif.

In a bizarre twist Andrew Young (a top Edwards aide who claimed to be the father of Hunter’s child) and his wife are reportedly roommates of Hunter at the Montecito home.

Hunter and business partner Mimi Hockman apparently set up Midline Groove Productions in 2006 to produce the Edwards Web videos. Its website has disappeared but the Edwards videos have resurfaced via an anonymous posting on YouTube.

Hillary Clinton supporters are now claiming it was Edwards who cost her the Democrat nomination, and had he emerged as the party nominee to have this scandal surface he could have eviscerated the Democratic Party. It is a bitter irony that Bill Clinton’s impeachment was for perjury over his sexual tryst with White House fellatrix Monica Lewinsky.

HypChanneling Returns - 2008 Impreachment of President Bush

Premeditated prevarication?HypChanneling returns, this time in beta tripartite diploSpeak, a new UN standard for international crimes, styled as a retro platonic menage a trois.

Our featured High Crimes and Misdemeanor Trio consists of The W (George Bush) as The Accused who is grilled with consistent truthfulness by The JE (John Edwards) who was congressionally appointed to keep him in the game, as The Chief Prosecutor. This trial was presided over by The CH, The Chief Hypocrite, as The Decider. The CH is also the assembler of this first and only report to the public.

You will not read about this Impreachment anywhere else, because of the special circumstances under which it was conducted. Yes, you read that correctly.

It has already begun, been completed and is over and is not even a footnote in history. You nor the MSM or for that matter any of the MLM (Minor League Media ie bloggers) knew or still knows anything about this unusual event, details of which will be unclassified and released after 50 years or after the death of all involved or via leaking by the New York Times, whichever comes first.

History does have a way of repeating at least portions of itself, however there always seems to be a new twist in each incarnation. The 2008 Impreachment was enabled in a secret, unpublished classified compromise amendment, signed by Bush with a disappearing ink pen, which amendment was attached to one of the many bills passed by the Democrat majorities.

These several bills, essentially legitimized all of President Bush’s alleged illegal actions. Despite that, many of the secret signatories still contribute impotent diatribes on the subject of various impeachable acts to the media to “energize” their progressive base. Regardless, Bush and the Democrats toasted in secret underground signing ceremonies, which we got an exclusive grainy photo of.

Too bad we didn’t get a photo with audio, especially at the point where Bush fist tapped Nancy Pelosi, saying, “You go, Girl!” and she responded “Free our President”, insisting on a high five.

The historic compromises included, from Bush, that he would agree to plead nolo contendere, although he did not remember who nolo was and bristled a little at the uppity spanish used.

Compromises from the Democrats included pretending in public that he was never tried or convicted or disclosing any of the terms of his sentence which included permanent immunity from any future crimes, real or imagined, although they reserved the right to complain bitterly and forever about his crimes.

To ensure that they could never say Bush was Impeached, when they wrote the bill they called it Impreachment. Bush thought that had an evangelical flavor and was grateful. They also were grateful figuring that their unlimited assertions of high crimes and misdemeanors permanently into the future would ensure funding advantages over the Republicans for years and periodically re-energizng the base when needed.

The Impreachment proceedings, including the direct exchanges between the Chief Prosecutor and The Accused reportedly were not all retained in media form, except for the copy we obtained. One of the conditions we agreed to reluctantly was never to release enough of it to convince anyone of it’s validity and never to correct the New York Times even when they misreport.

For this report we have decided to release this noteworthy transcribed snippet, we have dubbed “The Outright Lie”.

The CH: Gentlemen, start your engines, you know the rules.

The JE: Thank you Chief. As one Chief to another, I trust that you will not take offense at how I conducted myself during our last interview, I must admit that I was in a deliberative process of learning that my internal adviser had partially turned my good judgment over to the hubris of my circumstances all of which has made me a better man, husband, father and candidate, don’t you think?

The CH: Please continue with the important proceedings at hand.

The JE: Agreed. My thoughts exactly, glad we see things the same way.

Now, Mr President….ahh, Mr President…..after exhaustive reviews of all the films (including direct one on one meetings with one web based filmmaker) and political books chronicling your multiple and outrageous abuses of the public trust, embarrassing your family and your party and your countrymen in full view of our allies and enemies around the globe, as you shredded the US Constitution over and over again, breaking US and international law unilaterally, I saw two Americas.

The W: Like north and south?

The JE: Easy now, Mr President. No. First I saw the average man, struggling to keep his family fed and clothed and in good health without access to health insurance, struggling for a better tomorrow like my dad did in the mills. And then I see your kind, with narcissistic privilege, access, money, unaccountability, taking advantage of others because you can, assuming you are invincible and willing to look the camera in the eye and say I did not do it and I do not know what you are talking about as I’ve responded consistently.

The W: For some reason, that does sound kinda familiar.

The JE: Stop interrupting! Mr President, how could you invade Iraq knowing it was all based on a lie?

The W: All I really know, is what Cheney, Big Al, Hillary, Colin and the Clinton CIA guy told me, that y’al

saw what they all told me about and you voted for me to do it, didn’t you?

The JE: But, Mr Presidnet you knew more than me, in fact you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt, a high crime and misdemeanor, that there was no WMD in Iraq! You lied to the American people, to me, to your wife and kids and to the world just so you could get something that hurt us all! You said the reason we had to go into Iraq was to find and destroy the WMD there.

The W: I’ll tell you something I have never told anyone before about this WMD thing in Iraq. Come closer.

The JE: Quiet confession is good for the soul, Mr President, and I pray redemption continues to be the American way.

The CH: Speak up, I need to hear this.

The W: I confess I was upset when Michael Moore said I was not as smart as a Democrat. He said a Democrat would have been smart enough to plant WMD in Iraq after we invaded and could not find any like we thought. I never thought about that…hurt my feelings. That’s my confession, and damn if you’re not right, I feel better now.

The CH: Case dismissed.

Alphabet Soup of Activist Hypocrites Try to Block Wind and Wave Energy Projects In California.

Childish hypocrites

Hypocrisy of obstructionist minority, egotists and “nimbyism” harming everyone else.

Fifty-one percent of Californians support drilling off its coast bringing to 49 states that do support it. Some want to pursue only alternatives and most say do it all.

The Electric Power Research Institute estimates enough wave power can be extracted from coastal waters to account for about 15 percent of California’s electricity production. Wind could provide up to 110 percent, according to a Stanford University study published last year. Wind and Wave generated electricity could replace 125% of California’s electricity.

Offshore wind and wave technologies are promising, but untried. But, current wave technology is mature enough for demonstration testing.

Even before there are concrete plans to do either obstructionist are swarming all over the idea. Speculating about potential damage to the coast’s prized vistas and fish industry.

Northern California’s biggest utility company, Pacific Gas and Electric Co., would connect such wind and wave produced electricity to the power grid.

The Recreational Fishing Alliance is skeptical. concerned wave power may interfere with fisheries as the buoys bob up and down in the waves. Their biggest complaint right now, however, is that local fishermen and residents have had no say in the planning. Fishermen Interested in Safe Hydrokinetics, or FISH is battling for a role in the planning.

Both group frittered for months and missed a federal deadline has passed for gaining an official voice in the legal planning for the wave projects, alongside PG&E and federal energy regulators.

Strange Haze Deemed Cause of PPS in Capitol

Only cheap alternative solution, no sponsors thus no funding for studyThe Underground Association (UASS), a quiet think tank devoted to studying the cause of PPS which afflicts most of our nations governmental incumbents according to recent polls giving congress a record low 9% approval rating, barely more than a quarter of President Bush’s own personal best low, sans warm fuzzies, has developed a new theory and as luck would have it there might be a solution or two, all very expensive.

These pictures taken from on high seem to establish an 88% correlation between the observations of the dubbed “Hazy Phenom” (TM) and the PPS, some think stands for Partisan Political Stupidities, but that has not yet been confirmed by the AIL, the Agency for Intelligent Life, an underfunded department of NASA which collaborates with UASS.

Merck is said to be negotiating with overseas investors to fund the years of testing the bullet shaped pill vaccine they have developed will require. Please, please do not trade Merck stock based on this Insider Information not yet publicly available.

If ultimately approved, it will be given to all political parties at a taxpayer cost of $100,000 per dose, most of which will go to the overseas investors because no Democrat wants domestic Merck to be the next Exxon. Only one dose is thought to be necessary for the first year, thereafter the taxpayer will get a break with the biannual booster doses ($70,000 each) which are required, unless a special needs double dose is required in the case of Larry Craig, Ted Stevens and John Edwards to name only a few.

Each dose is to be taken rectally immediately by anyone who declares their candidacy for public office. Losers in any campaign will be eligible for half the normal lucrative congressional retirement package after a 2 month waiting period. Fortunately, for the FDA required study, it will be necessary to enlist only a few actual live incumbent political volunteers, who will immediately then be eligible for 4 times their lucrative governmental retirement package, plus their normal salary and perks.

Taxpayers are receiving a huge Congressionally Mandated Expenditure Reduction Benefit due to the adroitly formulated study in this 2008 Enactment, because most of the tests will be run on about a 1000 randomly selected amongst the newly discovered 125,000 previously unknown lowland gorillas in Africa, the closest known genetic match up to the subjects under consideration. Each of these gorillas and their descendants into the next four generations will only receive half the benefit of the human participants.

If this does not work, some think the UN will have to be brought in to help our government eventually manage a merger with higher intelligent life SETI hopes to find SOON, but if that does not happen, then perpaps, Robert Mugabe could be recruited to pull us out of our downward spiral which many believe is due directly to the PPS epidemic. Others think T. Boone Pickens should be hired to build a giant fan to blow them away, or at least the Hazy Phenom and solve our energy problems at the same time.

Drinkable Water Will be Oil of 21st Century

Valuable Canadian ResourceA 1982 paper predicted lack of potable water will be fighting words in 21st Century. Vancourver BC and its 117 inches of annual rainfall is one of largest fresh water sources on Earth. But, Canadian law forbids pipeline into U. S.

Los Angeles in a bid to cut down on water use by residents and businesses will quadruple fines for businesses and double them for residents and put 16 water police on patrol who will first hand out warnings, then cite people don’t listen and respond. Among other restrictions, lawns may not be watered between nine a.m. and four p.m., and restaurants won’t be offering free water anymore.

A decade ago “Water Police” roamed Santa Barbara streets tagging leaky water bibs, threatening residents with the temerity to wash their car in their own driveway, and a man names “Doctor Dirt” painted lawns green with vegetable dye. The Santa Barbara City Council spent $35 million on a reverse osmosis desalination plant that was immediately mothballed and now may spend $200,000 to “study” whether it can be brought back on line.

San Diego wants to build a $300 million desalination plant. Environmental Science and Technology on line points out desalination’s very high costs. Electricity. It says, accounts for 44% of the typical costs of producing drinking water with plants that use reverse osmosis. An energy rate hike of 25% pushes up water prices. Also, desalination can have environmental consequences. The discharge of the highly salty waste brine-often laced with chemicals and metals-can harm fish populations and accumulate in the food chain, the report points out.

Water will return as a planning issue. In Cambria, near San Simeon’s Hearst Castle, water meter’s were granted on a lottery system when the tiny tourist town opted out of the Colorado River water pipeline. All over water became and will again become a tool to limit growth and restrict development.

Governor Schwarzenegger is using the drought to promote a $12 billion bond issue that would fund new dam projects. The scheme is opposed by Democrats, who predictably argue that conservation is more important.

California has suffered drought-like conditions for several years, this winter was one of the driest on record. Rainfall in the Golden State during the winter months was 1.2 inches, or 22 per cent of the average for the 114 years since records began.

California and the West experienced periodic drought in 1987-89, 1976-1979, 1934 that created the fabled dust bowl as well as lesser droughts in the 1950s, and the devastation of the 1880s. What many people don’t recognize, however, is that over the past 400 years droughts have occurred several times per century (Priest et al., 1993; NOAA Paleoclimatological Program, 2000).

The politically correct explanation is this drought, the recent wildfires are a consequence of anthropomorphically induced climate change. What is certain is Californians are running out of potable water, nothing was done since the last drought and all sorts of harebrained schemes will be reintroduced. Then it will rain.

Hypocrisy of Being Green

Green is too green for meI just read a fascinating article by Alice Thompson of the Times Online who was discussing a new book “Not In My Name - A Compendium of Modern Hypocrisy” by Julie Burchill:

The premise is that as the economy gets worse, people no longer care about being green because they can’t afford it any more. It makes perfect sense. When you were making a good salary and had enough to satisfy your basic needs then you had the extra to buy the higher priced green items. But today, when money is tight, buying green is a luxury available only to the upperclass or “toffs”.

Perhaps because most people can’t afford to go green, there is a growing trend to mock the rich who are green. There is a collective sarcastic laugh by the masses when Al Gore and his ilk continue to lecture everyone else. In a bad economy that “Truth” of Gore’s is not simply “Inconvenient” but is now ridiculous. Who is going to pay extra for green

foods when they have barely enough to put any food on the table? Not only are people backing away from the expensive green ideology but they are also laughing at far left greenies and monitoring their hypocrisies. The conservative bloggers and other right wings take delight in finding and counting the hypocrisy of Gore and other greenies who preach that we must be green while they fly around in their private gas guzzling jets.

Green is too green for meAlthough Gore and his Hollywood sycophants still tout the green doctrine, the politicians are observing which way the wind is blowing and are now changing their tune.Green pastures for all Maybe that’s another reason Gore is such a lousy politician, but even Obama has given fewer and fewer green speeches. Because as long as the economy is lousy, only Kermit can afford to be green.

Voter Fatigue Sets In - Enough Coverage of Obama Already

Can't get to the election fast enoughConversely Voters Say (in other polls) They Still Don’t Know What Obama Stands For Or Who He Is.

Forty-eight percent told the Pew Research Center they’re heard too much about the Democratic candidate, Obama according to a poll released Wednesday by the nonpartisan center. Just 26 percent said the same about his Republican rival, John McCain.

According to an ongoing Pew study, Obama has appeared in more news stories this year and more people say they have heard more about him than McCain, the longtime Arizona senator who also ran for president in 2000.

Two-thirds of Republicans and about half of independents said they’ve heard too much about Obama, as did a third of Democrats, a significant number.

Nearly four in 10 said they’ve been hearing too little about McCain _ about four times the number who said so about Obama. About half of Republicans, four in 10 independents and even a quarter of Democrats said they’ve not heard enough about the GOP candidate.

Congressional Commission Warns of Advanced Iranian Weapon Meant to Attack USA

A congressional commission warns that Iran is developing an advanced missile and a nuclear warhead meant to paralyze the United States.

The Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse has concluded that Iran was planning to conduct a nuclear attack that could disable U.S. infrastructure. The commission said Iran could install a nuclear warhead on a Shihab-3 missile that would result in an electromagnetic pulse that would destroy power, software and electronics. This is the first time such an official warning has been issued. But, the topic has been speculated for sometime.

“Iran has also tested high-altitude explosions of the Shihab-3 a test mode consistent with EMP attack, and described the tests as successful. Iranian military writings explicitly discuss a nuclear EMP attack that would gravely harm the United States,” commission chairman William Graham said. “While the commission does not know the intention of Iran in conducting these activities, we are disturbed by the capability that emerges when we connect the dots.”

That missile alternatively named Zelzal (Earthquake)] has a range of 1,350 to 1,500 kilometers (839-932 miles). So it could not reach the continental USA from Iran. Nor does Iran have a submarine capable of subsurface missile launching. So, the weapon would have to be loaded onto a ship and make it to the near coast of the USA. and launch the weapon without being detected and blown to smithereens. If it was successful it would devastate the U. S. infrastructure for months and even years.

The attack scenario involves detonating a nuclear warhead over mid America. The area effected depends upon the size of the nuclear device used and the altitude where detonated.

Erstwhile Reporter Questions Obama On Absent Pledge of Allegiance

To the Flag.....

Despite Obama’s most vociferous denials and explanation about religion and patriotism - as recently as Monday - issues still haunt him and concern many voters

During a “town hall” meeting this week at Baldwin Wallace College near Cleveland, Ohio a man wearing press credentials asked Barack Obama why he had not opened the meeting by leading the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance. Obama countered by asking the man to do it himself and he did.

Asked why he had interrupted the event, the man said: “He (Obama) said it was a town-hall meeting” and open to the public. He expressed dismay that Obama hadn’t called for the pledge himself, saying, “You all learned the pledge in the first grade.”

Obama’s staff said they did not know the man who was equipped with a “press badge” and carrying a professional looking telephoto lens and did not know what news organization he represented, if any.

In addition to reopening the “flag” issue raised earlier when Obama muffed his response as to why he was not wearing a flag lapel pin and later started wearing one.

The “reporters” question raises the question of whether or not Obama, who attended a Muslim and for two years a Catholic elementary schools from the time he was six in Jakarta, Indonesia, learned the Pledge of Allegiance to the United State flag. His step father was a Muslim and mother an avowed atheist or agnostic. His mother sent Barack back to the United States when he was 11 or 12 although that is unclear.

In 1988 Dukakis was defeated in part because he vetoed a bill requiring students to say the Pledge of Allegiance so the issue shouldn’t be dismissed. This incident is almost certain to resurrect a video clip of Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) in which Obama did not place his hand over his heart during the playing of the national anthem at a campaign event in Indianola, Iowa.

Monday in Independence, Mo. Obama went out of his way to make a point he will not permit criticism or even questioning of his patriotism and then inexplicably left the door wide open a day later in Ohio.

There is no evidence that the “reporter” was sent by anyone and Obama’s camp has not alledged that.

Putin’s Pravda Posturing Shades of Cold War

Cold war tensionsRussia’s Underwear in bunch over U. S.-Israel Anti-Missile Radar Plans.

Iran is heading towards a major breakthrough in its nuclear weapons capability, Israel’s deputy Israel Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz warned Friday according to an AFP story. Iran is continuing to advance toward a military nuclear capability and is heading towards a major breakthrough,” the Iranian-born Mofaz told a think tank after talks in Washington with US officials.

He charged that Iran was playing for time in talks aimed at halting uranium enrichment with the United States, Russia, China, France and Britain — the permanent UN Security Council members — and Germany, the so-called P5-plus-1. “One thing is clear is Iranians are continuing their policy of buying time and so far they are succeeding,” he said.

Also on Friday Putin’s Pravda, humorously Russian for “truth”, story said “Israel has entered the last phase of its preparations against Iran.” It also said the U. S. was about to pull a “dirty trick” against Russia by installing anti-missile radar in Israel before a new president is inaugurated in 2009. Because the radar system will be jointly operated by the U. S. and Israel without interference and can detect missile launches by Russia then former Soviets have their underwear in a bunch.

Russia and the U. S. have also been butting heads over U. S. proposals to install similar radar systems and an anti-missile missile system in Poland and Eastern Europe extensively to defend against an Iranian threat on Europe. Russia is paranoid about being hemmed in a way unseen since the JFK backed down during the Cuban missile crisis and removed intermediate range nuclear tipped missiles from Turkey.

Pravda’s notorious bent to convoluted propaganda showed through claiming “the Pentagon cannot provide more, than the 200,000 US and coalition forces in the tenuously and unstable region so it could not conduct war against Iran. Russia is still smarting from its humiliation in Afghanistan and peaked by the U. S. military aid to the Mujahedeen that rubbed their collective Slavic noses in it. In any case Pravda claims even a “slight war” - read Israeli attack, and Iran “would not miss a chance to strike oil pipelines and oil structures on neighboring Arab states causing economic upheaval. Pravda said such upset would hurt Europe, India and China most. That Pravda concluded in typical stem winding fashion, “(T)he U. S. would not mind weaker competitors” inferring if Iran refuses to stop it nuclear weapons development and is attacked the U. S. would be boogie-man, provocateur and beneficiary.

Notwithstanding such contortions Israel is resolutely determined to stop Iran’s Mortal nuclear weapon’s threat because of its anti-Semitism and pledge to incinerate Israel. Russia, if it want to contribute to preventing such a conflict, could be much more constructive, and a lot more forthright.

Hypocritical Congress Ignores Will Of People

Why not, nothing left to doIts Unanamous Americans In Every State Support Offshore Oil Drilling - But Congress Goes On Vacation.

At the same moment oil companies announced the biggest profit in world history - exceeding the gross domestic product of Canada — Californians who have been the lone holdouts to allowing oil drilling off its shore for the first time favor it. According to a new Public Policy Institute of California a statewide survey finds 51-46% demanding it be allowed. That makes it unanimous from coast-to-coast that Americans want more offshore drilling.

But, Congress remains out of touch, and deadlocked in petty partisan bickering. A Democratic proposal to counter oil market speculation fell victim to the drilling dispute, failing 276-151 — nine votes short of the two-thirds needed for approval because the measure had been offered under expedited rules imposed by the Democrats to avoid GOP attempts to attach an offshore drilling provision.

A Senate bill, also aimed at curbing abuses in the oil markets, has been stalled for two weeks as Republicans have insisted it be opened to votes on a variety of other energy issues, principally offshore oil and gas drilling in areas long under development bans because of environmental concerns.

“This is no substitute for a real bill on drilling,” declared House GOP leader John Boehner of Ohio, who accused Democrats of using the oil market speculation measure to “divert attention” from their refusal to allow a vote on offshore oil drilling.

The House bill would have given new authorities to the Commodities Futures Trading Commission to oversee oil markets, increase the agency’s staff and set new requirements on certain trading. Market critics have argued that excessive speculation has contributed to the soaring oil prices.

At the White House, President Bush for the second time in two days called for lifting the offshore drilling bans, saying the Democratic-run Congress was letting down the American people by refusing to allow votes on the matter which the consensus is that the ban on offshore oil drilling would be lifted.

Instead of acting on oil independence Congress hypocritically voted to go on vacation leaving Americans to twist slowly in the wind and suffering from extortion at the hands of our enemies, exploited by oil companies, and ignored by their “representatives.”

Dangers of Charismatic Leaders

Need not apply to the US PresidencyTo make our point, we need not focus on the most criminal examples, like Hitler, Stalin and Mao…”

Shmuley Boteach asks in Tuesday’s Jerusalem Post “Can bores be President (of the United States)?”.

He points out “(A) rejection of charismatic leadership in favor of quiet moral purpose traces its roots all the way back to Moses. Born with a stutter, Moses inspired the people not with flair but with overwhelming righteousness.

Boteach rightly points out that “the three men widely considered to have been America’s greatest orators never became president. John C. Calhoun only made it to vice president, while Daniel Webster and William Jennings Bryan had six losing bids for the presidency between them.”

He rightly points to Abraham Lincon’s Gettysburg Address that bored listeners but had inspired generations until modern “educators” revised its importance.

“There is something to be said about the dangers of charismatic leadership. It can be easily abused, causing the public to follow blindly. It can obscure the real issues and substitute a false cult of personality. To make our point, we need not focus on the most criminal examples, like Hitler, Stalin and Mao….” Shmuley, who has authored 20 books mentions Martin Luther King Jr. whose mesmerizing speeches were central to the success of the civil rights movement. But his words would not have amounted to a hill of beans had King not been a man of towering moral purpose. His conclusion is compelling “in the final analysis, it would have been nothing more than entertainment.”

Call to Islamic prayer “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”

Heart Attacks? What do you think about Obama’s comments and what did he mean about Alabamans?

The resurrection and reexamination of a then largely unnoticed New York Times interview is again making ripples and raising questions about Barack Obama.

“I was a little Jakarta street kid,” Barack Obama told the New York Times a year ago, and he said he once got in trouble for making faces during Koran study classes in his elementary school. He said as president he is less likely to stereotype Muslims as fanatics - and more likely to be aware of their nationalism - since he once studied the Koran with them.

Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent according to the New York Times article by Nicholas Kristof who also reported Obama saying “It’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks.”

Obama also described the call to Islamic prayers as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”

Sean Hannity discussed Kristof’s article today, Tuesday, July 29, 2008 on his afternoon radio program. What do you think?

Links of the week

They once were missing, now they're foundBecause these are too interesting:

  • John Pomfret, former Beijing bureau chief of the Washington Post, weighs in on why China will remain a “muscle-bound adolescent” rather than develop into a superpower.
  • Pole dancing is gaining traction in China, despite the built-in barriers. Check out the video, too.

  • Ignore the title of this article, because the protest these Nigerian athletes are planning has little to do with Beijing but because “were not happy with the shoddy treatment they alleged the National Sports Commission (NSC) meted out to them and as such, according to them, ‘want the whole world to know what we passed through before coming to the games’.” Interesting. So the Olympics are being politicized by neutral parties as well.

Death Of American Diversity Confusing And Concerning

What does change mean?Change Means Different Not Better

The German magazine Der Spiegel says of Barack Obama’s speech in Berlin: “Huge Crowds Left with Mixed Feelings.” CNN’s Candy Crowley reported an “absence of euphoria” at the event. A huge crowd showed up to see what all the falderal is about and to hear substance left scratching their heads. His kumbaya-like message: “The walls between races and tribes, natives and immigrants, Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down” didn’t ring true. His comparison to the Berlin Wall was vbery shallow — the Berlin wall was a political wall that divided one people. It separated Germans from other Germans, a far cry from distinctions between nations and religions that Obama apparently wants to obliterate. A “World government” thesis reflected in Obama’s desire and even plans to shovel a trillion dollars to a gigantic U. N. world plan.

For Obama, differences seem to be what cause the world’s problems. We endlessly hear the story of his mixed-race background and his translation of his personal history into a message of the meaninglessness of difference. There are vast differences and strong nationalism between the French, English and Germans who do not share common language or cultures unlike the U. S. For instance efforts for a European Union constitution that would establish links in Europe going beyond economics and extending to politics have thus far failed.

It may come as a surprise to Obama, but for Christians, for Muslims, and for Jews, their differences do not amount to barriers to a better world but sources of meaning that define themselves and the world, says Star Parker in a Monday article. That contradicts with Obama’s idea that a homogeneous, tan colored America. A politician with a unification agenda is the penultimate of arrogance believing he/she knows best.

Parker says, what Americans “should demand from Obama is clarification of what, if anything, he sees unique about the America that he claims to loves so much. For a man whose ideal seems to be the global village, with no barriers or differences, is there anything special about the United States that makes it distinct from other nations.” For two centuries diversity has been viewed as one of the greatest strengths of America. Obama seems to assert that was and is wrong.

What is the distinction between the “proud citizen of the United States” and the “fellow citizen of the world?” Those in Berlin heard none and many went home legitimately confused. So am I.

A spray of polls find discontent with Congress, and Reporters.

Think about it.......A new WSJ/Fox News Poll finds 75% of Americans demanding more domestic oil be produced.

It is then not surprising that just 15% approve of the job Congress is doing as Democrats block and delay any new oil production.

Fifty percent believe the media makes economic conditions appear worse than they really are, Only a quarter (25%) think reporters and media outlets present an accurate picture of the economy.

49% say reporters are trying to election Barack Obama president only 14% say they are trying to help M<cCain win.

An Investors Daily study of 255 reporters founds that 92% contribute to Democrats and less than 8% say they have contributed to a Republican

Hypocrisy of oil

At The Edge of Deception by Darwin LeonMundus vult decipi ergo decipiatur translated means “The world wants to be deceived, so let it be deceived.”

It is no small irony that this Latin phrase appears in the bottom right corner of the JOKER in a deck of bicycle playing cards.

Congressional hypocrites are reportedly having secret meetings about increasing domestic oil production because they are under increasing pressure to act. At the same time they are spreading increasing rations of manure mis and disinformation. Here’s a summary of basic facts to help you sift the wheat from chaff.

A barrel of oil is 42 gallons. Domestically produced oil amounts to 41 % of the oil we consumed in March of this year. Canada supplies 12% of our nation’s oil and 20 percent of all the oil we import.; Saudi Arabia (7 percent and 13 percent); Venezuela (6 percent and 11 percent); Nigeria (6 percent and 10 percent); and Mexico (5 percent and 8 percent).

All Persian Gulf countries account for only 16% of our foreign oil imports each year from 2005 to 2007. In fact, our Persian Gulf imports declined most of this decade, from a 15-year high of a little more than 1 billion barrels in 2001 to 791.9 million barrels in 2007.

One barrel of crude oil (which is 42 gallons), yields about 19.6 gallons of gasoline. The other 22.4 gallons go into the products like: diesel and jet fuels, heating oil, liquefied petroleum gas, lubricants, asphalt, plastics, synthetic fibers, detergents, fertilizers, ink, crayons, bubble gum, deodorant, tires, and heart valves.

We consumed about 390 million gallons of gas a day last year in our cars, trucks, recreational vehicles, boats, farm implements, and construction and landscaping equipment. Back when crude was $68 a barrel (that was just last year), it accounted for about 58 percent of the price of a gallon of gasoline. The rest of the price came from refining costs (17 percent), federal and state taxes (15 percent), and distribution and marketing (10 percent).

By the way, the price of crude accounts for about 77 percent of the cost of gas at $4 a gallon.

Californians pay 63.9 cents a gallon in state and federal fuel taxes, the most in the nation. plus an additional 6% state sales tax, with some paying another 1.25% county sales tax plus applicable local sales taxes. Same in Illinois , where Chicago motorists pay 12.75 cents per gallon on top of the 57.9 cents per gallon in state and federal taxes. Some Illinois motorists also pay a 6.25-percent sales tax. It’s ironic that in such states higher per gallon gasoline prices literally shovels tons of tax money to the treasury.

Politicians, pundits, and other TV talking heads don’t like to provide these answers, because facts get in the way of positions that pander to the mob. We don’t point fingers at Canada , because it’s de rigueur to paint the Saudis with the broad brush of blame. Folks float the idea of a moratorium on state and federal gasoline taxes without explaining its minimal impact on gas prices, or without mentioning the $3 sales tax some motorists pay on top of a $50 fill up. Policymakers don’t explain that oil trades in the dollar, which is weak vis-Ã -vis the Euro, because that would require solutions for strengthening the greenback.
And, it’s easier for simple minds to convince simpler minds to impose windfall-profit taxes on pension funds and owners of Individual Retirement Accounts who invest in oil companies than to take on credit card issuers charging double- and triple-digit interest rates to the millions of people using plastic to pay for food and fuel. Talk about irony.

And, we sure wouldn’t want to impose a windfall-profit tax on someone who goes from making $56,000 a year as, say, an Illinois legislator, to $165,000 a year as, say, a U.S. senator, an increase of nearly 200 percent (not counting book deals or real-estate related loans).
