Normal to depressed to glimpsing euphoria, and back, skipping normal

What is normal

I must not have dreamed during a recent night of sleep because nothing was on my mind when I woke up.

Later, while sitting in a waiting room, I saw a title on an old Time magazine, “The Clean Energy Myth.” That jump started the blues.

Later, I head “Master Trader Sell High, Buy Low” Nancy Pelosi, repeatedly, on various 24/7 hypotainment channels, as if protesting in the 60s, chanting FREE OUR OIL”.

After all, she says, drilling is a HOAX. Perhaps it’s just a case of mass hysteria that we think it goes on all of the time around the world.

Full fledged depression set in and I went to another Dr Office to pickup a stronger prescription and to take a look at the magazines there.

Here I digress: The obvious benefit of stealing magazines from waiting rooms is the cost savings.

Less obvious benefits are that this old “news” can be evaluated in light of subsequent new “news” or reformed “news” or more recently fictionalized “news”. After the passage of “time”, when we enter the historical phase of the “news”, which is supposedly the unemotional consideration of the surviving story (aka history), by non partisans, usually with a PhD for street cred.

Here I return: The glimpse of euphoria came when I read much of this Forbes article about a scientific breakthrough that may be a crucial part of a future solution to secure, local, clean energy, replicating photosynthesis. In my own way, I said a little prayer. For the future.

Then I remembered that no matter what we want or pray for, oil and coal are our only real bridge to the unknown future. The blues returned.

At some point, I remembered something a good friend told me a few years ago: “We should save some of this oil for our kids’ kids because we are going to run out of it.” Full fledged depression was again looming.

So I picked up the phone to see if my doctor had any new magazines in yet, while my mind relentlessly force rotated two thoughts in my head:

“Free Our Oil” and

my own dread that we may never run out of oil.

POSTSCRIPT: I throw the prescriptions away and keep the magazines. My insurance pays for the doctor. Cheap hypotainment if I walk to the Dr. BTW, if you have not read this Onion article about Al Gore, you will be glad once that is rectified.

The Russian Bear Is Back In A Big Way With New Attack Submarines

Spending oil money on submarinesRussia Building New Offensive Nuke Armed Underwater Boats

The construction of new-generation nuclear-powered ballistic missile and attack submarines is a top priority for the Russian Navy’s development, the Navy commander said on Friday according to the Russian Information Agency Novosti

According to a new doctrine for the development of the armed forces, Russia will completely modernize the naval component of its nuclear triad by 2016.

Fourth-generation Borey-class nuclear-powered submarines armed with Bulava missiles would form the core of Russia’s fleet of modern strategic submarines.

The first submarine in the series, Yury Dolgoruky was built at the Sevmash plant in the northern Arkhangelsk Region and will soon join the Russian Navy. It will be equipped with 16 Bulava (SS-NX-30) ballistic missiles, which can carry up to ten nuclear warheads, and have a range of 8,000 kilometers (about 5,000 miles).

Two other Borey-class nuclear submarines, the Alexander Nevsky and the Vladimir Monomakh, are currently under construction at the Sevmash plant.

In 2009, the Russian Navy will receive the first nuclear-powered attack submarine of the Project 885 Yasen (Graney) class, named Severodvinsk.

Russia is also building a new series of diesel-electric submarines.

Gimme Back My Whales Tail.

Free for a little while, but costly nowThey call California the granola state because when you toss out all the fruits and nuts all you have left are the flakes, and it has a lot of flakes - who are now arguing about its official whale’s tail.

Fourteen years ago, world-renowned marine muralist Wyland - just one name - gave his okay for CALIFORNIA officials to use one of his iconic images of a whale’s tail for one of the state’s many specialty license plates. But that “handshake deal” may be kaput. As the Los Angeles Times reports, Wyland recently told the state Coastal Commission that he now wants 20 percent of the state’s annual $3.7 million in profits from the plates to fund his nonprofit ocean conservation foundation. The state called the demand “outrageous” and said no dice, so Wyland says he is reclaiming the image. Fine, says Assemblyman Jared Huffman, and he’s looking for a new license plate artist.

Back Room Deals Are Now Partially Televised

Cut the Deal.....The Democratic Party’s Rules Committee is still out for lunch break at 4:30PM. No wonder we can no longer afford our government.

Could it be they are making back room deals? I sure hope so.

Chris Matthews, before musing that it is a rather late lunch, is publicly wondering, more hoping, if Hillary is going to make a Soft Concession before the final primaries on June 3, as well as the unique one if Puerto Rico on June 1, as graciously as Nixon once did.

Al Gore once said it was not about Howard Dean. Howard Dean today says this is not about “our candidates” it is about our country, about restoring our reputation”. That seems to be about the failed policies of George Bush the Democratic candidates hope to pin on John McCain, but does it also presage that he thinks Obama or Hillary is better capable of doing that? Hint, if so, it is not Hillary he believes in.
