The founder of an energy company that benefited from deals involving hundreds of millions in “stimulus” money made the maximum donation allowable to President Obama’s inauguration.

Peter L. Corsell, founder of GridPoint Inc., contributed $50,000 to the inauguration.

Corsell served as GridPoint’s chief executive officer from the company’s inception until transitioning to the position of non-executive chairman in October 2010.

Yesterday, WND broke the story that an Obama adviser who played a key role in developing the energy provisions of the so-called stimulus bill serves on the boards of GridPoint as well as several other companies that recently received government funds, including stimulus money.

TJ Glauthier served on Obama’s 2008 White House Transition Team. He is widely credited with helping to craft the energy provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, also known as the “stimulus.”

In addition to serving on the boards of major energy companies, Glauthier previously held two presidential appointments during the Clinton administration.

He was the Energy Department’s deputy secretary and chief operating officer, the second-highest ranking official.

Earlier, he served in the White House for five years as the associate director for natural resources, energy and science in the Office of Management and Budget.

Glauthier is tied to several energy companies that benefited from the stimulus bill he helped to craft.

One such company investigated by WND is GridPoint Inc., where he was appointed to the board in March 2008. GridPoint provides utilities with software solutions for electrical grid management and electric power demand and supply balancing.

The stimulus provides $4.5 billion for so-called smart grid projects. GridPoint has benefited from scores of smart grid deals funded by the stimulus bill.

The company partnered with the Electric Transportation Engineering Corporation (eTec), Nissan, the Idaho National Laboratory and others in a project to deploy electric vehicles (EVs) and their charging infrastructure in five states. The Energy Department had awarded eTec almost $100 million in stimulus funds to support the project.

GridPoint’s role in the eTec project was to supply smart charging and data logging capability to utilities located in strategic markets of eTec’s program in Arizona, California, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington.

GridPoint also benefited from stimulus funds when it recently provided home energy management, load management and electric vehicle management software solutions for a KCP&L’s Green Impact Zone SmartGrid Demonstration in Kansas City, Mo. The project was the recipient of stimulus funding.

Additionally, GridPoint helped the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, or SMUD, manage power from its customers’ rooftop solar panels.

The Arlington, Va.-based company had landed a contract to help the Sacramento, Calif.-based municipal utility manage renewable power integration, energy storage and home energy management systems. SMUD had won $127.5 million in stimulus funds from the Department of Energy to carry out the project, which also includes deploying 600,000 smart meters in its service territory.

Also, in early 2009, the Energy Department awarded Argonne National Laboratory nearly $2.7 million in stimulus funding for three solar-energy related research projects. In addition, Argonne reportedly shared another $5 million in stimulus funding for projects with GridPoint and other companies and the University of Illinois Sustainable Technology Center.

Besides benefiting from stimulus grants, GridPoint last year won a $28 million contract with the United States Postal Service to install energy management systems in selected post office locations across the U.S.

Glauthier, meanwhile, also had come under fire after Fox News reported the U.S. Navy has purchased 450,000 gallons of biofuel for about $16 a gallon, or about four times the price of its standard marine fuel, JP-5, which has been going for under $4 a gallon.

And HotAir.com reported last week that Glauthier is a “strategic adviser” to Solazyme, the California company that is selling a portion of the biofuel to the Navy.

HotAir noted Solazyme received a $21.8 million grant from the 2009 stimulus package.

Also, writing at BigGovernment.com two weeks ago, Whitney Pitcher found that prior to serving as adviser to Solazyme and after his time as part of Obama’s transition team, Glauthier served on the advisory board of SunRun, a solar financing company.

In October of 2010, just a few short months after Glauthier joined SunRun’s advisory board, SunRun secured a $6.73 million grant from a Treasury Department stimulus program. The company was the ninth largest recipient of such programs through December 2010.

Israel’s military has announced its plans to form a long-range strike command.

The military said the new unit would be commanded by a major general and help direct operations far from Israel’s borders.

The commander was identified as Shai Avital, who headed the Army’s elite General
Reconnaissance Unit and returned to the military after an absence of nine years. Avital has been regarded as close to Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

 ”The primary task of the corps will be to extend joint Israel Defense Forces operations into the strategic depth,” the military said.

On Dec. 15, the military announced the unit, meant to combine naval, air and ground assets for long-range missions. Officials said the unit, meant to resemble the U.S. Special Operation Command, would help plan and coordinate interservice operations meant to counter Iran, Hizbullah, weapons smuggling to Lebanon as well as the Gaza Strip.

The announcement was the latest in an Israeli effort to project deterrence toward Iran and Syria. So far, most of the efforts by Israel’s military to prepare for an attack on Iran were limited to the Air Force, with a fleet of long-range F-15 and F-16I fighter-jets.

 Officials said the new unit, called Deep Corps, has been the subject of discussion for months. They said Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz approved a study that envisioned the merger of special forces capabilities - but not personnel - into one unit.

 The corps was meant to contain no more than 100 members and would be responsible for operations more than 100 kilometers from Israel. The military already has a unit that specializes in long-range ground operations commanded by Brig. Gen. Gil Tamir. But the unit, established in the 1980s, has been rarely used in recent years.

 ”This [new unit] would be small and focus mostly on coordinating the various elite units,” an official said.

The announcement puts on notice enemies like Iran who recently bragged about burying its nuclear sites making them invulnerable to air attacks. Some say it was this unit or another that blew up and facility near Teheran two weeks ago.

Four New York state high school boys were suspended because they lead fellow ssudents in prayer. Worse other students followed them upsetting school officials who called their prayers upsetting and disruptive. The students prayed in a hallway between classes.The boys admit it was more a prank than prayer in honor of Bronco Quaterback Tebow.

 The boys were each suspended from school for a day by the Riverview school authorities to the dismay of other students, parents, townspeople and Americans nationwide.

The boys took their cue from Denver Bronco quarterback Tim Tebow who has the temerity to pray after  each touchtown he scores to the dislike of humanist and atheist that he dare to show his faith in Christ and be thankful for the guiding hand he so fervently believs in.

 When I played high school football the entire team and coaches knelt on the sidelines before the whole stadium crowd al of whom stood and bowed their headsin prayer not  asking for victory but a safe contest. There was even a team Chaplain.

 An AP poll finds 59% of independents now disapprove of the job Obama is doing - a new low. The young and even blacks are leaving Obama in droves. Mitt Romney now leads Obama in head-to-head national polling.

The American people may not be aware of is that the government, under existing forfeiture laws, is already blocking access to domestic websites in the name of protecting copyright.  And in some cases they are being seized prior to any trial or even a hearing taking place.

 That’s what happened to www.dajaz1.com, a popular music blog that was seized by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency for over a year, only to be returned just this month without any criminal charges being filed.  ICE had to admit there was never any probable cause for the seizure in the first place.

And despite turning off the website for over a year, www.dajaz1.com has not received any compensation as a result, even though the Fifth Amendment provides for such payment.

The allegation apparently originated from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) itself, even though it turned out in the end that the allegedly infringing material had, the website says, been pre-released by music artists and record labels themselves.

 Now, Congress wants to take this show on the road, and force search engines, social networks, file-sharing sites, and other Internet service providers to block access to sites overseas that it says would otherwise qualify for seizure under existing domestic forfeiture laws.  Again, without any trial, a hearing, or even any notice.

 The fear, and it is not just paranoia. Is that websites and information seen as unfavorable by politicians will be shutdown with recourse for political pusposs. That could include limiting access to international news outlets and may be viewed as unfavorable.

 There is a popular hoax that the national motto “In God We Trust” was intentionally omitted from the new one dollar coin minted since 2007, Actually it is inscribed on each coin’s edge. About 50,000 were accidentally minted without the motto and now are numismatic curiosities.

 War tensions around Syria rose alarmingly Thursday night, Dec. 15, when Turkey’s top military council convened “to review the armed forces’ preparedness for war” in response to the deployment of 21 Syrian missiles, five of them Scud D with chemical warheads, on their border, Syrian armored units were rushed to the Turkish frontier and also to the Jordanian border opposite the US special operations units moved in from Iraq. The IDF has reconstituted its special command for operations behind enemy lines.

 The Assad government also rushed armored units in two directions - to the Turkish frontier and also to the Jordanian border opposite the US special operations units from Iraq newly deployed to defend Jordan against a Syrian attack, asreported on Dec. 13

Sources report that 21 Syrian missile launchers, five of them Scud D with chemical warheads, are deployed in northern Syria opposite the Turkish Hatai (Alexandretta) district. They were moved up in broad daylight to make sure Western spy satellites and Turkish intelligence surveillance saw them. More are on the way.

In Israel, the IDF announced it was reconstituting the special command for operations behind enemy lines under the command of Brig. Gen. Shay Avital.

Before the military council convened in Ankara, Turkey placed its border contingents, air force and navy on war preparedness.

The official statement said the high military council had “assessed Turkish army needs and necessary steps to address these requirements…”

The Turkish press repeated a statement by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in an interview two weeks ago that Turkey does not want to consider a military option for intervention in neighboring Syria as Damascus cracks down on popular protest, but it is ready for any scenario.

The Turkish army has prepared operational plans for seizing parts of northern Syria.

 Although an upcoming Iranian naval exercise underscores the threat Iran poses to the vital Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s immediate maritime strategy is actually more nuanced and intended to deter a US attack on its nuclear program by enhancing its ability to wage an asymmetric “guerrilla” campaign against US maritime interests in the Gulf.

In the event of a conflict with the United States, Iran would most likely seek to control the sea lines of communication in the Gulf, rather than shut them off completely. However, this naval exercise demonstrates the growing strength of the Iranian navy and how Iran’s decade-long strategy of maritime “self-sufficiency” is finally beginning to pay dividends.

Iran dare not take the US Navy on head-to-head or its entire Navy would be destroyed in less than a week and its air forces erased from the sky.

A nationwide survey of  875 non profit organization’s charitable giving for 2011 found that as of last Fall 59% of organizations report giving has been either down or stable in 2011 meaning 4 of ten have had an increase. Two thirds of organizations report demand for services have increased. Smaller organizations have been hardest hit including: faith based alternatives to public schools; goy’s and girl’s clubs; scout councils, and animal rescue and adoption services are among the hardest hit. 49% report projectinmg bigged budgets in 2012.

 Nuclear energy accounts for 77% of France’s electricity, 52% of Sweden’s, and 22% of the United States. Radiation from nuclear plants has not caused a single known death worldwide, except at the Chernobyl plant in the Ukraine. The known death toll from the Chernobyl accident is less than 50. That type reactor is too unsafe to be built in the US and most other countries.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is, at last, proposing regulations to disallow broadcasters from booming commercial messages at greater volume than regular programming. For decades broadcasters and advertisers have denied the practice that anyone wit a radio or TV has long noticed.

What began as an attempt to restrain foreign piracy on the Internet has morphed into a domestic “kill switch” on First Amendment freedom in the fastest-growing corner of the marketplace of ideas - the internet. Many fear an Obama takeover of the internet to help his reelection by shutting down descent at a critical time claiminf nationa security.

Proposed federal legislation purporting to protect online intellectual property would also impose sweeping new government mandates on internet service providers — a positively Orwellian power grab that would permit the U.S. Justice Department to shut down any internet site it doesn’t like (and cut off its sources of income) on nothing more than a whim.

Under the so-called “Stop Online Piracy Act” (SOPA) the federal government — which is prohibited constitutionally from abridging free speech or depriving its citizens of their property without due process — would engage in both practices on an unprecedented scale. And in establishing the precursor to a taxpayer-funded “thought police,” it would dramatically curtail technology investment and innovation – wreaking havoc on our economy.

SOPA is the equivalent of curing a headache with a guillotine. It may stop piracy, but it would shut down our economy and unconstitutionally erode our most basic freedoms in the process.

The NTSB (National Traffic Safety Board) is proposing a nationwide ban of the use of all personal electronic devices while driving. It claims over 3,000 died and 500,000 were injured last year due to distracted driving Even hands free devices would be banned. There are those who would ban car radios and CD players too some say arguing while driving or even fighting with children must be banned.

What few Americans or for that matter anyone anywhere has discovered is that some of the units of US troops leaving Iraq have been diverted to positions in Jordan opposite a massive Syrian tank concentration building up across the kingdom’s northern border, The incoming US contingents are housed at the King Hussein Air Base of al-Mafraq, a smidge over 6 miles from the Syrian border. They are the first US boots to hit the ground directly opposite Assad’s army brought there by Bashar Assad’s threat to set the Middle East on fire if the pressure against him persists.

Syria’s other neighbors have taken precautions against this contingency but this is the first time US boots have hit the ground directly opposite Assad’s army.

The incoming US contingents are disclosed by sources as having been housed at the King Hussein Air Base of al-Mafraq, 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the Syrian border. US troops were sighted Monday, Dec. 12, building surveillance towers and army posts in the Jordanian villages of Albaej, Zubaydiah and al-Nahdah al-Houshah as well as near the Sarham dam of the Yarmoukh River which runs down the international border between Syria and Jordan.

Three months ago, the Syrian ruler cautioned Jordan’s King Abdullah II to stop granting asylum to Syrian military deserters and allowing his country to serve as a conduit for pumping arms to the opposition.

The king was not deterred by this threat. Seen from Damascus, Jordan would be easier to take on militarily that either Turkey or Israel. Saturday, Dec. 12, Jordanian surveillance units confirmed that Syrian armored units were gathering opposite the Jordanian town of Bura Al Hariri.

Iraqi sources report that the American units came from the big Iraqi Ain al-Assad air base in the western province of Al Anbar opposite the Jordanian border. This base is in the process of evacuation as the US military drawdown in Iraq approaches completion. Most of the troops are flown to US bases in the Persian Gulf and Europe.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, when he met Obama at the White House last Monday, approved the transfer of American contingents from Iraq to Jordan across their common border. Obama was therefore able to state after their talks: “We share the view that when the Syrian people are being killed or are unable to express themselves that’s a problem. There’s no disagreement there.”

By this comment, the White House sought to stress that the Baghdad government is not letting Tehran twist its arms on the Syrian question.

In October King Abdullah II of Jordan’s Heshimite monarch held secret talks with Obama in Washington DC aimed at breaking a deadlock in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, and at the same time negotiated the repositioning of US troops to Jordan’s –Syrian border. A move that could results in a massive tank battle pitting U. S. arms against Russian and Chinese arms supplied to Assad through Iran.

The redeployment is a part of an anti-Assad ouster strategy. Assad promises to fight on from the Alawite Mountains in northwestern Syria should the current conflict descend intio all out civil war. This is the only densely forested region along Syria’s Mediterranean coast rsaid to be easy to defend and excellent to stage raids and guerilla warfare attacks.

Clearly Obama disagrees with Israel on the Palestinian issue and if he false steps as he did in Egypt the whole region could erupt triggering a blockade of Persian Gulf oil ruining what’s left of western economies plunging half the world into a deep depression and civil revolutions. Some believe that’s Obama’s desire.

So far the U. S. mainstream media has ignored the repositioning not even mentioning it while hysterically cheering the U. S. withdrawal from Iraq as Obama keeping his promise.

We can only see about 5% of the matter in the Universe. The rest is made up of invisible matter (called Dark Matter) and a mysterious form of energy known as Dark Energy. Both are undefined and mysterious theories.

The Higgs boson —the so-called God particle — has almost been discovered, scientists announced Tuesday. How one almost discovers a thing is just the latest twist in this mind-boggling science story.Ostensively the boson is the fundamental building block of the universe and consequently the first particle God created upon which everything is built – until something slse is theorized; imagines if you like.

No story has been more of a head-scratcher than that of the Higgs boson, the name for a theoretical particle that physicists at CERN said they have come closer to discovering.

A scientific report, “Confirmation of the Higgs boson would solve the mystery of why matter has the property that physicists call mass — the resistance to being shoved around. If the Higgs is declared non-existent, on the other hand, there would be a gaping hole in physicists’ explanation of nature’s deepest structure.”

Scientists have speculated about the particle’s existence since theorist Peter Higgs first predicted its existence in 1964, but proof has been a long time coming. The latest announcement offered hope to scientists at the announcement — who broke out into a loud and sustained applause — but the physicists working on the project said no definite conclusions could be drawn yet.

String theory is a work in progress, so trying to pin down exactly what the science is, or what its fundamental elements are, can be tricky. The key string theory features include:

· All objects in our universe are composed of vibrating filaments (strings) and membranes (branes) of energy.

· String theory attempts to reconcile general relativity (gravity) with quantum physics.

· A new connection (called supersymmetry) exists between two fundamentally different types of particles, bosons and fermions (named fo Enrico Fermi..

· Several extra (usually unobservable) dimensions to the universe must exist.

· There are also other possible string theory features, depending on what theories prove to have merit in the future. Possibilities include:

o A landscape of string theory solutions, allowing for possible parallel universes a dream of furuist scientists.

o The holographic principle, which states how information in a space can relate to information on the surface of that space.

o The anthropic principle, which states that scientists can use the fact that humanity exists as an explanation for certain physical properties of our universe.

o Our universe, some say, could be “stuck” on a brane, allowing for new interpretations of string theory.

o Other principles or features, waiting to be discovered.

Herb Titus is a well known and respected Constitutional scholar. He is raising questions about Obama’s birth. He says the more important question is whether or not he is a natural born citizen because he was born in Hawaii. The conventional wisdom is, that if he could produce a birth certificate showing that he was born in Hawaii, that would make him a natural born citizen. That’s not true says Titus. That only makes him a citizen by birth.

Most people think that’s a definition of a natural born citizen, but people forget that that was put into the Constitution not for the purpose of defining what a natural born citizen is as it applies to the President of the United States, but it was placed into the Constitution for the specific purpose of declaring that people who were part of the newly freed slave class were citizens of the United States and of the state in which they resided because the United States Supreme Court had ruled in the Dred Scott case that a person who had been brought over to the United States against his will could never become a citizen of the United States much less a citizen of the state. So the place of birth that gives rise to citizenship by birth was addressed to the question of what to do with this entirely new group of people who would otherwise be stateless because they couldn’t under the Dred Scott rule become a citizen having been born in the United States.

Titus says the issue should be finally decided by SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States). If SCOTUS would decide against Obama many profound issues would be raised surrounding an illegitimate Presidency.

A group of college football coaches made a number of changes to the rules of the game in 1906 to decrease the incidence of serious injuries. Among these rules was the legalization of the forward pass. Initially, a forward pass could not be made within five yards of the center. To help officials keep track of this distance, the coaches specified that football fields have vertical and horizontal lines five yards apart. A new fundraising email from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign has “revived speculation” that she is still interested in winning the White House, according to Paul Bedard of U.S. News & World Report.

“While her campaign has in the past dispatched fundraising emails in a bid to finish paying her 2008 campaign debt, the timing of the latest blast raised some eyebrows,” Bedard writes in his Washington Whispers column.

The mail comes amid denials from the Obama administration that the president is considering replacing Vice President Joe Biden with Clinton on the 2012 ticket, Bedard observes.

It also comes as a new poll by Washington Whispers shows Hillary as the clear favorite of voters seeking a third-party candidate. In the survey, 39 percent of respondents chose Clinton as their choice for an independent candidate, well ahead of Mike Huckabee at 20 percent.

The attacks were to be directed against sensitive U.S. national security facilities, along with nuclear power plants and New York’s Kennedy Airport.

The documentary also features video footage taken by extremists linked to Iran, and an interview with an undercover journalist who infiltrated clandestine military training camps in Venezuela.

A Connecticut dad has accused an industry giant in education, Scholastic, of delivering Occupy Wall Street propaganda to his 4th grade daughter in her school classroom.

The issue arose over the Scholastic News handout given to students and dated Dec. 5 and Dec. 12:

It favorably describes the Occupy Wall Street movement, which has been tied to professional agitators linked to groups funded by billionaire radical George Soros.

It’s also been accused of being anti-Semitic and to have been given support from Islamic groups that are strong supporters of the so-called Free Gaza Movement.

Scholastic, which declined to respond to a WND request for comment, however, said the Occupy protesters “started with about 1,000 protesters,” who mostly were “college students or recent graduates without jobs.”

The company’s website says it is pledged “to uphold the basic freedoms of all individuals” and it is opposed “to any system of government or society that denies these freedoms.”

It continues, “Good citizens may honestly differ on important public questions. We believe that all sides of the issues of our times should be fairly discussed – with deep respect for facts and logical thinking – in classroom magazines, books…”

But Scholastic’s report about Occupy said “most of their complaints are about today’s tough economic times and who should be blamed for them.” And the report said “protesters say that they make up the other 99 percent. They argue that big companies are making too much money as millions of Americans have lost their jobs or even their homes.”

It doesn’t mention the rampant crime that has been documented at various Occupy protest sites, the filthy conditions left behind by some protest groups, the violence and the incidents of intimidation against even children, as has been reported nor the millions of dollars in cost billed to taxpayers.

The father, Edward, describes his alarm from his perspective as a conservative independent.

But he said he grew up in the old Soviet Union, and recalls when an official media there would print the “news,” from only one perspective.

“When I see something like this it just boggles my mind,” he said.

He recalled pictures of government officials posted all over and his grandfather’s fear that someone would discover he was listening to Voice of America.

“I’ve seen it,” Edward says. “I don’t want to go that way again. I left the Soviet Union to come to the U.S. and then I’m seeing the Occupy Wall Street anti-Semitism. Where do I go from here?”

He said the least Scholastic should have done was to offer a fair explanation that included both sides of the arguments.

Edward’s comment to Scholastic was: “I grew up in Soviet Union and seeing your propaganda about Occupy Wall Street brings back my memories. I’m neither Republican or Democrat but I would rather see my kids hear about both sides.”

Jenifer, responding for the company, said, “I am happy to forward on your concern about providing both Democrat and Republican views.”

Several years ago the Junior Scholastic “news magazine” promoted “madrassa” school life for American children who are Muslims, much to the outrage of some parents.

“Remember way back in grade school and getting Junior Scholastic magazine in school? Well here is an example of what JS has devolved into. Force-feeding the barbaric propaganda of Islamic madrassas down the throats of my 7th and 4th graders. Disgusting,” a father wrote about the issue.

Scholastic said at that time that there are few topics the company will not cover if they are brought up in classrooms.

That particular story, “Inside a Madrasa, U.S. kids talk about their daily lives at an Islamic school in Pakistan,” was written by Cassandra Nelson in view of “helping students learn about the world they live in. That world does include religion and a variety of cultures,” a company official reported.

Sources also report now are taking part in the development and editing processes for textbooks in U.S. public schools, how some schools have required students to “become Muslim” and memorize the “Five Pillars of Islam” during their public school coursework, and how a man once arrested as a terror suspect for allegedly trying to transport $340,000 from a group tied to Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi helped write the “Religious Expression in Public Schools” guidelines issued by President Clinton during his tenure in office.

The American Textbook Council found that textbooks for children in U.S. public schools these days reflect “the interplay of determined Islamic political activists, textbook editors, and multiculturally minded social studies curriculum planners.”

It has gone so far that correcting the situation now becomes a problem, because “educational publishers and educational organizations have bought into claims propounded by Islamists – and have themselves become agents of misinformation.”

That comes from Gilbert T. Sewall, who wrote the organization’s report on Islam and textbooks. And Middle East Forum director Daniel Pipes even has repeatedly expressed concern about the “privileging of Islam in the United States” and warns the stakes go well beyond 7th grade texts. His opinion of Houghton Mifflin’s “Across the Centuries”? Full of “apologetics.”

Sewall said his study showed world history textbooks “hold Islam and other non-Western civilizations to different standards than those that apply to the West” even while “Islamic pressure groups and their allies seek to suppress the critical analysis of Islam inside and outside classrooms.

“Textbook editors seem not to recognize that a school-related Islamic agenda in the U.S. uses multiculturalism as a device to guarantee a purely favorable and uncritical view of all things Muslim. At extremes, the report suggested, multiculturalism contributes to a form of peaceable cultural jihad meant to discredit or ‘problematize’ European civilization in favor of non-Western cultures,” he wrote.

This reminiscent of the 1930s when communist tried to influence pro communism idea in public school text books and to insert sympathetic teachers into public schools.

A new study by the Public Policy Institute of California, a non-partisan think tank, confirmed that during the 2007-09 recession, every income bracket in California lost income faster than the equivalent brackets in the rest of the United States. Even more disturbing, all but the top 25 percent of earners now make less than equivalent income classes in all other states.

Once known as a jobs magnet for its sunny climate, world-class universities and burgeoning high-tech opportunities, California has been transformed into a toxic anti-business state that works hard at drive businesses away.

From 2007, when the recession began, through 2009, family incomes across all income classes dropped by more than 5 percent.  But instead of going up in the recovery, they continued to plummet by another 6 percent in 2010.

The declines weren’t spread evenly across the income classes.  Families with incomes in the top 10 percent saw their family incomes decline 5 percent. But the bottom 10 percent of California’s poorest families saw their incomes plummet by 21 percent.

In surveys, business executives regularly call California one of the country’s most toxic business environments and one of the least likely places to open or expand a new company.  Many firms still headquartered in California consciously refuse to expand their workforce. Brutalized by the bursting of the housing bubble and currently suffering an unemployment rate of 11.7 percent, almost 3 percentage points above the national average, California family incomes continue to rapidly lose ground.

Jerry Brown when he first was elected back in 1974. saw government’s job as restraining growth, limiting development and expanding environmental regulations.  In 1977, Time Magazine declared “the California of the 60s, a mystical land of abundance and affluence, vanished sometime in the 70s.” Arnold Schwarznegger shoveled dirt into California’s grave was an abject failure as Governor.

A Rio Grande Valley fire station burned to the ground and its equipment destroyed while most of the firefighters where 19 miles away at a Christmas party. Exactly why neighboring department were not alerted or even stationed a crew there is unclear.

On September 9^th two dozen Pearl Harbor survivors average age 91-years attempted to hold a memorial at a military cemetery near the site of the 1941 attackwhere many of their shipmates are buried but were rousted by security people from the CBS TV production crew for Hawaii 50 and forced to move over 300 yards because their praying and hymn singing was disturbing the taping.

The veterans say their memorial service would only run for a few minutes but decided to pray in silence although taps was played in as much as they have decided this 70^th Anniversary would be their last given their collective age and the frail health of the few remaining Pearl Harbor survivors

The self important Hawaii 50 staff and CBS barely mumbled about an unfortunate misunderstanding. CBS has rented part of the cemetery for is crime drama redux. Some complained about the crew tramping all over graves abd who decided to rent hallowed ground.

Some of the requirements became a burde, says, William Muehleib, president of the Pearl Harbors Survivors Association, said after the ceremony He also cited poor health among the group’s 2,700 members, adding that most of the survivors have realized there are other things they’d like to do at their age.

Survivors will be able to attend future commemoration ceremonies on their own. About 3,000 people, including Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and military leaders, attended this year’s December 7^th anniversary at a site overlooking the sunken USS Arizona and the white memorial that straddles the battleship.

Muehleib said there are an estimated 7,000 to 8,000 Pearl Harbor survivors. Local chapters of the group will function as long as they have members and survivors can gather socially, but they will no longer have a formal, national organization.

A female friend of mine told me she just got off the phone with a friend living in North Dakota near the Canadian border.

She (the one in North Dakota) said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling. The temperature is dropping way below zero and the north wind is increasing to near gale force.

Her husband has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stare. She says that if it gets much worse, she may have to let him in.

The other day someone posed a question on this site: “How has a series of formless, anarchic street parties gone viral and spread all over America, all over the world?” The answer really is a simple one. And for what I’m about to explain, let us use the Oakland “occupiers” as an example.

We have had vandals breaking into buildings. Groups and gangs painting graffiti on the property of innocents. Fights, firebombs, and physical threats against reporters in the area reporting on the crimes have taken place in Oakland for quite awhile now. There are many more incidents at other “occupy” locations. Such as the alleged rape by occupiers in Cleveland. The dregs of society have taken over the Oakland protest to the point of one police officer going on record as saying, “..it is a scene akin to the Lord of the Flies.”

An Oakland real estate developer, Phil Tagami, had this to say as he was repairing the windows of his office building – to the tune of $8,000 each. “We were armed and that was a deterrent for keeping them from coming into the building. We basically had a stand-off, you could say, until the police came to move the rioters, the provocateurs, the anarchists.” He had stood in the lobby of his newly renovated $50 million office building with a shotgun.

The rioters, oh sorry, the protesters have encouraged people to take off work and skip school in order to protest the economic inequality in this country. Wouldn’t work and school raise them up in equality? They shut down the Port of Oakland and other businesses that caused the city to lose millions of dollars, dollars which also affected their lives.

Oakland Music Director, Michael Fried, said, “this is really a betrayal of the spirit of social change and revolution in the United States.”

And a resident, Angel Levy, who has been caught up in the fray had this to say. “We are about peace. We are about resolving issues. We are not about terrorism.”

There have been numerous reports of the same by police, businessmen, residents, and onlookers all across the country. But like the writer says, “they don’t seem to have a plan, nobody knows exactly what they stand for. What’s the point?” Well, there is no point, it’s a feeding frenzy. What do I mean by a feeding frenzy? Well, let me explain.

The predisposition of the intellectually deficient, or the uneducated, is to follow the lead of a demagogue, such as this country’s unctuous leader. One who incites this type of violence by pander and demagoguery. One who has brought more divisiveness and class warfare to this country than any of his predecessors.

What we have when we combine these two things, an inflamed proletariat and an unctuously vitriolic demagogue, is a predisposition, precipitation, and perpetuation of failed and misleading economic plans. This in itself precipitates and perpetrates a cultural economic malady. Based on this premise we can see we have gone from social and economic malaise, to a protracted social and economic malady ¾ witness the “occupy” protesters around the country.

The occupiers are causing turbulence, agitation, and disturbance in a somewhat sane and civil society. And because of the shear volume of this turbulence, it is overwhelmingly more senior than the harmony of the area. Here we have a confusion and ebbing of sanity.

Sanity is reason, insanity is unreason. Reason in greater quantity, confronting the presence of unreason, would cause reason to prevail. However, reason, when present only in a deficient amount, will be overcome by unreason and all will become chaotic and anarchic. Here we have the “occupy” protesters. The purer the reason the more change of environment will take place. Reason attempting to conquer an overwhelmingly chaotic and anarchic environment will become, in itself, chaotic and anarchic.

Unreason, or insanity, applied to the environment will make it into a chaotic and anarchic environment. Both make the environment act and tend towards death. The larger the group of anarchists the greater the contagion of aberration, thus the growth of the unreasonable.

A highly reasonable group can handle their environment better than an unreasonable one. The unreasonable will ruin the environment they dwell in, whereas the reasonable will enhance it. This is why we have defecation, violence and crime in the cities where the occupiers protest. The attraction to these protesters would be the contagion, whereby the larger the insanity the greater command it has over the reasonable.

“Unemployment, 8.6%!” headlines bleated Friday. Now, the truth of the matter is - and Bloomberg News even points out that the only way - it’s a corrupt number. It is a corrupt number.

Folks, the number of people who have quit looking for work in the last few weeks is 315,000. Those are the people have thrown up their hands after 99 weeks or more of being unemployed; and they’ve said, “I’m quitting. I’m not looking.” So they’re not counted. Therefore, the universe of jobs available in the country is down by 315,000. That is the labor force participation rate. The labor force participation rate is a meager 64%. It fell to 64% from 64.2%. So the 0.2% drop equals 315,000 people leaving the workforce.

That means there are 315,000 fewer jobs to have, so the universe of jobs has been steadily shrinking. What was the number of jobs created? It’s 120,000 jobs. It’s 120, 126,000, whatever. That’s in the ballpark. That number of jobs created can lower unemployment rate 0.4%, almost one half of a percent? Creating 120,000 new jobs can do that? That alone tells us how small the labor force participation rate is. That tells us how small the universe of available jobs in the country is, when creating 120,000 - and we still have, don’t forget, over 400,000 applications for unemployment compensation reported yesterday. So just 120,000 new jobs can lower the unemployment rate almost a half a point. That’s not possible without that 315,000 figure, the 315,000 people who have just walked away.

 The way the Bureau calculates unemployment almost guarantees corruption, and assures its “sampling: will be wrong always leaning toward a lower number: here’s how?

A sample of the more than 3,000 counties across the nation is selected. 25% of those over age 16-years are interviewed by phone in the selected counties, asking whether individuals in the home have a job or if they are laid off. Other questions query whether the persons are available for work and the techniques they have used to look for work in the preceding month. These questions are posed because only those individuals which do not have a job, have actively look for work in the past four weeks and who are currently available to work are considered to be unemployed. That information is then compared as a percentage to the number of people in the labor force. It should be noted that the labor force is considered to be all individuals who are age 16 and older who either have a job or who are actively looking for a job. Individuals who do not have a job and who are not actively looking for work are not included in the labor force.

The survey is adjusted or weighted to account for independent population estimates across the entire nation. These adjustments take into account factors such as state of residence, sex, age and race. Despite the adjustments; however, it is important to note that because the survey is not a complete count, the results of the sample cannot be expected to be the same as if a survey of the entire population were taken.

A longtime statistician friend tells me the built in error margin can be as much a five points, meaning 9 could be 14%, and the design appears to be intentional. The system is a clumbsy, costly bureaucrat supporting entrenched system susceptible to political meddling.

It is no surprise then that Taiwan’s military is preparing for a  future war with China by developing electro-magnetic pulse weapons. It’s about the best hedge because if China preemptively used nuclear weapons it would provoke nuclear protections treaties.

EMP devices create the same type of disabling pulse produced by a nuclear weapon, which can neutralize electronic equipment hundreds of miles away.

Taiwan’s Asia-Pacific Defense Magazine last week also disclosed that both China and Taiwan were producing EMP devices.

The Chinese military, according to the report, is researching and developing EMP and other new concept weapons as part of plans to achieve “electromagnetic control” in a conflict.

Taiwan, too, is building non-nuclear pulse weapons and other exotic weapons at the Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology (CSIST) under the code name “Hsuan T’ien Plan,” or Dark Day Plan.

Two types of weapons are being worked on. One simulates the air-burst detonation of a small (1-kiloton yield) nuclear bomb. It would constitute a “weak nuclear explosion electromagnetic pulse bomb.” A second device also uses conventional explosives to generate the pulse. This would be a “non-nuclear explosion electromagnetic pulse bomb,” or an “E-bomb.”

Pulse weapons can produce a shock wave up to 300 kilometers away and cause permanent and irreparable damage to electronic components from overload and short circuiting. It could black out shundred of square miles permanently destroying components requiring weeks and month to get power restored,

“If non-nuclear explosion electromagnetic pulse warheads are deployed to air defense missiles or anti-ship missiles, the missiles need only explode in the vicinity of the target to effectively damage the electronic components on enemy fighter aircraft and ships, causing the fighter aircraft to crash to the ground and neutralizing the ships,” the report said.

“If this non-nuclear explosion electromagnetic pulse ‘bomb’ technology were used in anti-radiation missiles or anti-missile systems, it would be a major transformation in military technology,” the report said.

The United States most likely has EMP weapons in its arsenal, but it’s not clear in what form. Much of the United States’ EMP research has involved high power microwaves (HPMs).

HPM e-bombs aren’t really bombs at all. They’re more like super powerful microwave ovens that can generate a concentrated beam of microwave energy. One possibility is the HPM device would be mounted to a cruise missile, disrupting ground targets from above.

This technology is advanced and expensive and so would be inaccessible to military forces without considerable resources. But that’s only one piece of the e-bomb story. Using inexpensive supplies and rudimentary engineering knowledge, a terrorist organization could easily construct a dangerous e-bomb device.

In late September 2001, Popular Mechanics published an article outlining this possibility. The article focused on flux compression generator bombs (FCGs), which date back to the 1950s. This sort of e-bomb has a fairly simple, potentially inexpensive design,

Here’s the sequence of events when the bomb goes off:

• A switch connects the capacitors to the stator, sending an electrical current through the wires. This generates an intense magnetic field.
• A fuze mechanism ignites the explosive material. The explosion travels as a wave through the middle of the armature cylinder.
• As the explosion makes its way through the cylinder, the cylinder comes in contact with the stator winding. This creates a short circuit, cutting the stator off from its power supply.
• The moving short circuit compresses the magnetic field, generating an intense electromagnetic burst.

Most likely, this type of weapon would affect a relatively small area — nothing on the order of a nuclear EMP attack — but it could do some serious damage.

The consequence is that electronics short out; cars, planes and train stop functioning and the targeted part of the world malfunctions and seizes up. There is little apparent physical damage.

Many believe the U. S. shared the technology with allies years ago. System can be shielded but not seamlessly.

The US Interstate Highway System requires that one mile of motorway in every five has to be straight so that these sections can be used as airstrips in times of war. Western intelligence agencies have determined that Iran sustained a huge blow when a leading nuclear facility was blown to smithereens on Nov. 28.

Western intelligence sources said Iran’s uranium enrichment facility at Isfahan was severely damaged by an explosion. They said the explosion was believed to have destroyed Isfahan’s large conversion center as well as stored uranium.

Iran’s nuclear facility in Isfahan is said to have been badly damaged in a Nov. 28 bombing. Satellite photos show extensive, wide spread damage.

“This has struck terror in the hearts of Iranian nuclear chiefs,” an intelligence source said.

The sources said the explosion was the work of a “sophisticated bombing squad” that penetrated Isfahan’s formidable defenses. Citing analysis of Western satellite imagery, they said the explosion rocked Iran’s largest city with smoke and debris.

This marked the second explosion at a major Iranian weapons facility in less than a month. On Nov. 12, a base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was destroyed in a mysterious explosion, which also killed the head of the nation’s ballistic missile program, Maj. Gen. Hassan Moghaddam. The sources said the explosion was the result of a bombing rather than an accident as IRGC claimed.

Over the last month, Iran has come under intensified sabotage of its strategic facilities. The sources said the bombing of the uranium facility at Isfahan demonstrated that Iran’s maximum-security nuclear and missile centers were vulnerable to attack.

“There are countries that impose economic sanctions and there are countries who act in other ways in dealing with the Iranian nuclear threat,” Israeli Intelligence Affairs Minister Dan Meridor said.

The Teheran regime has not provided a clear explanation of the bombing in Isfahan. At first, Isfahan Gov. Ali Reza Zaker said the explosion stemmed from a military exercise in the city. Hours later, the government denied that an explosion took place.

Israel and the U. S. have indicated they know nothing about the explosions.

The five Sullivan brothers enlisted on January 3, 1942 with the stipulation that they serve together. The Navy had a policy of separating siblings, but this was not strictly enforced. George and Frank had served in the Navy before, but their brothers had not. All five were assigned to the light cruiser USS Juneau. Early in the morning of November 13, 1942, during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, the Juneau was struck by a Japanese torpedo, and while withdrawing was struck again. Its magazine exploded and all five brothers died. Afterward the sole survivor rule was enforced and dramatized in the film “Saving Private Ryan.”

Major US-Israel differences surfaced suddenly Thursday, Dec. 1, over the timing and circumstances of an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, when Gen. Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint US Chiefs of Staff, said: “I don’t know whether Israel would alert the United States ahead of time if it decided to take military action against Iran.” Three hours later, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak maintained US policy would enable Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon without the possibility of attacking it. Meanwhile, facilities are being hidden underground.

In an interview, General Dempsey went on to admit a range of differences between the US and Israel on two key issues: The first related to their expectations from the sanctions and the diplomatic moves being taken by the Obama administration, “with the stated intent not to take any options off the table” - language that leaves open the possibility of future military action.

“I am not sure that the Israelis share our outlook” on this matter, said the American general.

The second issue on which the Americans and Israelis are divided is their perspective on the future course of events relating to the Iranian nuclear program and the Middle East:  ”And … because to them this (a nuclear-armed Iran) is an existential threat I think probably that it’s fair to say that our expectations are different right now,” said Gen. Dempsey.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will become the fifth Republican presidential hopeful to visit Donald Trump, according to CNN.

Gingrich, who is surging in the polls and sparring head-on with front-runner Mitt Romney, will meet the business mogul Monday at the Trump Tower in New York.

“I can confirm that Mr. Trump and Mr. Gingrich are meeting on Monday,” spokesman Michael Cohen told CNN. “I suspect, like the other Republican candidates, Newt will seek Mr. Trump’s advice and endorsement.”

Trump will moderate a GOP debate on 12-27.

Nearly every other GOP Presidential hopeful has already genuflected to the hair piece.

An advertising campaign encouraging shoppers to “Buy American” has been banned in Seattle for being too political.

King County, which includes Seattle, rejected local nonprofit organization TAP America’s attempt to run the ads on the sides of buses, citing county policy against ads expressing a view on “matters of public debate about political, religious or social issues,” the Seattle Times reported.

The rejected ads read: “December is Buy American Month. Shop Locally. Join Seattle’s TAPamerica.org.”

TAP America - which stands for “Tolerance, Americanism, Patriotism” - had sought to place the ads starting this week, concentrating on bus routes that run through downtown Seattle shopping districts. Under intense pressure due to media opponents have relented and the ads will appear.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has surged to the largest national lead held by any candidate so far in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters finds Gingrich on top with 38% of the vote. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is a distant second at 17%. No other candidate reaches double-digits.

Rasmussen defends the poll results saying they are replicable.

In mid-November Obama had a 12% lead over Gingrich but by monthend Newt was 2% ahead according to a compilation of all polls over the course of the month,

Islamist states in the Middle East are expanding their presence in the Mediterranean, according to the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies. The center identified Egypt, Libya, Lebanon and Turkey as having all been dominated by anti-Western Islamic movements.

“A review of the political dynamics in the states on the shores of the eastern Mediterranean generates great concern about the ability of the West to continue enjoying unrestricted access to this area,” said the report, “The Threats in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.”

Authored by center director Efraim Inbar, the report warned that Israel could be harmed by the expanding Islamist presence in the Mediterranean. He said Israel and Greece are the only pro-Western navies in the region.

Egypt, now ruled by radical Islamicist was cited as a key concern in the Mediterranean because under Muslim Brotherhood rule, it could block access to the Suez Canal while providing services to Iran.

“Significantly, Egypt has already opened the Suez Canal to military vessels belonging to the Islamic republic of Iran,” the report said. “This enhances the ability of radical Iran to supply its Mediterranean allies, such as the current regime in Syria, Hizbullah in Lebanon, and Hamas in Gaza. Moreover, it has enhanced Iranian access to Muslim states in the Balkans, namely Albania, Bosnia and Kosovo, thereby increasing its influence in that part of the Mediterranean.”

The report said Islamic militias could use makeshift ports in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula to hamper pro-Western naval operations. Inbar said the Sinai could become an Islamic no-man’s land similar to Somalia, and threaten merchant ships to and from the Suez Canal.

Turkey is also seen as a danger to Israeli and Western shipping in the Mediterranean. Turkey, a key supporter of Hamas, is threatening to use its navy against both Israel and the Republic of Cyprus.

Turkey “has over the past few years shifted away from a pro-Western foreign policy, instead adopting a radical stance on many issues,” the report said. “Moreover, Turkey has displayed huge ambitions for leadership in the Middle East, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Balkans and the eastern Mediterranean. A combination of Turkish nationalism, neo-Ottoman nostalgia and Islamic-Jihadist impulses has pushed Turkey into an aggressive stance on several regional issues.”

Inbar expects the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip to try to establish a naval presence in the eastern Mediterranean. The Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah in Lebanon has also been building a naval force in the region.

“Hizbullah has already laid claim to some of the huge Israeli-found gas fields in the sea that could diminish Europe’s energy dependence on Russia and Turkey,” the report said.

Boeing;s  co-production in Japan would be contingent upon Japan Air Self-Defense Forces choosing the jet to replace its aging F-4 fleet, according to Boeing Vice President James Armington, who spoke in Tokyo.

The F-18 is less capable than the new F-35, which is considered an advanced fifth-generation fighter.

In addition to the F-18, Japan is also looking at the Eurofighter Typhoon and the F-35. A decision is expected by the end of the year.

Japan is building up its military forces amid concerns over China’s growing military power,  and Obama’s Rodney King-like foreign policy that has Asian and Middle Eastern allies amid growing angst.

Moscow has delivered the first 36 P-800 Yakhont missiles to the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad as part of the Russian-origin Bastion coastal defense system.

 The Yakhont cruise missile is a highly accurate Russian weapon with a 300-kilometer  (186 miles) range, capable of carrying a warhead of up to 200 kilograms (440 poungs)..

“The Yakhont supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles have been delivered to Syria,” a military source said.

The sources did not provide details of the Yakhont delivery, including date or size. Syria was said to have ordered 72 P-800s, with a range of 300 kilometers.

The Kremlin has maintained that it would not bow to pressure to cancel the Yakhont deal, reported to be worth $300 million and signed in 2007. These missiles will defend the entire Syrian coastline against attacks,

The Muslim Brotherhood turned a prominent Cairo mosque into the site of a hateful anti-Israel rally in Egypt Friday, with an estimate of thousands of participants chanting “Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv, judgement day has come” and vowing “one day we shall kill all the Jews.”

Stocks closed in negative territory in thin, shortened trading Friday as investors were reluctant to go long ahead of the weekend and amid ongoing worries over the euro zone.

There are continuing signs that Israel is preparing to deal a military strike against Iran, an action that Washington fears might be the first step in a new regional conflict that would embroil the United States.

Israel and the U.S. agree on intelligence assessments that Iran has the technical capability to produce material for a nuclear bomb in a relatively short period of time.

That assessment is what has raised the stake for the Israelis, who believe that the time is short for them to take military action if they hope to put off the Iranian nuclear program for two or three years. The Israelis, however, do not believe that military action would permanently cripple Teheran’s program.

The key concern for U.S. officials is that Iran is prepared to conduct attacks on U.S. forces in the region, most likely through conventional missile strikes, if a conflict breaks out after a military strike.

“This will not be like Syria,” said one official, referring to the surgical Israeli air strike at al Kabir, the nuclear facility that was being built with North Korean assistance.

There are no signs of an imminent Israeli attack on Iran and Obama has pressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to hold off on any strikes. Netanyahu says Israel can’t risk persuasion and sanctions failing and must protect itself.

However, in the coming months, as U.S. troops exit Iraq, Israel will have more freedom of action to overfly Iraq enroute to an Iranian strike.

Another possibility, say U.S. officials, is that recent Israel reports of impending military action are part of a military posturing ploy to gain more international support, especially from Russia and China, for tougher economic sanctions on Iran. Both say they will not support stiffer sanctions.

Sanctions under consideration include financial controls on Iran’s Central Bank, which would prohibit international financial institutions that want to work with U.S. banks from doing business with Iran.

Other sanctions likely would include measures aimed at blocking Iran’s import of refined fuel. Russia nor China support neither.

Israeli radio reported Nov. 13 that Netanyahu believes Iran is closer to getting a nuclear weapon than previously thought. The comments were made prior to a cabinet session on the recent IAEA report outlining Iran’s nuclear arms work for the first time.

“Today, the cabinet will receive a briefing on the IAEA report. This is a comprehensive document that strengthens the claims by leading countries in the world and Israel that Iran is systematically developing nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said.

“Any responsible government in the world needs to draw the obvious conclusions from the IAEA report. The international community must stop Iran’s race to arm itself with nuclear weapons, a race that endangers the peace of the entire world.”

Meanwhile, Former IAEA chief inspector Olli Heinonen told a German newspaper that he believes Iran will be able to build a nuclear bomb by 2013. Israel’s former Mossad director, Meir Dagan, has estimated that it would 2015 before Iran has a bomb.

“There are still many unknown elements,” Heinonen told Financial Times Deutschland. Among other things, Iran not only needs highly enriched uranium but must also be able to build a functioning warhead and a carrier missile system. “This will not be the case before 2013, probably even later,” he said.

Sensing Obama weaknesses Iran is working with proxies in Bahrain, Gaza Strip, Iraq, Lebanon, Kuwait and other countries to undermine any U.S.-led effort to destroy its nuclear weapons infrastructure.

“From Iran’s standpoint, a head-on confrontation with the United States and Israel would serve its purposes in the region and build its image as an actor that stands firm against the Western powers and does not submit to pressure,” says a new report from the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs.

“If there still was any chance of Teheran agreeing to concessions in its sporadic talks with the West about its nuclear program, the Middle Eastern turmoil has now made a compromise all but impossible,” said the report, “Iran Signals Its Readiness for a Final Confrontation.”

Authored by retired Israeli Lt. Col. Michael Segall, the report said Iran would continue to develop its military amid Western demands to halt uranium enrichment and to dismantle nuclear weapons. Segall asserted that Iran, following one of the harshest International Atomic Energy Agency reports, has sought to intimidate the Middle East and its Western allies.

“The current round of the conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel over Iran’s military nuclear program should be seen in a much wider context, one that centers on shaping a new landscape in the Middle East,” Segall wrote.

“Iran views itself as ‘the next big thing’ in the region and behaves accordingly - at the moment with no significant challenge or response from the United States and the West.”

Iran has been bolstering its proxies throughout the Middle East, including Hamas, Hizbullah and Islamic Jihad. The report said Teheran, aided by China and Russia, has concluded that threats made by Israeli and Obama  are empty.

“Iran continues to project military, political, and economic power in the region, and sees the Israeli and American focus on possibly attacking it as aimed at undermining its rising status in the changing Middle East and also as manifesting the West’s loss of its traditional mainstays of power in the region,” the report said.

“Iran no longer fears openly acknowledging that it has built capabilities for reacting to an attack - including the Palestinian organizations in Gaza and Hizbullah in Lebanon - and depicts them as part of its defensive strategy.

Holy cow! Is that one screwed up view or what?

Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

Over three decades ago, Stephen Hawking placed - and eventually lost - a bet against the existence of a black hole in Cygnus X-1. Today, astronomers are confident the Cygnus X-1 system contains a black hole, and with these latest studies they have remarkably precise values of its mass, spin, and distance from Earth. With these key pieces of information, the history of the black hole has been reconstructed.

“This new information gives us strong clues about how the black hole was born, what it weighed and how fast it was spinning,” said author Mark Reid of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) in Cambridge, Mass. “This is exciting because not much is known about the birth of black holes.”

Reid led one of three papers - all appearing in the November 10th issue of The Astrophysical Journal - describing these new results on Cygnus X-1. The other papers were led by Jerome Orosz from San Diego State University and Lijun Gou, also from CfA.

Cygnus X-1 is a so-called stellar-mass black hole, a class of black holes that comes from the collapse of a massive star. The black hole is in close orbit with a massive, blue companion star.

Using X-ray data from Chandra, the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer, and the Advanced Satellite for Cosmology and Astrophysics, a team of scientists was able to determine the spin of Cygnus X-1 with unprecedented accuracy, showing that the black hole is spinning at very close to its maximum rate. Its event horizon - the point of no return for material falling towards a black hole - is spinning around more than 800 times a second.

An independent study that compared the evolutionary history of the companion star with theoretical models indicates that the black hole was born some 6 million years ago. In this relatively short time (in astronomical terms), the black hole could not have pulled in enough gas to ramp up its spin very much. The implication is that Cygnus X-1 was likely born spinning very quickly.

Using optical observations of the companion star and its motion around its unseen companion, the team made the most precise determination ever for the mass of Cygnus X-1, of 14.8 times the mass of the Sun. It was likely to have been almost this massive at birth, because of lack of time for it to grow appreciably.

“We now know that Cygnus X-1 is one of the most massive stellar black holes in the Galaxy,” said Orosz. “And, it’s spinning as fast as any black hole we’ve ever seen.”

Knowledge of the mass, spin and charge gives a complete description of a black hole, according to the so-called “No Hair” theorem. This theory postulates that all other information aside from these parameters is lost for eternity behind the event horizon. The charge for an astronomical black hole is expected to be almost zero, so only the mass and spin are needed.

“It is amazing to me that we have a complete description of this asteroid-sized object that is thousands of light years away,” said Gou. “This means astronomers have a more complete understanding of this black hole than any other in our Galaxy.”

The team also announced that they have made the most accurate distance estimate yet of Cygnus X-1 using the National Radio Observatory’s Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA). The new distance is about 6,070 light years from Earth. This accurate distance was a crucial ingredient for making the precise mass and spin determinations.

The radio observations also measured the motion of Cygnus X-1 through space, and this was combined with its measured velocity to give the three-dimensional velocity and position of the black hole.

This work showed that Cygnus X-1 is moving very slowly with respect to the Milky Way, implying it did not receive a large “kick” at birth. This supports an earlier conjecture that Cygnus X-1 was not born in a supernova, but instead may have resulted from the dark collapse of a progenitor star without an explosion. The progenitor of Cygnus X-1 was likely an extremely massive star, which initially had a mass greater than about 100 times the sun before losing it in a vigorous stellar wind.

In 1974, soon after Cygnus X-1 became a good candidate for a black hole, Stephen Hawking placed a bet with fellow astrophysicist Kip Thorne, a professor of theoretical physics at the California Institute of Technology, that Cygnus X-1 did not contain a black hole. This was treated as an insurance policy by Hawking, who had done a lot of work on black holes and general relativity.

By 1990, however, much more work on Cygnus X-1 had strengthened the evidence for it being a black hole. With the help of family, nurses, and friends, Hawking broke into Thorne’s office, found the framed bet, and conceded.

“For forty years, Cygnus X-1 has been the iconic example of a black hole. However, despite Hawking’s concession, I have never been completely convinced that it really does contain a black hole - until now,” said Thorne. “The data and modeling described in these three papers at last provide a completely definitive description of this binary system.”

The debate and good-natured bet is entirely esoteric. Cygnus ‘ is several thousand light-years away, near the “heart” of Cygnus, the swan, two stars are locked in a gravitational embrace. One star is a blue supergiant, known as HDE 226868. It is about 30 times as massive as the Sun and 400,000 times brighter. The other star is 5 to 10 times the mass of the Sun, but it’s extremely small. The object must be the collapsed core of a star. Its mass is too great to be a white dwarf or a neutron star, though, so it must be a black hole — the corpse of a star that once resembled the supergiant.

The system is called Cygnus X-1, indicating it was the first source of X-rays discovered in the constellation Cygnus. Discovered by the Uhuru X-ray satellite in the early 1970s, it was also one of the first suspected black holes.

Black Holes are so dense, and produce such intense gravity, that even light can not escape. Theoretical physicists predict that there are situations under which light can escape (which is called Hawking radiation).

In the weeks leading up to a climate conference, Big Climate likes to flood the media with scare stories about all the bad things that will happen if the world’s leaders fail to fund more climate science on emissions.

Big Climate has been playing the same game for years, and every year is the last chance to save the planet from a harmless trace gas essential to life on Earth. Durban is this year’s last chance, in 2009 it was Copenhagen, 2008 was Poland, in 2007 Bali, and in 2006 Nairobi.

Next week, the COP17 conference begins in Durban. There were already low to no expectations of a deal. The fragile economies of most of the western world means fake problems like the weather will be put on the back burner, probably forever. But the release of 5,000 more emails in Climategate 2 has derailed even this weak meeting of climate minds.

So far, some embarrassing finds have been mined from the emails, but (as of time of writing) no blockbuster quote like the iconic ‘hide the decline’ has popped up. But Big Climate is mad as hell that the emails were released, and their fury is proof they didn’t learn a thing after the original Climategate debacle.

Phil Jones, the head of the motley CRU, reacted as if it was 2009 all over again:

The British climatologist ensnared in a new email leak has taken his case to the press, arguing that he and his colleagues’ comments have again been taken out of context.

Jones said Wednesday the emails were again being “cherry-picked” and explained away many of the messages.

Michael ‘Stick’ Mann figures it’s all a plot by Big Oil:

He said, the people behind the release were “agents doing the dirty bidding of the fossil fuel industry know they can’t contest the fundamental science of human-caused climate change. So they have instead turned to smear, innuendo, criminal hacking of websites, and leaking out-of-context snippets of personal emails in their effort to try to confuse the public about the science and thereby forestall any action to combat this critical threat. Its right out of the tried-and-true playbook of climate change denial.”

Never mind that behavior like trumpeting research to an eager press but refusing to share data and emails is right out of the scientific fraud playbook.

In the UK, Big Science circles the wagons rather than even consider that there may be something rotten at the core of politicized climate science:

Dr Simon Lewis, Royal Society research fellow at the University of Leeds, said it was all about politics.

“This latest email leak, again on the eve of important international climate talks, is about politics. Yet the shadowy, undemocratic group trying to influence these international talks will fail. I sat through two weeks of talks in Copenhagen after the first email release and heard them mentioned only once. This new leak will have a similarly limited impact. Governments know that climate science reports signed off by over 190 countries, each with their own scientists, cannot be unduly influenced by a single scientist or a small group. These emails are irrelevant.”

Dr. Lewis may recall that Copenhagen was supposed to be the last chance for the world to reach an agreement on climate policy. COP15 failed dismally, in no small part because of the revelations of Climategate. That he only heard Climategate mentioned once at Copenhagen reveals more about the ivory tower inhabited by climate scientists than he realizes, it’s not something to brag about.

The uncomfortable truth for Lewis, Mann, Jones et al is that climate scientists behaved badly, were caught, and then exposed. If they’d been less petty and arrogant and complied with legal FOIA requests, or made data freely available, Climategate 1 & 2 would never have happened. But that would have required them to behave like scientists, not activists, and that seems to be asking far too much of the people running climate science.

After deploying three warships in Syrian waters, Moscow continues to beat war drums against the United States and Israel, followed closely by Tehran. Wednesday, Nov. 23, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced he had ordered “the armed forces to develop measures to ensure we can destroy the command and control systems” of the planned US missile-defense system in Europe. Those systems also control Israel’s missile defenses against Iranian, Syria and Hizballah missiles and the X-Band radar station in the Israeli Negev.

The Russian also threatened to cancel the new START agreement clearly having decided Obama is simply to weak and indecisive to stop the former Soviet’s new aggressive strategy.

A west Georgia business owner is stirring up controversy with signs he posted on his company’s trucks, for all to see as the trucks roll up and down roads, highways and interstates:

“New Company Policy: We are not hiring until Obama is gone.”

“Can’t afford it,” explained the employer, Bill Looman, Tuesday evening. “I’ve got people that I want to hire now, but I just can’t afford it. And I don’t foresee that I’ll be able to afford it unless some things change in D.C.”

Looman’s company is U.S. Cranes, LLC. He said he put up the signs, and first posted pictures of the signs on his personal Facebook page, six months ago, and he said he received mostly positive reaction from people, “about 20-to-one positive.”

But for some reason, one of the photos went viral on the Internet on Monday.

The inauguration of Andrew Johnson as Abraham Lincoln’s vice-president in 1865 was marred  by the fact that Johnson was incredibly drunk. He’d been downing whiskey in an effort to medicate himself for typhoid fever (that was his excuse, anyway) and was so far gone by the time he was sworn in that he slurred his oaths, and had to abandon his attempts to swear in new senators.

Online footage of the incident, which occurred earlier this month during an afternoon news bulletin on the privately held REN TV channel, is being avidly viewed in both Russia and the United States.

In the footage, Tatyana Limanova, an award-winning senior newsreader at the channel, can be seen briskly reading out an item about how Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has just assumed the rotating chairmanship of the Asia Pacific Cooperation organisation.

She is then heard to say that the post “has (previously) been held by Barack Obama” before mechanically and unambiguously raising her left arm and showing the camera her raised middle finger in an offensive gesture that is sometimes known as “flipping the bird.”

The Secret Service has codenames for the president, vice-president and their family members. Ronald Reagan was ‘Rawhide’, George H. W. Bush was ‘Timberwolf’, Bill Clinton was ‘Eagle’, George W. Bush was ‘Trailblazer’ and Barack Obama is ‘Renegade’.

Obama’s support among blue-collar Democrats has slipped, with half saying they’d like to see someone else head the ticket in 2012. However, the president’s overall approval rating remains steady, hovering in the mid-40 percent since June, a new CNN/ORC International poll shows.

Even though it is unlikely that any serious Democratic challenger to Obama will emerge, 26 percent of Democrats said they would prefer another nominee, an eight-point jump since October. Regardless, 72 percent of Democrats still support Obama, according to the results of the Nov. 18-20 poll of 1,019 adults.

“The biggest change comes among white Democrats with no college education, a group typically considered the core of the party’s blue-collar constituency,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. “Half of all white Democrats with no college education say they don’t want President Obama heading their party’s ticket next year.”

Obama’s appeal to blue-collar whites has been limited. During the Democratic primaries, they threw their support to then-Sen. Hillary Clinton. In the general election, they backed Sen. John McCain by an 18-point margin, CNN reported.

The analysis, based on 2010 American Community Survey estimates, found 48.5 million, or 28 percent, of the 170.7 million native-born population age 25 and older, and 9.1 million, or 27 percent, of the 33.6 million foreign-born population age 25 and older, had a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Thirty-three percent of native-born residents had a degree in a science or engineering field, while 46 percent of those who are foreign-born had a degree in science or engineering. The difference was also pronounced in other degree fields, such as computers, mathematics and statistics, the report said.

The country of birth with the largest number of science and engineering degree holders was India with 747,000, or 18 percent of the foreign-born population with science and engineering degrees, followed by China with 516,000, or 12 percent. Other country-of-birth groups with more than 100,000 science and engineering degrees were the Philippines, South Korea, Mexico, Vietnam, Canada and Iran, the report said.

The native-born population includes anyone who was a U.S. citizen at birth — born in the United States, Puerto Rico, a U.S. island area (U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa or the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands) or abroad of a U.S. citizen parent or parents, the census said.

Arizona is taking on immigration once again, with lawmakers collecting donations from the public to put a fence along every inch of the state’s border with Mexico. It is an unprecedented effort by a state that is the busiest U.S. gateway for both illegal immigrants and drugs.

The idea came from state Senator Steve Smith, a Republican who says people from across the nation have donated about $255,000 to the project since the state in July launched a website that urges visitors to “show the world the resolve and the can-do spirit of the American people.”

Smith acknowledges he has a long way to go. The $255,000 will barely cover a half mile of fencing. Smith estimates that the total supplies alone will cost $34 million, or about $426,000 a mile.

The fence is Arizona’s latest attempt to force a debate on whether the U.S. government is doing enough to stop illegal immigration. A judge suspended key provisions of the state’s contentious immigration bill, and Gov. Jan Brewer is appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court to get them reinstated. Brewer also signed the fencing bill.

“If we change the faces in the White House, we’re on the road to recovery,” Langone tells CNBC.

“I believe it’s that simple: we need leadership, we need cheerleading, we need encouragement,” he told CNBC.

“We need businessmen and fat cats to feel like they’re doing something good, not that they’re villains and not that they’re criminals. America’s best days are ahead.”

NATO as well as the interim government in Tripoli have failed to stop the flow of weapons from Libya. They said that weapons from the arsenal of the late ruler Col. Moammar Gadhafi were streaming to such countries as Algeria, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger and Tunisia.

Niger has reported convoys of Libyan weapons entering the country. On Nov. 9, the Niger Defense Ministry said the army intercepted a weapons convoy that left Libya for Mali. A Niger soldier was killed and four others were injured in a clash three days earlier.

The Libyan convoy, comprised of at least six pickup trucks, included a range of weapons and munitions. The trucks were said to be carrying 12.7-mm and 14.5-mm machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and ammunition.

Officials said in many cases weapons have been smuggled by former aides of Gadhafi, including military commanders, through the Sahara Desert. The convoys use satellite phones to evade military patrols along the borders with Libya’s neighbors.

Tunisia has also reported clashes with arms smugglers from Libya. The smugglers, many of them believed to be former Gadhafi mercenaries from Mali, were said to have been linked with Al Qaida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb.

AQIM has claimed in the past to procure weapons from Libya. A senior commander, Mokhtar Belmokhtar, told a newspaper in Mauritania that AQIM was taking advantage of the chaos in Libya to smuggle out weapons from the former Gadhafi regime.

“It is totally natural that under such conditions we benefited from Libyan weapons,” Belmokhtar, also known as Khaled Abu Al Abass, told Nouakchott Infos.

 Countering China’s new asymmetric warfare weaponry is the basis for a new Pentagon battle concept that is the first step in what defense officials say is a new Cold War posture toward China.

The Air Sea Battle Concept was unveiled publicly last week at a Pentagon briefing. Officials said the Pentagon in August created the Air Sea Battle Office to integrate air and naval combat capabilities to bolster “emerging” national security requirements, code for China.

Military officials said the new concept is not directed at a single power. China, however, is the only nation developing anti-access, area denial weapons. Those weapons include conventional ballistic missiles, long-range precision cruise missiles, advanced integrated air and missile defense systems, electronic and cyber warfare capabilities, submarines, surface combatants, and modern combat aircraft.

“Air-Sea Battle will enable the projection of force in defense of U.S. interests and those of our allies and by sustaining stability and freedom of access throughout the global commons,” the Pentagon said in a statement.

A senior Obama administration official told The Washington Times that the new approach is a significant milestone that signals a new Cold War approach to Mainland China.

“Air Sea Battle is to China what the maritime strategy was to the Soviet Union,” the official said, noting that during the Cold War, U.S. naval forces around the world used a strategy of global presence and shows of force to deter Moscow’s advances.

“It is a very forward-deployed, assertive strategy that says we will not sit back and be punished,” the senior official said. “We will initiate.”

The concept, according to defense officials, grew out of concerns that China’s new precision-strike weapons threaten freedom of navigation in strategic waterways and other global commons.

Defense officials familiar with the concept said the ideas under consideration include:

• Building a new long-range bomber.
• Conducting joint submarine and stealth aircraft operations.
• Jointly operating new long-range unmanned strike aircraft with up to 1,000-mile ranges.
• Using Air Force forces to protect naval bases and deployed naval forces.
• Conducting joint Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force strikes inside China.
• Using Air Force aircraft to deploy sea mines.
• Using the Air Force and Navy to attack Chinese anti-satellite missiles inside China.
• Increasing the mobility of satellites to make attacks more difficult.
• Launching joint Navy and Air Force cyber-attacks on Chinese anti-access forces.

Pentagon press secretary George Little said the new office “is a hard-won and significant operational milestone in meeting emerging threats to our global access.”

China in recent years has grown more assertive in waters near its shores, harassing U.S. Navy surveillance ships in the South China Sea and Yellow Sea.

The Pentagon also is concerned about China’s new DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile that can hit aircraft carriers at sea. Carriers are the key power-projection capability in Asia and would be used in defending Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in Manila on the same day to give backing to the Philippines’ effort to convene an international conference to resolve sovereignty disputes in the South China Sea. While China claims ownership over the entire South China Sea, its sovereignty is disputed by countries including the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Taiwan.

Philippine President Benigno Aquino is set to initiate talks relating to the South China Sea crisis at the ASEAN East Asia Summit to be held in Bali, Indonesia this weekend. One proposal is to convene an international conference to discuss how to turn the South China Sea into what Manila calls a “Zone of Peace, Freedom, Friendship, and Cooperation.” Obama, who would attend the summit, is also expected to address issues of freedom of navigation in the waters of the Asia-Pacific.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry slammed the stationing of U.S. troops in Australia as “inappropriate and counter to the peaceful development of the region.”

“It may not be quite appropriate to intensify and expand military alliances and this may not be in the interest of countries within this region,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said.

The Peoples Daily pointed out in a commentary on Wednesday that “If Australia uses its military bases to help the U.S. harm Chinese interests, then Australia itself will be caught in the crossfire.”

Moreover, Beijing has called upon ASEAN members including Malaysia and Indonesia not to second Aquino’s motion to discuss the South China Sea in Bali. Beijing has indicated that only economic and trade matters should be put on the agenda of the summit. It has been a long-standing Chinese policy to insist on resolving territorial disputes on a one-on-one and not a multilateral basis.

Chinese sources in Beijing said the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership was taken aback by the series of aggressive steps taken by Obama the past week. While hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum at Hawaii last weekend, Obama also gave a big push to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a free-trade area of up to 10 countries that does not include China.

The sources said the CCP Leading Group on Foreign Affairs, the nation’s top foreign policy-making organ headed by President Hu, had decided on a two-pronged strategy to blunt Obama’s “anti-China containment policy.”

In the near term, Beijing will focus on reassuring ASEAN members that its basic principle regarding the resolution of territorial claims in the South China Sea is “joint development while setting aside the issue of sovereignty.” The CCP leadership is also prepared to boost investment in and infrastructure aid to countries including Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.

At the same time, the Peoples’ Liberation Army Navy will raise the frequency of its patrols of disputed islets in the Paracel and Spratly islands. This is geared toward putting pressure on individual ASEAN countries to arrive at an early settlement with China under the “joint development” model.

Beijing also hopes to use economic inducements to convince countries including Australia and Japan not to join in Washington’s “anti-China containment policy.” Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, who recently concluded military a and intelligence-gathering cooperation agreements with Vietnam and the Philippines, is scheduled to visit Beijing next month.

The Arab Spring has failed in Egypt, and the Muslim Brotherhood may turn the most populous nation in the Middle East into an Islamist state within months, says Walid Phares, a Mideast expert and adviser to Congress.

And if the Obama administration doesn’t alter its flawed strategy in confronting this threat, the entire region could be in turmoil by this time next year, Phares said in an exclusive Newsmax interview.

“If the Obama administration doesn’t change strategic direction in Washington, the Middle East, one year from now, will look much more dangerous than ever before,” Phares said.

Phares spoke as events in Egypt, which makes up roughly one-quarter of the Arab world’s population, disintegrated further. Egypt’s military rulers agreed on Tuesday to form a “national salvation government” and speed up the process towards presidential elections, reports say. The move follows days of often violent protests in Cairo’s Tahrir Square.

“At the end of the day, it is really the Muslim Brotherhood who are taking advantage of the process and we may end up seeing an Egypt, a few months from now, next year, as an Islamist state,” Phares said.

Thousands of protesters have converged on Tahrir Square in Cairo and also in Alexandria and Suez during the past four days to demonstrate against military rule, and specifically, the military’s move to exempt itself from control by the civilian government, whose members resigned en masse late Monday night.

Deposed leader Hosni Mubarak’s former defense minister heads the military council, called the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.

“Unfortunately, over the past few months, the Muslim Brotherhood and the military have cut a deal. Now the deal is off,” Phares said in explaining the circumstances that have brought thousands back to the streets in the biggest protests since massive demonstrations forced President Hosni Mubarak from office after 30 years of rule.

The Muslim Brotherhood mobilized the majority of the youths protesting in Tahrir Square to attack the military to force the military council to “cut another deal.”

The Muslim Brotherhood wants power transferred from the military council into its own hands to use it to establish an Islamist state, Phares said.

The significance cannot be ignored because is not only the largest Arab nation but also Israel’s main partner in the peace process in the Middle East, Phares said.

“In the region, all of that could change,” Phares said. “The peace process will be impacted, our alliance with the Egyptian government and military can change, and the Muslim Brotherhood are not going to be only in Egypt, they are going to be across the region.”

In Libya, where the transitional government recently announced that Shariah, or Islamic religious law, will be instituted, the young will be educated in madrasas, Islamic schools, Phares warned. A jihadist movement will be built up from those youths, he said.

“We’re too late. We tried to drive from behind, maneuver from behind, and now the results are dramatic,” he said.

The Obama administration committed what Phares described as a “strategic analysis failure” in Libya that resulted in missteps during the uprising, although it resulted in the capture and killing of Moammar Gadhafi.

“The problem has been in Washington that the administration’s evaluation and the expertise offered to the administration for that evaluation have not been correct,” Phares said. “Now, we have a situation in Libya and in North Africa whereby the Islamists, who have been coined and described as moderate and as reformists, are going to emphasize a jihadist ideology and that will create trouble in the region.”

And Iran, which continues to develop nuclear weapons, clearly has no fear of the Obama administration, he said.

“If they look to their west, they see us withdrawing abruptly from Iraq in weeks. If they look to their east, they know we are trying to engage the Taliban to withdraw from Afghanistan,” Phares said. “If they look to their south, we are not mobilizing out task forces to contain the Iranians.

“And if they hear the speeches coming out of Washington when there were uprisings in the streets of Tehran as of June 2009, they hear word from the administration that we are not interested in supporting the Iranian opposition. So if I am the Iranian regime, I wouldn’t be worried.”

Hypocritically as it pounds the table to pass its jobs bill the Obama administration pressured analysts to change an environmental review to reflect fewer job losses from a proposed regulation, the contractors who worked on the review testified Friday.

The dispute revolves around proposed changes to a rule regulating coal mining near streams and other waterways. The experts contracted to analyze the impact of the rule initially found that it would cost 7,000 coal jobs.But the contractors claim they were subsequently pressured to not only keep the findings under wraps but “revisit” the study in order to show less of an impact on jobs.

Exhaustive investigations into the deadly explosion of the Iranian Sejil-2 ballistic missile at the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Alghadir base last Saturday, Nov. 12  point increasingly to a technical fault caused by the computer system controlling the missile and not the missile itself. The head of Iran’s ballistic missile program Maj. Gen. Hassan Moghaddam was among the 36 officers killed in the blast. The IRGC is investigating the possible Stuxnet virus infection of this computer system as the cause of the explosion.

Military and Iranian sources disclose three pieces of information coming out of the early IRGC probe:

• 1. Maj. Gen. Moghaddam had gathered Iran’s top missile experts around the Sejil 2 to show them a new type of warhead which could also carry a nuclear payload. No experiment was planned. The experts were shown the new device and asked for their comments.

 2. Moghaddam presented the new warhead through a computer simulation attached to the missile. His presentation was watched on a big screen. The missile exploded upon an order from the computer.

The warhead blew first; the solid fuel in its engines next, so explaining the two consecutive bangs across Tehran and the early impression of two explosions, the first more powerful than the second, occurring at the huge 52 sq. kilometer complex of Alghadir. The blasts were so powerful windows rattled 30 miles away in Teheran.

• 3. Because none of the missile experts survived and all the equipment and structures pulverized within a half-kilometer radius of the explosion, the investigators had no witnesses and hardly any physical evidence to work from.

In a major lift for proponents of California’s same-sex marriage ban, the California Supreme Court ruled Friday that they have legal standing under state law to defend the measure in court.

The opinion is expected to increase the likelihood that the ultra-liberal 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will rule the proponents of Proposition 8, approved by voters in 2008, have authority to defend the measure, allowing the case to move forward.

The California Supreme Court concluded, “When the public officials who ordinarily defend a challenged state law or appeal a judgment invalidating the law decline to do so … the official proponents of a voter-approved initiative measure are authorized to assert the state’s interest in the initiative’s validity, enabling the proponents to defend the constitutionality of the initiative and to appeal a judgment invalidating the initiative.”

The state court’s opinion isn’t binding, but it was solicited by the federal appeals court before that court considers constitutional merits of the case. The appeals court had previously rejected a bid by Imperial County for legal standing to defend Proposition 8. If it had ruled that proponent ProtectMarriage.com did not have legal standing, the appeal might have been stopped short.

The state court ruled the proponents of initiatives in California have legal standing to defend the measures they back, even when the state’s elected officials decline to do so.

“The court rescued the initiative process from being fundamentally undermined,” said Pacific Legal Foundation attorney Harold Johnson, who filed a friend-of-the-court brief in favor of proponents, in a statement. “The court recognized that when voters exercise their right to enact a law or constitutional amendment by initiative, that measure deserves a defense when challenged.”

 Barak slammed former IAEA director Dr. Mohammed ElBaradei, who is now running for election as Egyptian president, accusing him of concealing the truth about Iran’s nuclear development. He praised the incumbent director, Yukiya Amano, for leveling on what his experts had found.

Barak offered the opinion that if the late Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi had not relinquished his nuclear program in 2003 but attained a nuclear bomb instead, the March 2011 NATO operation against him would not have been ordered either by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi or British Prime Minister David Cameron.

As to Iraq’s Saddam Hussain: Had he possessed “a few crude nuclear devices when he invaded Kuwait in 1990,” said Barak,  the US-led coalition could not have pushed him out of the emirate in the first Gulf War.

In the interview, Barak warned that a nuclear-armed Iran would touch off a Middle East nuclear arms race drawing in Egypt and less responsible regimes headed by the Muslim Brotherhood.

“You could wake up one morning,” he said, “to find Iran had occupied Bahrain or Qatar. Who then would come and liberate them?”

Barak declined to answer questions about the feasibility of totally destroying the Iranian nuclear program.

 He also offered no opinion on the view that a military operation against Iran would gain no more than a three-year breathing space before Tehran rebuilt its nuclear weapons program, a view recently articulated by US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

He was far from optimistic about international sanctions stopping Iran in its nuclear tracks.

 The defense minister went on to warmly praised President Barack Obama and his administration’s commitment to Israel’s security and said “Under this administration we have advanced still further into a clear, deep, deep commitment to the security of Israel and beyond.”

He also praised the administration’s policy of combating terrorism, such as the targeting of Osama bin Laden.
Wednesday night, reports:  A short statement was read out to the Knesset (Israel’s parliament by cabinet member Michael Eitan Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 16. It read: “Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu informed the full Knesset plenum that all options are on the table when it comes to Iran’s nuclear program. The prime minister and the authorized bodies are acting to stop the nuclear armament of Iran. The efforts are ongoing and we will do everything possible to enlist states in the international community, “he continued “because the Iranian threat is adanger not only to the State of Israel but to world peace.”

The Knesset was due to devote a special session to the question of an attack on Iran.

Military sources report that this is the first statement of this nature the prime minister has ever delivered to Israel’s parliament. It was phrased notably in the present tense. “The authorized bodies” are thought to refer to the Israeli Defense Forces and its intelligence community.

 Also worth noting is that Netanyahu sent a minister to read out his message. He himself absent from this key debate and so was the defense minister. For the first time too, there was no reference to sanctions which have figured hitherto in all Israeli official statements on the Iranian nuclear controversy.

The implication is that an operation against a nuclear Iran may be in the works. If so, a response from Tehran is to be expected shortly.

Earlier Wednesday, the supreme commander of Iran’s armed forces Gen. Hassan Firouz-Abadi said Israel’s cries of alarm about Iran’s nuclear development bespeak shock and fear. But nothing will save the Zionist regime from its bitter fate - a hint at Iran’s nuclear capability.

Firouz-Abadi said the massive explosion which killed Iran’s missile chief Saturday “had nothing to do with Israel or America.” It took place during “research on weapons that could strike Israel,” adding that the blast had delayed by only two weeks the development of an undisclosed military “product.”

 The two statements together aroused lively speculation in the tense climate left by the latest nuclear watchdog agency’s evidence of Iran’s work on a nuclear weapon. Linking them might suggest that the Israeli prime minister had decided to refute the Iranian general’s claim. By stating that “efforts are ongoing” to stop Iran’s nuclear armament, he may have been implying that  the explosion at the Guards base Saturday was indeed a covert Israeli operation in line with those efforts.

At the close of business on Tuesday, the debt of the federal government exceeded $15 trillion for the first time–with the largest single owner of the publicly held portion of that debt being the Federal Reserve.

Over the past year, as the Federal Reserve massively increased its holdings of U.S. Treasury securities and entities in China marginally decreased theirs, the Fed surpassed the Chinese as the top owner of publicly held U.S. government debt.

In its latest monthly report, the Federal Reserve said that as of Sept. 28, it owned $1.665 trillion in U.S. Treasury securities. That was more than double the $812 billion in U.S. Treasury securities the Fed said it owned as of Sept. 29, 2010.

Meanwhile, as of the end of this September, entities in mainland China owned $1.1483 trillion in U.S. Treasury securities, according to data published today by the U.S. Treasury Department. That was down slightly from the $1.1519 trillion in U.S. Treasury securities the Chinese owned as of the end of September 2010, according to the same Treasury Department report.

Thus, at the end of September 2010, the Chinese owned about $339.9 billion more in U.S. Treasury securities than the Fed owned at that time. By the end of September 2011, the Fed owned about $516.7 billion more in U.S. Treasury securities than the Chinese owned.

The U.S. Treasury Department divides the federal government’s debt into two general categories: debt held by the public-the type owned by the Chinese and the Federal Reserve-and “intragovernmental debt,” which consists of what essentially are IOUs the Treasury gives to government trust funds such as the Social Security trust when it takes and spends their money on other things.

The current total national debt of $15.0336 trillion, reported by the Treasury today, consists of approximately $10.3145 trillion in debt held by the public and $4.7191 trillion in intragovernmental debt.

The combined $2.8133 trillion in U.S. government debt held by the public that is now owned by the Federal Reserve and the Chinese equals more than 27 percent of all U.S. government debt held by the public.

Currently, foreign entities, including those in China, own $4.6603 trillion of the U.S. government debt held by the public. These foreign entities, together with the Federal Reserve, own a combined $6.3253 trillion of the U.S. government’s debt held by the public.

That $6.3253 trillion in Federal Reserve-and-foreign-held debt equals more than 61 percent of the U.S. government’s publicly held debt.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

Israel is increasingly concerned over the rise of the Islamic opposition in Jordan. Sources say Jordan’s King Abdullah is increasingly being seen as conceding to the demands of the opposition, including possibly rejecting Jordan’s peace treaty with Israel.

“Abdullah is fading rapidly and needs U.S. help,” an official said.

Netanyahu has convened high-level consultations regarding the instability in Jordan. Sources said the prime minister was urged to use Israeli influence to help Jordan in the United States, particularly for seeking an increase in aid to the Hashemite kingdom.

“Israel’s immediate responsibility is to support the kingdom, support the king, and convince the United States to cancel its millions [of dollars] in debt, to speak with the Jordanians, to call the king and to create numerous connections, as did, for example, [the late Prime Minister] Yitzhak Rabin,” Israeli analyst Eitan Haber said.

Officials said Abdullah has been disassociating himself from Israel.

They cited the king’s repeated warnings of regional instability because of Israel’s policies toward the Palestinians. Most say he did so to appease Obama who has increasingly dissed Israel in favor of Muslims.

Haber, regarded as close to Defense Minister Ehud Barak, said Jordan remains vital for Israel’s security. A former adviser to Rabin, Haber said Israel’s help to Jordan would ensure that the kingdom serve as a buffer for any Iranian ground attack.

“Jordan today separates between the Iranians and Israel,” Haber said in an analysis published in Israel’s Yediot Aharonot daily on Nov. 2. “The Iranians will stop on the border of the desert if they know that the Jordanians are willing to fight them, and if they know that behind them, ready to do battle, is the power of Israel.”

On Nov. 4, the Obama administration reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to Jordan.

Assistant Secretary of State Andrew Shapiro said the U.S. was providing Jordan with more than $300 million in military and security aid amid the revolt in neighboring Syria.

“Jordan continues to provide support for U.S. regional priorities, such as the Middle East peace process, countering radicalism, stabilizing Iraq, and most recently Operation Unified Protector in Libya,” Shapiro said.

 One of the most serious consequences of Obama’s Rodney King-like foreign policy is China’s support for Iranian terrorists. For instance:

• China constructed a missile manufacturing plant in Iran last year in possible violation of UN sanctions. U.S. law requires sanctions be imposed against foreign companies that help Iran’s arms programs.
• According to a draft report by the congressional U.S.-China Commission, the Chinese also sold cruise missiles to Iran in violation of a 1997 promise by Beijing not to export C-802 anti-ship missiles to Iran.

A C-802 missile was later used by Hizbullah terrorist military forces to sink an Israeli patrol boat during the 2006 summer war in southern Lebanon, highlighting the proliferation risk of Chinese missile sales.

“China continues to provide Iran with advanced conventional weapons,” the commission report said. These are all the effects of America’s lose of stature; failed respect. and absence of it being feared.

China sold $312-million worth of arms to Iran, second only to Russia, after Congress passed the Iran Freedom Support Act in 2006. The act allows the U.S. government to impose sanction against foreign companies that provide advanced arms to Iran. After Russia began cutting back arms transfers to Iran in 2008, China became the largest arms supplier to the Iranian military, the report noted.

China regards U.S. sanctions as a violation of its sovereignty and has ignored U.S. appeals not to arm Teheran.

 Most of the weapons transfers involved Chinese anti-ship cruise missiles, the report said.

 The Chinese missile plant was built to produce Iran’s Nasr-1 anti-ship cruise missile. “Because of the relatively short range of these missiles, China’s provision of them to Iran does not violate the Iran, North Korea and Syria Nonproliferation Act of 2006, which seeks to prevent the transfer of only those missiles that can carry a 500-kilogram (1,100 pounds) warhead more than 300 kilometers (217 miles),” the report said.

“It is possible, however, that these transactions violate the Iran Freedom Support Act, or the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act of 2010, which both use the ambiguous term ‘advanced conventional weapons.’ ”

The report also said there are concerns that China “quietly continued to provide some support for Iran’s pursuit of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile capabilities.”

 China, according to the report, also is supporting North Korea’s military and providing economic and technical assistance to Pyongyang.

“Despite Beijing’s stated claim to be acting as a responsible major power, China continues to place its national interests ahead of regional stability by providing economic and diplomatic support to countries that undermine international security.”

The first Rasmussen Reports Election 2012 survey of Likely Missouri Voters finds Romney with 45% support to Obama’s 42%.

A generic Republican candidate continues to lead Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup, this time by four points for the week ending Sunday, November 6.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds the generic Republican earning 46% support, while Obama picks up 42% of the vote.  Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and eight percent (8%) are undecided.

In the Republican race for the presidential nomination, Newt Gingrich’s support continues to slowly grow, and he is now tied with Mitt Romney , while Herman Cain slipped back to third zccording to a Marist poll. Both Cain and Romney have lost support since late October.

In a new CBS News Poll, 61 percent of Republican primary voters say the sexual harassment accusations against Cain won’t make any difference in their vote, but 30 percent say the charges make them less likely to back him, and that rises to 38 percent among women. Cain has lost support among women since last month - from 28 percent in October to 15 percent now. He has lost ground with conservatives and Tea Party supporters as well.

But the race could still change; seven in 10 Republican primary voters say it is still too early to say for sure which candidate they will support.

It’s a sly and devious approach to promoting Middle East arms proliferation and saber rattling against Iran: the Obama administration (unlike the Bush administration which refused to do so) has already supplied Israel with the bunker buster bombs which they would need to (try to) take out Iran’s nuclear facilities.  

But this makes the U. S. look like Israel’s weapons pimp.  So what better way to defuse that claim than by arming an Arab country that hates Iran almost as much as Israel, with the same weapons?  Now, if only Israel can persuade UAE to launch a joint attack on Iran you’d have an Israeli-Arab Coalition of the Willing, even if it’s only two. That dramatically changes the dynamic.

A senior Foreign Office official says British government ministers have been told to expect Israeli military action in the wake of the UN watchdog report “as early as Christmas or very early in the new year,” the London Daily Mail reported Thursday, Nov. 10.  The ministers were told that Israel would strike Iran’s nuclear sites “sooner rather than later” - with “logistical support” from the US.

According to the British paper, which has good military and intelligence ties in London, President Barack Obama would “have to support the Israelis or risk losing Jewish-American support in the next presidential election.” The bigger concern is that once Iran is nuclear-armed, it will be impossible to stop Saudi Arabia and Turkey from developing their own weapons to even out the balance of nuclear terror in the Middle East.’

Military sources add that Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has told Obama more than once this year, “If Iran gets nuclear arms, Turkey will get nuclear arms.”

The Daily Mail goes on to report that in recent weeks, British Ministry of Defense sources confirmed that contingency plans had been drawn up in the event that the UK decided to support military action.

 The British chief of staff, Gen. Sir David Richards, paid a secret visit to Israel on Nov. 2, followed the next day by the arrival in London of the Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak for talks with British defense and military heads.

The reference to US logistical support is explained by our military sources as pointing to the Libyan model of military intervention whereby France, Britain and Italy spearheaded the action against the Qaddafi regime while the United States from “a back seat” laid on satellite and aerial intelligence and placed at their disposal its logistical supply network, including the in-flight refueling of bombers and ordnance.

Transposing this model to an offensive against Iran, Israel’s air and naval forces would front the attack on Iran with logistical and intelligence backup from the United States, while leading NATO powers France, Britain, Germany, Holland and Italy would participate directly or indirectly in the Israeli operation.
Since this attack would almost certainly bring forth reprisals from Tehran and its allies, Syria, Hizballah and the Palestinian Hamas and Jihad Islami, it would almost certainly expand into a wider Middle East conflict, thus also broadening US and West European military intervention.

 Prospects are fading for the alternative to military action - tough new sanctions able to choke Iran’s financial operations and oil exports after the nuclear agency confirmed its surreptitious attainment of a nuclear weapon capability.

Wednesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov promised visiting Iranian official Ali Baqeri that “Any additional sanctions against Iran will be seen… as an instrument for regime change in Tehran. That approach is unacceptable to us and the Russian side does not intend to consider such proposals.”

China will certainly go along with Russia on this.

 Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s first response to the IAEA report was to attack its credibility and declare that Iran would continue its nuclear program regardless of its findings.

Lawyers for the federal labor agency fighting Boeing’s new factory in North Charleston, N.C., repeatedly joked among themselves about the dispute and exchanged a political cartoon portraying S.C. Sen. Glenn McConnell as a crass-speaking confederate soldier, according to internal documents released Wednesday.

 The emails, memos and other documents from the National Labor Relations Board, which the agency provided in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, also portray Sen. Lindsey Graham’s behind-the-scenes efforts to prevent it from filing a complaint against Boeing.

And two internal emails on April 21 and April 22 refer to Sen. Jim DeMint as “Senator Dement” and “Sen. Dement,” with the normally capitalized “M” in his name typed as a small “m” in an apparent bid to tie it more directly to the word “demented.”

In an April 8 conversation, Graham warned NLRB acting general counsel Lafe Solomon against incurring DeMint’s wrath if he took action against Boeing over alleged union-busting at its Everett, Wash., commercial jet plants.

“He said that the charge would scare Boeing’s customers and could affect orders,” Solomon wrote in a note for his files after talking with Graham. “He said that the political fallout would be huge and that he was more reasonable than his Senate counterpart (DeMint).”

Graham used tougher words in a follow-up conversation three days later.

“He said that if a complaint was filed, it will be ‘nasty, very, very nasty,’” Solomon wrote in an April 11 file note. “He said that this was a case of how not to grow the economy. … He said that if (a) complaint issued, he was going ‘full guns-ablazing.’”

 Solomon ignored Graham’s warnings and filed a complaint with the NLRB on April 20. It alleges that Boeing expanded production of its Dreamliner aircraft to South Carolina, a right-to-work state, in retaliation for past strikes by Machinists union members at its Puget Sound factories.

Boeing says it built the plant next to Charleston International Airport because the state government gave the aerospace giant $900 million in tax incentives and it couldn’t afford to production delays that future work stoppages might cause.

An NLRB administrative law judge in Seattle is considering the case following oral arguments by the two sides in June. It could end up in the federal courts and take years to resolve.

Graham, a Republican, said Wednesday that Solomon had described their conversations accurately, including his warning about DeMint. “Both senators were outraged,” Graham spokesman Kevin Bishop said.

DeMint took no offense at Graham’s characterization of him.

“He’s right,” DeMint said. “I tend to be less forgiving of these things.”

DeMint aimed his ire at the NLRB.

“These documents support what we all suspected,” the Republican said. “This is a politically driven attack on workers in right-to-work states by ideologues on the board to tilt the scales of justice in the union bosses’ favor.”

 NLRB officials declined to comment on the documents, which were obtained by Judiciary Watch, a Washington watchdog group. Rep. Tim Scott, a first-term North Charleston Republican whose congressional district is home to the new Boeing

factory, called on the labor agency to drop the complaint against Boeing immediately.
“I am shocked the NLRB would make such comments as they hold in their hands the jobs of 1,100 hard-working men and women here in South Carolina,” Scott said. “This continues to show the poor judgment and lack of common sense in the board’s leadership which already threatens the future of major parts of our nation’s economy.”

Among the agency’s more provocative internal documents:

• On May 12, NLRB attorney Joseph Baniszewski emailed to agency lawyer Jennifer Abruzzo cartoon in which Spartanburg Herald-Journal illustrator Robert Ariail portrayed McConnell in confederate garb and under a confederate “Right to Work” flag firing a cannonball emblazoned “To NLRB - Kiss My Grits.” McConnell, who participates in Civil War reenactments, says in the cartoon, “Keep yo’ featherbeddin’ union hands off of our jobs, Yankee pond scum!”
• On April 22, Solomon emailed to a colleague an online article from Europe that criticized the agency for going after Boeing. “The article gave me a new idea,” Solomon quipped. “You go to Geneva and I get a job with Airbus. We screwed up the U.S. economy, and now we can tackle Europe.”
• On April 28, Miriam Szapiro, an NLRB attorney, sent an email to agency lawyer Debra Willen, noting that an Economist magazine blog was backing the NLRB’s position in the case. “It just shows you how incredibly reactionary the U.S. is, that the conservative Economist thinks we’re (Americans) Neanderthal,” Szapiro wrote.

Rob Godfrey, a spokesman for S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley, said the NLRB employees’ jokes about the Boeing case didn’t amuse her.

“The NLRB is a disrespectful agency that apparently believes that the jobs and companies they are threatening is all fun and games,” Godfrey said. “They are wrong. These are real people, real jobs and real companies. This is not and has never been a laughing matter.”

Revenue was $810.5 million less than budgeted in October, bringing the total to 6.2 percent below expectations for July 1 through Oct. 31, according to figures released today by Controller John Chiang. Since the start of the fiscal year, the state has spent $1.7 billion more than it budgeted.

The $86 billion spending plan Governor Jerry Brown and fellow Democrats adopted in June included a series of cuts to be activated if revenue falls below certain levels. In December, Brown’s finance department will estimate whether the rest of the year’s revenue can meet the original projection.

“October’s poor revenues capped a very disappointing first four months of the fiscal year,” Chiang said in a statement. “Unless revenues and expenditures begin to track with projections, the state will face increasing cash pressure in the months ahead.”

The first tier of cuts, if the shortfall is $1 billion, would trim University of California and California State University budgets by $100 million each, increase community- college fees by $10 per unit and cut in-home services for the elderly and disabled who need help.

If the gap widens to $2 billion, it could mean a seven-day reduction in the school year to save $1.54 billion and an end to $248 million in student busing subsidies.

California’s politicians have not admitted “you can’t eat sunshine” and the “Golden State” is broke.

British government ministers have been told to expect Israeli military action against Iran “as early as Christmas or very early in the new year,” the London Daily Mail reported Thursday, Nov. 10.  The ministers were told that Israel would strike Iran’s nuclear sites “sooner rather than later” - with “logistical support” from the US.

Fifty Libyan Muslim Brotherhood mercenaries arrived in the Gaza Strip from Tripoli last month - in time to take part in the Jihad Islami’s last missile offensive against Israel starting Oct. 29.

They arrived at the wheels of minivans on which were mounted the new Grad multiple rocket-launchers which Palestinian terrorists fired for the first time last month. These mobile rocket-launchers were last seen on the Libyan battlefield in use against Muammar Qaddafi’s army.

The 50 mercenaries did not bother to paint over the Libyan national colors or replace the trucks’ Libyan license plates. Jihad Islami fighters kept them sequestered away from awkward questions about who sent them.

The Libyan mercenaries left Tripoli on October 10 aboard two buses which drove them via Benghazi to Tobruk. They then entered Egypt as tourists.On Oct. 21, the day Muammar Qaddafi was killed, they crossed the Suez Canal into the Sinai Peninsula.

The minivans mounted with the Grad multiple rocket launchers had been moved out of Libya by a separate route and were waiting in the care of Bedouin smugglers beside a Sinai wadi near the old copper mines of Ras Sudar.

They looked quite new with no sign of having been in combat

Military sources report that, Qatar and the United Arab Republic had supplied these advanced rocket-launchers to assorted Libyan National Transitional Council militias, their accurate fire against designated targets intended to counter the precision of the Libyan army’s artillery.But their effectiveness was demonstrated most strikingly after Qaddafi’s fall in the Gaza Strip, where they instantly improved the Palestinian extremists’ aim against Israeli locations. Most of these rapid-firing missiles were also able to evade Israel’s Iron Dome missile interceptors. When the Palestinians reverted to their old weapons, they continued to miss their aim.

The Libyan convoy had to travel some 2,000 kilometers through Egypt to reach the Gaza Strip, raising questions about how it had failed to arouse the notice of local security units. Western sources discovered that the Egyptian Islamic Brotherhood had made all the necessary arrangements for the Libyan Brotherhood mercenaries’ long trek to Gaza under its protection, and more are on the way.

Furthermore, large sums of money would have been available to smooth their passage and that of the new Grads. Intelligence sources report that Hamas and Hizballah arms purchasing missions worked out of Benghazi and Tripoli for seven months, buying hardware from rebel militias for hard cash. After Tripoli fell in late August, they split up between the two cities and are still snapping up black market arms sold by NTC militias.

Syria got enriched uranium and equipment for its “newly discovered” uranium enrichment plant from Iraq when its ruler Saddam Hussein in early March 2003  decided to dispose of the bulk of his nuclear plant and weapons of mass destruction by spiriting them out to Syria, then his closest ally. According to the latest IAEA report. It was just such WMDs that provoked President Bush’s invasion of Iraq and when nothing was immediately found he was accused of lying. A third former employee of the National Restaurant Association has come forward to say that Herman Cain sexually harassed her, inviting her up to his corporate apartment when he was chairman of the group.

She told the Associated Press that she considered filing a complaint against Cain for his “aggressive and unwanted behavior,” but eventually decided against it.

The woman’s revelation was just one of many hits that Cain took on Wednesday as it became clear that the accusations against him are threatening to grow into a full-blown scandal with the potential to derail his campaign.

Other developments included:

• Conservative radio host Steve Deace complaining that Cain made “inappropriate comments” to two female staff members during a visit to his studio in Des Moines, Iowa;
• A man who worked for the restaurant association giving an eyewitness account of Cain’s alleged harassment;
• The lawyer for one of the women who made formal complaints against Cain approaching the National Restaurant Association asking for his client to be released from the confidentiality agreement that prevents her from speaking publicly; and
• Cain snapping at reporters who tried to ask him questions about the burgeoning scandal.

The third woman - who like the other two has not been publicly identified - told the AP that Cain told her that he had mentioned to colleagues how attractive he thought she was. He then gave what she described as “a private invitation” to his corporate apartment outside of work.

She described his actions which, she said, included making sexually suggestive comments, as “inappropriate and it made me feel uncomfortable.”

This third woman is not believed to be subject to any confidentiality agreements with the restaurant association, unlike the two who made formal complaints, and there is no record that she received any pay-off when left the group.

However, she insisted on anonymity because she feared retaliation.
She said she did not make a formal complaint because as time went on, she had less and less contact with Cain at work.

Cain has spent the past three days battling allegations that he harassed two female employees in the late 1990s when he headed the restaurant association. Details have only now started to trickle out about what he is alleged to have done.

Joel Bennett, the lawyer for one of the women, said he had asked the association to allow his client to speak, although the association said they had had no contact with him. Cain hasn’t said anything about that.

The third woman’s accusations capped a terrible day for Cain, which started when he went to Alexandria, Va. to give a talk on health care. He curtly told reporters “I’m here with these doctors and that’s what I’m going to talk about. So don’t even bother asking me all of those other questions that you are all curious about.

When one reporter tried to pin him down on whether he would agree to release his accusers from their confidentiality agreements, Cain snapped, “Excuse me! Excuse me! What part of no don’t some people understand?”

His day got worse when Chris Wilson, who worked for the restaurant association in the 1990s - and now works as a pollster for the campaign of Cain rival, Texas Gov. Rick Perry - told a radio station in Oklahoma City that he had witnessed Cain in a restaurant in Crystal City, Va. with one of the women who made formal complaints about his behavior.

He said that for him, too, there were legal reasons why he could not go into details of what happened. But he said Cain’s actions were so bad that if the woman in question came forward and talked about it, “It’ll probably be the end of his campaign.”

In an interview on KTOK radio, Wilson described the woman as a low-level staffer, a couple of years out of college. “Everybody was aware of it,” Wilson said. “It was only a matter of time because so many people were aware of what took place, so many people were aware of her situation, the fact she left.”

He said he believes the restaurant association will be left with no choice but to agree to allow the women to speak publicly about Cain’s behavior and that the candidate is only digging himself deeper into a hole by continuing to challenge the women.

Deace’s claim was even more bizarre. It only came after Cain’s own campaign manager, Mark Block, had insisted that Cain had “never sexually harassed anybody. Period. End of story.”

But then, unprompted, Block revealed a new allegation.

“As the hours go by, it’s interesting that we even hear from a radio talk show host of Iowa that a receptionist thought that Mr. Cain’s comments were inappropriate,” he said.

The website Politico, which originally broke the sexual harassment story on Sunday, asked Deace to explain. The nationally syndicated host replied with a cryptic email, saying, “Like awkward/inappropriate things he’s said to two females on my staff, that the fact the guy’s wife is never around…that’s almost always a warning flag to me.”

When Politico pressed him to be more explicit, Deace wrote, “Many a man has been done in by the inability to control his urges. I am no different and just as vulnerable as any other man, which is why I put safeguards around me and hold myself accountable to my wife and other men in my life.

Especially since I have very talented employees that happen to be women. I go out of my way to treat them like my sisters. For example, I wouldn’t tell them or any other woman I am not married to nor related to how pretty she is.”

Deace told Politico he had no idea how Block would know about his staff’s unease.

“To the best of my knowledge neither me nor anyone on my staff has ever spoken to Block.”

Cain accuses the Perry campaign of planting the sexual harassment story.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange, Calif., has filed a petition in bankruptcy court to block the sale of the famed Crystal Cathedral’s 40-acre campus to Chapman University, stating that the plan will not pay creditors in full and will set up the ministry for failure.

The diocese’s offer of $53.6 million is a better bid for the Crystal Cathedral property than the $50 million offered by Chapman University, its attorneys argue in the petition, according to the Orange County Register. Rewportedly Chatham matched the Catholic offer.

Last week, administrators at the bankrupt cathedral, which Robert H. Schuller founded, announced that their board had selected Chapman as the preferred buyer.

The difference between the two plans is that Chapman offers the church the option to lease back core church buildings and buy them back within five years, while the diocese’s plan calls for a three-year leasing plan and proposes that the ministry move to an alternative worship space the diocese offered at a reduced rate, according to the diocese’s petition.

Crystal Cathedral Ministries then would have the option to buy that property at 90 percent of the market rate, the filings state.

The diocese requests that the court order Crystal Cathedral and the creditors’ committee to accept its offer rather than the Chapman offer or require the property to be sold via an auction.

Chapman officials were not available for comment to the Register.

The Syrian opposition has been quietly meeting with NATO to
discuss the establishment of another no-fly zone in the Middle East.

Opposition sources said their leadership has convened with key members
of NATO to examine the formation of a no-fly zone mission over Syria. They
said the no-fly zone was vital to stop the regime of President Bashar Assad
from using its fixed- and rotary-wing military aircraft fleet against the
hundreds of thousands of protesters.

“This issue is under serious discussion in the decision-making circles,”
opposition leader Radwan Ziyadah said.

On Oct. 28, thousands of Syrians held demonstrations that called on the
international community to impose a no-fly zone. The demonstrators called on
the United Nations and the Arab League to protect them from the Assad
regime.

Ziyadah, a member of the Syrian National Council, said the opposition
was lobbying for a United Nations Security Council resolution that would
establish a no-fly zone over Syria. He said the opposition was also pressing
the international community to approve the formation of a buffer zone along
the Syrian border with Turkey as a haven for defecting soldiers.

The sources said the United States, which withdrew its ambassador from
Damascus on Oct. 22, was pressing other NATO allies for military
intervention in Syria in an effort to oust Assad. They said Turkey has also
agreed to host any NATO operations as well as establish a buffer along the
Syrian border.

“We consider the ambassador’s withdrawal a strongly-worded American
warning to Damascus and the prelude for an imminent American escalation to
curb the massacres that are committed against the Syrian people after
concluding the Libyan matter and turning to the Syrian dossier,” Ziyadah,
director of the Syrian Strategic Studies Center, said.

The sources said the opposition leadership was heartened by the
assertion by U.S. Sen. John McCain that the international community could
soon examine the feasibility of a no-fly zone similar to that imposed by
NATO over Libya since March. They said the no-fly zone would harm the
Assad regime and hasten the pace of defections from the military.

A no-fly zone was also expected to significantly bolster the growing
rebel forces, many of them comprised of defectors from Assad’s military. The
sources said the protest against Assad was giving way to armed operations
amid the regime crackdown that has killed more than 3,600 people.

“I believe there are two reasons why demonstrations will significantly
diminish,” opposition activist Louay Hussein said. “First, the violent
oppression by the authorities recently and second, the increase in the
number of armed operations by groups opposed to the authorities such as the
Free Syrian Army. Moreover, I worry that if we fail to reach a homegrown
settlement of the conflict very quickly, we will clearly witness different aspects of a civil war in the near future.”

Israel is seeing its first ever crisis of confidence between a large normally docile civilian population and the heads of the armed forces.Mayors and local council heads representing the three quarters of-a-million inhabitants of the southern towns of Beersheba, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Kiryat Gat and Gan Yavneh, announced Sunday night, Oct. 31, that they don’t believe the army’s claim the missile offensive besetting them since Saturday is over.

Their schools stayed closed Monday, Oct. 31, in defiance of Home Front Command orders to lift the security restrictions that were imposed Saturday, when eight Israeli towns were pounded by scores of missiles, causing one death, dozens of injuries, substantial damage and the disruption of lives.

After a decade of missile violence from Gaza, the people still living there are saying enough is enough. They are fed up with being told that the military and powers-that-be know best how to handle the terrorism from the Gaza Strip. The missiles start flying whenever it pleases the Gazan Palestinians, a recurring blight which has seriously stunted the region’s development.

Analysts attribute this newfound combativeness to seven causes.

Conflicting statements from Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the army chiefs. Whereas Netanyahu stated Sunday that there is no ceasefire, army officers informed the South that a truce is in force and only needs time to take hold.

 An Egyptian-brokered ceasefire was announced as going into effect Sunday morning, Oct. 30 at 0600 hours (after more than 35 missiles were fired Saturday). That whole day, the Palestinians continued their attacks which they divided into two stages: Soon after the 0600 deadline, they shot 15 Grads and mortar rounds into Israel and paused. In the evening, other round of 9 Qassam missiles hit Ashkelon regional council and Eshkol district.

 The Iron Dome batteries, designed by Israel to intercept short-range rockets, failed to stop any Sunday, starting a wave of rumors across the South.

Few heeded the words of ex-security officers turned pundits who explained that even wonder systems have mechanical breakdowns. After the IDF issued a bulletin asserting the Jihad Islami had used “innovative firing technology” - without specifying what it was - many assumed that the Iron Dome had been neutralized - not by the technologically-challenged Palestinian extremists, but by specialist officers sent to Gaza but their masters in Tehran.

The brief television appearance of Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, answering a question with the words: “We shall do what needs to be done.” As he spoke, sirens sounded and missiles and mortar shells exploded  in Ashkelon, Sderot and other locations abutting on the Gaza Strip.

As Sunday wore on, the lack of clarity over government intentions deepened . The population realized that no substantial military operation was planned and their trouble was there to stay.  A new truce deadline was said to be scheduled for  2200 Sunday night. The Palestinians chose that hour to resume their attacks on Ashkelon regional council and Eshkol district.

As Monday morning, Oct. 31 dawned with no sign that the radical jihad Islami intended to hold its fire, Home Front Minister Mattan Vilnai aired his first message to the South:

“This round is over,” he said. “It was the work of the Jihad Islami alone. Hamas, which as Gaza Strip rulers are responsible, stood aside.”

Military sources: This is a further Netanyahu government step to relieve Hamas of the burdens of responsibility for the violence emanating from its territory.

This anomalous situation arose from an unsatisfactory exchange between Jerusalem and Cairo. Egypt informed Jerusalem it had managed to persuade Jihad Islami to halt its missile offensive but not to stop its fellow radical Palestinian groups in the Gaza from shooting or even withhold the missiles for them to continue their assaults.

The prime minister and defense minister were reluctant to admit to the public that they had placed their reliance for the security of southern Israel on the military rulers of Egypt - and then only with partial success.

Community leaders in the south are preparing to take a leaf out of two popular campaigns which managed in recent weeks to shock the Netanyahu government out of its complacence: This week, 19 new bills were put before the Knesset’s winter session in response to the demands of the Social Justice movement; and last week, the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit’s release was achieved, partly as a result of popular pressure.

Several community leaders warned that the South is now on the march to finally break the devastating cycle of ceasefires imposed and violated at the convenience of the Palestinian aggressors and force the government and army to root out the plague of the Palestinian missiles once and for all.

 A vampire-like bacteria Micavibrio aeruginosavorus that leeches onto specific other bacteria - including certain human pathogens - has the potential to serve as a living antibiotic for a range of infectious diseases, a new study indicates.

The bacterium, , was discovered to inhabit wastewater nearly 30 years ago, but has not been extensively studied because it is difficult to culture and investigate using traditional microbiology techniques. However, biologists in the University of Virginia’s College of Arts & Sciences, Martin Wu and graduate student Zhang Wang, have decoded its genome and are learning “how it makes its living,” Wu said.

The bacterium “makes its living” by seeking out prey-certain other bacteria-and then attaching itself to its victim’s cell wall and essentially sucking out nutrients. Unlike most other bacteria, which draw nutrients from their surroundings, M. aeruginosavorus can survive and propagate only by drawing its nutrition from specific prey bacteria. This kills the prey-making it a potentially powerful agent for destroying pathogens.

One bacterium it targets is Pseudomonas aeruginosavorus, which is a chief cause of serious lung infections in cystic fibrosis patients.

His study, detailing the DNA sequence of M. aeruginosavorus, is published online in the journal BMC Genomics. It provides new insights to the predatory lifestyle of the bacterium and a better understanding of the evolution of bacterial predation in general.

“We used cutting-edge genomic technology in our lab to decode this bacterium’s genome,” Wu said. “We are particularly interested in the molecular mechanisms that allow it to hunt for and attack prey. This kind of investigation would have been extremely difficult and expensive to do only a few years ago.”

He noted that overuse of traditional antibiotics, which work by either inhibiting bacteria propagation or interfering with cell wall formation, are creating so-called “super bugs” that have developed resistances to treatment strategies. He suggests that new approaches are needed for attacking pathogens without building up their resistance

 A 19-year-old man is in a Galveston, Texas jail awaiting psychiatric evaluation after he broke into a woman’s home and tried to suck her blood claiming he was a 500 - year -old vampire.

An asteroid the size of an aircraft carrier will fly near Earth on Nov. 8. While there is no danger of it hitting the planet, a Purdue asteroid impact expert says a similar-sized object hitting Earth would result in a 4,000-megaton blast, magnitude 7.0 earthquake and, should it strike in the deep ocean, 70-foot-high tsunami waves 60 miles from the splashdown site.

NASA scientists reported this week that the asteroid 2005 YU55 will pass between the Earth and the moon and come within 201,000 miles of Earth on its closest approach.

 Jay Melosh, an expert in impact cratering and a distinguished professor of earth and atmospheric sciences, physics, and aerospace engineering at Purdue, said the asteroid’s orbit and trajectory mean there is no chance of an impact.

 “What is unique about this asteroid flyby is that we were aware of it well in advance,” Melosh said. “Before about 1980 we wouldn’t know about an asteroid of this size until it was already making a close pass, but now it is unlikely that such an asteroid will approach the Earth without our knowledge.”

 NASA’s Near Earth Object, or NEO, program celebrated a milestone earlier this year by announcing that current search programs have discovered more than 90 percent of near-Earth objects more than six-tenths of a mile in diameter. A larger number of smaller objects have yet to be found, however.

 Spacewatch, a program created to discover and track all large asteroids crossing the Earth’s orbit, discovered YU55 in 2005. This close approach has been expected since then, he said.

Melosh used the asteroid impact effects calculator he developed to estimate what would happen if the asteroid, which is a quarter mile in diameter, hit the Earth. The calculator, “Impact: Earth!” allows anyone to calculate potential comet or asteroid damage.

Users first enter a few parameters, such as the diameter of the approaching object, its density, velocity, angle of entry and where it will hit the Earth.

The site then estimates the consequences of its impact, including the atmospheric blast wave, ground shaking, size of tsunami generated, fireball expansion, distribution of debris and size of the crater produced. The calculator is available here.

For example, YU55 would strike with a velocity of 11 miles per second. Although it would begin to disintegrate as it passed through the atmosphere, the fragments would strike in a compact cluster that would blast out a crater 4 miles in diameter and 1,700 feet deep, Melosh said.

Sixty miles away from the impact site the heat from the fireball would cause extensive first-degree skin burns, the seismic shaking would knock down chimneys and the blast wave would shatter glass windows.

If YU55 were to strike a large city like Chicago, it would obliterate the entire city and leave few survivors. Fortunately, the chance of a large impact targeted on a city is very small, he said.

According to NASA, the last time an asteroid this size came close to Earth was in 1976, and the next known approach of such a large asteroid will be in 2028.

The most recent impact of this size is not known, but there are about 20 similar craters known in the geologic record, including the Wetumka crater in Alabama and the Rock Elm crater in Wisconsin.

Of the known large craters, the most recent are the six-mile-wide Bosumtwi crater in Ghana, which is about 1 million years old, and the nine-mile-diameter Zhamanshin crater in Kazakhstan, which is about 900,000 years old, Melosh said.

“Impacts from asteroids of this size are very rare,” he said. “They occur about once every 100,000 years, so the chances of an actual collision with an asteroid like YU55 is about 1 percent in the next thousand years. Apophis, a similar-sized asteroid about one-third of a mile in diameter is the biggest threat in our near future. It has a tiny chance of striking the Earth in 2036.”

Melosh is a co-author of a 2010 NRC report “Defending Planet Earth” that explores the feasibility of detecting all Earth-crossing asteroids down to a diameter of 140 meters, or about one-tenth of a mile, and of ways to mitigate their hazard.

The Ministry of Defence believes the US may decide to fast-forward plans for targeted missile strikes at some key Iranian facilities. British officials say that if Washington presses ahead it will seek, and receive, UK military help for any mission, despite some deep reservations within the coalition government. Left unsaid in the expose’ is that the U. S. paid 80% of all the UK cost for the recent Libyan campaign.

In anticipation of a potential attack, British military planners are examining where best to deploy Royal Navy ships and submarines equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles over the coming months as part of what would be an air- and sea-launched campaign.

The Guardian has spoken to a number of Whitehall and defence officials over recent weeks who said Iran was once again becoming the focus of diplomatic concern after the revolution in Libya.

They made clear the US president, Barack Obama, has no wish to embark on a new and provocative military venture before next November’s US election. But they warned the calculus could change because of mounting anxiety over intelligence gathered by western agencies, and the more belligerent posture that Iran appears to have been taking. The pragmatic know that Obama will do whatever he thinks necessary to get reelected regardless of the consequences. Iran is pushed full speed to a nuclear warhead believing that will emasculate anyd such threat of an attack on it by the U. S., its allies and/or Israel.

One senior Whitehall official said the regime had proved “surprisingly resilient” in the face of sanctions, and sophisticated attempts by the west to cripple its nuclear enrichment programme had been less successful than first thought.

He said Iran appeared to be “newly aggressive - and we are not quite sure why”, citing three recent assassination plots on foreign soil that the intelligence agencies say were co-ordinated by elements in Tehran.

On top of that, the agencies now believe Iran has restored all the capability it lost in a sophisticated cyber-attack last year.

The Stuxnet computer worm, thought to have been engineered by the Americans and Israelis, sabotaged many of the centrifuges the Iranians were using to enrich uranium.

Up to half of Iran’s centrifuges were disabled by Stuxnet or were thought too unreliable to work, but diplomats believe this capability has now been recovered, and the International Atomic Energy Authority believes it may even be increasing. Other sources believe Iran has assembled warheads sans fissile materials and bombs can be assembled within hours of sufficient enriched material being available.

Ministers have also been told that the Iranians have been moving some new, more efficient centrifuges into the heavily fortified military base dug beneath a mountain at the city of Qom.

The concern is that the centrifuges, which can be used to enrich uranium for use in weapons, are now so well protected within the site that missile strikes may not be able to reach them. The senior Whitehall source said the Iranians appeared to be shielding “material and capability” inside the base.

Another Whitehall official, with knowledge of Britain’s military planning, said that within the next 12 months Iran may have hidden all the material it needs to continue a covert weapons programme inside fortified bunkers. He said this had necessitated the UK’s planning being taken to a new level.

“Beyond [12 months], we couldn’t be sure our missiles could reach them,” the source said. “So the window is closing, and the UK needs to do some sensible forward planning. The US could do this on their own but they won’t. So we need to anticipate being asked to contribute. We had thought this would wait until after the US election next year, but now we are not so sure. President Obama has a big decision to make in the coming months because he won’t want to do anything just before an election.”

Another source added there was “no acceleration towards military action by the US, but that could change”. Next spring could be a key decision-making period, the source said.

The MoD has a specific team considering the military options against Iran. The Guardian has been told that planners expect any campaign to be predominantly waged from the air, with some naval involvement, using missiles such as the Tomahawks, which have a range of 800 miles. There are no plans for a ground invasion, but “a small number of special forces” may be needed on the ground, too.

The RAF could also provide air-to-air refuelling and some surveillance capability, should it be required. British officials say any assistance would be cosmetic: the US could act on its own but would prefer not to.

An MoD spokesman said: “The British government believes that a dual track strategy of pressure and engagement is the best approach to address the threat from Iran’s nuclear programme and avoid regional conflict. We want a
negotiated solution - but all options should be kept on the table.”

The MoD says there are no hard-and-fast blueprints for conflict but insiders concede that preparations at headquarters and at the Foreign Office have been under way for some time.

One official said: “I think that it is fair to say that the MoD is constantly making plans for all manner of international situations. Some areas are of more concern than others.

“It is not beyond the realms of possibility that people at the MoD are thinking about what we might do should something happen on Iran. It is quite likely that there will be people in the building who have thought about what we would do if commanders came to us and asked us if we could support the US. The context for that is straightforward contingency planning.”

Washington has been warned by Israel against leaving any military action until it is too late. Western intelligence agencies say Israel will demand that the US act if Jerusalem believes its own military cannot launch successful attacks to stall Iran’s nuclear programme. A source said the “Israelis want to believe that they can take this stuff out”, and will continue to agitate for military action if Iran continues to play hide and seek.

It is estimated that Iran, which has consistently said it is interested only in developing a civilian nuclear energy programme, already has enough enriched uranium for between two and four nuclear weapons.

Experts believe it could be another two years before Tehran has a ballistic missile delivery system. British officials admit to being perplexed by what they regard as Iran’s new aggressiveness, saying that they have been shown convincing evidence that Iran was behind the murder of a Saudi diplomat in Karachi in May, as well as the audacious plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington, which was uncovered last month. “There is a clear dotted line from Tehran to the plot in Washington,” said one.

The International Atomic Energy Authority is due to publish its latest report on Iran this month. Earlier this year, it reported that it had evidence Tehran had conducted work on a highly sophisticated nuclear triggering technology that could only be used for setting off a nuclear device. It also said it was “increasingly concerned about the possible existence in Iran of past or current undisclosed nuclear-related activities involving military-related organisations, including activities related to the development of a nuclear payload for a missile.”

Last year, the UN security council imposed a fourth round of sanctions on Iran to try to deter Tehran from pursuing any nuclear ambitions.

Last weekend, the New York Times reported that the US was looking to build up its military presence in the region, with one eye on Iran. According to the paper, the US is considering sending more naval warships to the area, and is seeking to expand military ties with the six nations in the Gulf Co-operation Council: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

More and more Catholics are going into the confessional saying ” You first father.”

Backyard Skeptics, another misguided atheist group, is unveiled a billboard in Orange County, California with a picture of Thomas Jefferson next to a quotation that they attribute to him.  The quotation reads, “I do not find in Christianity one redeeming feature, it is founded on fables and mythology.”

The skeptic group is already coming under attack by Christians and conservatives claiming that Jefferson never said or wrote what Backyard Skeptics attribute to him. When questioned about the authenticity of the quotation, the group’s director, Bruce Gleason, admitted that they had not verified the quotation before paying for the billboard

Gleason also admitted that the Jefferson Library Collection in Monticello is the leading authority on Jefferson and his quotations. And it turns out that the Jefferson Library Collection has no record of it.  They do list it on their website, but it is listed in a section of dubious quotations.

Raising the quotation’s origin brings one to a book Six Historic Americans by John E. Remsburg.  According to Remsburg’s book, the quotation came from a letter written by Jefferson to a Dr. Woods. Yet, the Jefferson Library Collection has no record of a Dr Woods or of Jefferson ever writing to such a person.

Faced with the information on the dubious origin of the quotation, Backyard Skeptics are accepting Remsburg’s version to be accurate and will not take any action to alter or remove the quotation from the board.

I would strongly urge Backyard Skeptics and others who claim Jefferson was a deist to do some further research into his writings. Keep in mind that a deist believes that God created everything and then has no involvement in His creation.

I contend that Jefferson was not a deist but did believe in God, although some of his views on Christianity were quite liberal as are many in the church today. Jefferson was not an atheist, so it’s surprising that an atheist group would use him to support their cause. Here are some quotations from Jefferson along with the references. Note his use of the Bible, God’s providence, and prayer (”supplications”) for political guidance:

On October 30, 1961 the Soviet Union exploded the most powerful thermo nuclear bomb ever detonated at 50 megatons a thousand four hundred times more powerful than the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs. Even then its yield was reduced by half to reduce radioactive fallout that eventually ringed the globe.

The blast punctuated the Berlin Crisis of 1961 (4 June - 9 November 1961) and was the last major politico-military European incident of the Cold War about the occupational status of the German capital city, Berlin, and of post-World War II Germany. The U.S.S.R. provoked the Berlin Crisis with an ultimatum demanding the withdrawal of Western armed forces from West Berlin-culminating with the city’s de facto partition with the East German erection of the Berlin Wall.

A board of county commissioners in North Carolina is asking the Supreme Court for help: Its members don’t believe they should have to forbid volunteers from mentioning the name of Jesus in prayers offered before their meetings.

But the American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for Separation of Church and State are standing by their victory in a U.S. circuit court decision that states even “a solitary reference to Jesus Christ” in invocations before the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners’ meetings could do “violence to the pluralistic and inclusive values that are a defining feature of American public life.”

Furthermore, wrote Judge James Harvie Wilkinson III in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals majority opinion, legislative invocations offered in Jesus’ name are inherently “sectarian” and thus should be censored lest they make some attendees feel “uncomfortable, unwelcome and unwilling to participate in … public affairs.”

But the board disagrees, and with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund is asking the Supreme Court to trump Wilkinson’s ruling.

“America’s founders opened public meetings with prayer; this county simply wants to allow its citizens to do the same,” said ADF Senior Counsel David Cortman in a statement. “We trust the U.S. Supreme Court will want to review this case because of the long history in America of offering prayers before public meetings. Public officials shouldn’t be coerced into censoring the prayers of those invited to offer them just because secularist groups don’t like people praying according to their own conscience.”

Scott Rasmussen noted in WSJ that “it would be wise for all Republicans to remember that their team didn’t win (in 2010), the other team lost. Heading into 2012, voters will remain ready to vote against the party in power unless they are given a reason not to do so.”    

Sons and daughters of British monarchs will have an equal right to the throne under changes to the United Kingdom’s succession laws agreed to last Friday.

The leaders of the 16 Commonwealth countries that have the queen as head of state approved the changes unanimously at a Commonwealth of Nations summit in Australia. The individual governments of those 16 countries still must agree to the changes for them to take effect.

 The constitutional changes would mean a first-born girl has precedence over a younger brother. They also mean that a future British monarch would be allowed to marry a Catholic.(see Gunpowder Plot below)

The laws would apply to any future children of Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, who married this year.

 The Dunpowder Plot was to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of England’s Parliament on 5 November 1605, as the prelude to a popular revolt against the Protestant king by radical Jesuit lead Catholics. Afterward James’s nine-year-old daughter, Princess Elizabeth, was to be installed as the Catholic head of state. It is celebrated in UK as Guy Fawkes Day named for one of the plotters who was captured with 36 barrels of gun powder in Parliament’s basement the night before.

When a 7-year-old Colorado child wants to join the Girl Scouts it would seem like a no brainer except the child has “boy parts” and a local leader said “no.” According to the boy’s mother he is and has been only interested in Girl things.

The Girl Scouts of Colorado does allow people with boy parts to join its troops, as long as the child is truly transgendered — meaning the child identifies as a girl, and the family identifies the child as a girl.

 ”We feel it is important to include all girls, so when a family says, ‘This is my daughter and she wants to be a Girl Scout,’ we are not going to question that,” Rachelle Trujillo, vice president of communications for Girl Scouts of Colorado told The LA Times.

There are only about 30,000 members of the Girl Scouts in Colorado now, and it is unclear how many have “boy parts ” but it seems there are those.

In a couple years those boy parted members could present some interesting challenges on overnighters or even in swimming pool showers. If the mother insists the Girl Scouts face a challemge. So far the Girl Scout have no said how many transgendered member and leaders it has on its membership rolls.

 Child psychologist and lawyers will have a field day with his one.

 Support for ObamaCare is at an alltime low of just 34% approving with over half (51%) disapproving of it.

Crosses in every room at Washingon D.C.’s 125-year old Catholic University of America are a human rights violation that prevent Muslim students from praying.

That’s the complaint to the Washington, D.C. Office of Human Rights filed by a professor from rival George Washington University across town.

GWU Law School Professor John Banzhaf takes the Catholic institution to task for acting ”probably with malice” against Muslim students in a 60-page complaint that cites ”offensive” Catholic imagery all over the Catholic school, which he says hinder Muslims from praying.

Baffled Catholic University officials say they have never received a complaint from any of the schools Muslim students.

Banzhaf, who already has a pending lawsuit against the university over ending its policy of allowing mixed-gender dormitories and has a history of filing civil rights suits on such topics as childhood obesity and smoking, filed the complaint alleging that Muslim students are not given their own prayer rooms.

He alleges that the university, “does not provide space - as other universities do - for the many daily prayers Muslim students must make, forcing them instead to find temporarily empty classrooms where they are often surrounded by Catholic symbols which are incongruous to their religion,” according to the Tower, Catholic University’s student newspaper. 

The complaint further objects that Muslims must pray at the school’s chapels “and at the cathedral that looms over the entire campus - the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.”

A spokesperson for the human rights office said they are investigating Banzhaf’s complaint - and the inquiry could take as long as six months.

“This attorney is really turning civil rights on its head,” observed Patrick Reilly of the Cardinal Newman Socity. “He’s using the law for his own discrimination against the Catholic institution and essentially saying Catholic University cannot operate according to Catholic principles.”

The complaint is absurd, writes Thomas Peters on the website CatholicVote.

“Can you imagine a law professor helping Catholic students to sue a Jewish or Muslim school to demand that the schools install crosses, remove their religious symbols, and allow the Catholics to construct a chapel on their property?” wrote Peters. ”Can you imagine the argument being that Jewish and Muslims schools using their religious symbols and following their faith traditions would be described in the legal brief as “offensive”?!

“Normally I would have confidence that this lawsuit will be deemed without merit, but the way things are going these days, I just can’t be sure anymore. Simply  incredible.”

A Russian Company got a $730,000,000 (million) approved loan to a company owned by a Russian billionaire and a friend of Vlad Putin of KGP fame.

Shortly after Obama took office, 84 percent of voters aged 18 to 29 approved of the president, according to Post polling. Earlier this month, that figure had dropped to 52 percent.

And a new poll for the Democratic-leaning polling consortium Democracy Corps showed Obama’s approval among young voters actually slipping below 40 percent, a figure roughly consistent with the rest of the population.)

Like the other key voter blocs that helped deliver the 2012 election for Obama - think African American and Latino voters - young voters have fallen out of love with the president, at least to some extent.

But young voters present even more of a challenge than other key voting blocs for the president. That’s because while black turnout increased substantially in 2008 and Latino voters swung strongly for Obama, young voters did both - coming to the polls in record numbers and swinging hugely for the president.

“They are such a key target to our success, including young minority voters, especially Hispanics,” said Democratic pollster John Anzalone.

In the 2008 election, the final tally among 18-to-29-year-olds was 66 percent for Obama - a full 12 points more Democratic than in any presidential election in the past four decades. Young voters accounted for about 8 million of Obama’s 10 million-vote margin in the popular vote over Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

In no other demographic group did Obama so outperform his Democratic predecessors. And that makes this voter bloc hugely important to his reelection chances.

It also makes replicating what happened in 2008 with young voters very difficult.

Thursday a CIA drone fired six missiles at a convoy killing four top Taliban terrorists in Pakistan. Because Pakistan didn’t whine we can assume thay tacitly approved.

Two weeks have gone by since Obama accused Iran of instigating a foiled plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington last April. Yet neither the US nor Saudi Arabia has done anything about it - even at the UN.
Friday, Oct. 21, Obama reaffirmed that all US soldiers will be brought home from Iraq by the end of the year. Two days later, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pledged in Tajikistan: “To countries in the region, especially Iraq’s neighbors, we want to emphasize that American will stand with our allies and friends, including Iraq, in defense of our common security and interests.”

 She spoke as Obama was preparing to pull out of Iraq, leaving in Baghdad a government and national army incapable of defending the country against widening cycles of terror, headed by a prime minister under Tehran’s thumb and more than 30,000 armed members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ terrorist arm, al Qods Brigades, deployed there.
Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki is so completely in thrall to Iran that he was afraid to accede to Washington’s insistent demand for immunity to be extended to at least 5,000 US soldiers remaining in Iraq, although left on his own he would have been inclined to do so.
The eight-year US military presence in Iraq ends therefore leaving Iran sitting pretty on its two key strategic goals:

1. The exit of American soldiers, whose presence in Iraq since the 2003 invasion was deemed in Tehran a continuous threat to its borders. US military involvement in Afghanistan is seen in the same light.

2. A weak Shiite-led government in place in Baghdad, heavily dependent on Tehran’s will. Torn by strife among Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds, Iraq is in no state to obstruct Iran’s hegemonic plans for the Persian Gulf and Syria.

The Iranian regime’s right hand for achieving those goals was - and is - Al Qods commander Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the man also accused by Washington of masterminding the assassination plot.

Washington is well aware of Soleimani’s capacity for interfering with American interests. Indeed he crows about it.Last July, US sources leaked a message he posted in 2008 to Gen. David Petraeus, then head of US Central Command and now CIA Director:

 ”General Petraeus, you should know that I, Qassem Suleimani, control the policy for Iran with respect to Iraq, Lebanon, Gaza and Afghanistan. And indeed, the ambassador in Baghdad is a Quds Force member. The individual who’s going to replace him is a Quds Force member.”

 He was flaunting his control of Baghdad at American expense.  Since then, he has expanded this control, Military sources report, by injecting 30,000 al Qods fighting personnel into Iraq, all trained in guerrilla tactics to the standards of Western and Middle East elite units.

 At least half are deployed in Baghdad in the guise of bodyguard units Iraqi government members and political figures have hired from local firms. Most of the Shiite figures in government and parliament are now using al Qods details for protection. This makes the easily vulnerably to manipulation from Tehran.

 Today, Al Qods has the run of Baghdad’s Green Zone, the top-security enclave built a cost of billions of American dollars to keep the US embassy and high commands in Iraq and its seat of government safe from terrorist bombs.
After the US military drawdown in just over two months, the 16,000 US embassy staffers remain in the Green Zone, including 5,000 security officers from civilian contractors.

 They will stand eyeball to eyeball with a like number of al Qods operatives defending the pro-Iranian Iraqi government. It is on this jarring note that America is about to end its war in Iraq. 

Turkey already has troops in the ground in the North. Sytria will takes its ite out of the West and Iran will get the rest after some perfunctory haggling.

The American phoenix is slowly rising again. Within five years or so, the US will be well on its way to self-sufficiency in fuel and energy. Manufacturing will have closed the labour gap with China in a clutch of key industries. The current account might even be in surplus, says a column in the UK Telegraph.

Meanwhile, the China-US seesaw is about to swing the other way. Offshoring is out, ‘re-inshoring’ is the new fashion.

“Made in America, Again” - a report this month by Boston Consulting Group - said Chinese wage inflation running at 16pc a year for a decade has closed much of the cost gap. China is no longer the “default location” for cheap plants supplying the US.

A “tipping point” is near in computers, electrical equipment, machinery, autos and motor parts, plastics and rubber, fabricated metals, and even furniture.

“A surprising amount of work that rushed to China over the past decade could soon start to come back,” said BCG’s Harold Sirkin.

The gap in “productivity-adjusted wages” will narrow from 22pc of US levels in 2005 to 43pc (61pc for the US South) by 2015. Add in shipping costs, reliability woes, technology piracy, and the advantage shifts back to the US.

The list of “repatriates” is growing. Farouk Systems is bringing back assembly of hair dryers to Texas after counterfeiting problems; ET Water Systems has switched its irrigation products to California; Master Lock is returning to Milwaukee, and NCR is bringing back its ATM output to Georgia. NatLabs is coming home to Florida.

Boston Consulting expects up to 800,000 manufacturing jobs to return to the US by mid-decade, with a multiplier effect creating 3.2m in total. This would take some sting out of the Long Slump.

As Cleveland Fed chief Sandra Pianalto said last week, US manufacturing is “very competitive” at the current dollar exchange rate. Whether intended or not, the Fed’s zero rates and $2.3 trillion printing blitz have brought matters to an abrupt head for China.

Fed actions confronted Beijing with a Morton’s Fork of ugly choices: revalue the yuan, or hang onto the mercantilist dollar peg and import a US monetary policy that is far too loose for a red-hot economy at the top of the cycle. Either choice erodes China’s wage advantage. The Communist Party chose inflation.

Foreign exchange effects are subtle. They take a long to time play out as old plant slowly runs down, and fresh investment goes elsewhere. Yet you can see the damage to Europe from an over-strong euro in foreign direct investment (FDI) data.

Flows into the EU collapsed by 63p from 2007 to 2010 (UNCTAD data), and fell by 77pc in Italy. Flows into the US rose by 5pc.

Volkswagen is investing $4bn in America, led by its Chattanooga Passat plant. Korea’s Samsung has begun a $20bn US investment blitz. Meanwhile, Intel, GM, and Caterpillar and other US firms are opting to stay at home rather than invest abroad.

Europe has only itself to blame for the current “hollowing out” of its industrial base. It craved its own reserve currency, without understanding how costly this “exorbitant burden” might prove to be.

China and the rising reserve powers have rotated a large chunk of their $10 trillion stash into EMU bonds to reduce their dollar weighting. The result is a euro too strong for half of EMU.

The European Central Bank has since made matters worse (for Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France) by keeping rates above those of the US, UK, and Japan. That has been a deliberate policy choice. It let real M1 deposits in Italy contract at a 7pc annual rate over the summer. May it live with the consequences.

The trade-weighted dollar has been sliding for a decade, falling 37pc since 2001. This roughly replicates the post-Plaza slide in the late 1980s, which was followed - with a lag - by 3pc of GDP shrinkage in the current account deficit. The US had a surplus by 1991.

Charles Dumas and Diana Choyleva from Lombard Street Research argue that this may happen again in their new book “The American Phoenix”.

The switch in advantage to the US is relative. It does not imply a healthy US recovery. The global depression will grind on as much of the Western world tightens fiscal policy and slowly purges debt, and as China deflates its credit bubble.

Yet America retains a pack of trump cards, and not just in sixteen of the world’s top twenty universities.

It is almost the only economic power with a fertility rate above 2.0 - and therefore the ability to outgrow debt - in sharp contrast to the demographic decay awaiting Japan, China, Korea, Germany, Italy, and Russia.

Europe’s EMU soap opera has shown why it matters that America is a genuine nation, forged by shared language and the ancestral chords of memory over two centuries, with institutions that ultimately work and a real central bank able to back-stop the system.

The 21st Century may be American after all, just like the last.

The feds have OK’d cuts of 10% that are expected to save California $623 million. The state spends $14 billion on Medi-Cal, the state’s Medicaid program. The program is that of last medical resort for 7,600,000 of the poorest Californians ioncluding illegal aliens. Those cuts will mean less and poorer medical care as some doctors refuse to accept Medi-Cal patients because reimbursement is so low is does not cover costs.

 California is reluctant to identify how much is going to undocumented foreigners but some estimates runs as high as 30% or $4,000,000,000 (billion). There have ven been cases where foreign residents cross and recross the border to get free medical care.

Libya has in effect become the main arms supplier of Hamas the radical Muslim group..

Western intelligence sources said the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip has received a huge amount of missiles, rockets and other weapons from Libya since June virtually without limits or restriction.

As reprehernsible as Quadaffi was while in power he bottled up one of this most destructive arsenals on earth.

It is a lesson in unintended consequences and there are lingering doubts that the new Libyan Muslim regime will do anything but facilitate more arms to their Muslim henchmen in Gaza actng as a dagger at Isreal’s throat.

Ironically Quadaffi’s demise could windup igniting a conflagration consuming the region or even more.

The terrorists were shown firing 20 rounds in rapid succession from a Grad multiple rocket launcher mounted on a small truck which then drove off at speed - the same weapon used by Libyan rebels in Sirte.

The Grads were smuggled from Libya under NATO’s nose along with tons of other weapons..

The Hamas terror organization is solely responsible for any terrorist activity emanating from the Gaza Strip,” the Israeli military said on Oct. 27.

This marked the first rocket strike on Israel since it released 477 Palestinians in the first phase of a prisoner deal with Hamas on Oct. 18. The source of the rockets is most likely Libya where thousands of munitions have disappeared. The interim Libyan regime is overtly pro-Muslim.

The Israel Air Force responded to the rocket attack on Ashdod. The military said the air force targeted three “terror activity sites in the central Gaza Strip” as well as a weapons warehouse in the south. “Direct hits were confirmed,” the military said.

A 33-year old Ohio woman teacher has been entenced to four years in prison for seducing four 17 year-old boys even though the age of consent in Ohio is 16. She was sentenced under new statute proecting students from teachers or other authority figures.

Had the woman not been a teacher she could not have been prosecuted.

Regardless she is now a registered sex offender banned for life from teaching or any other  position of authority over youth.

Is Herman Cain the black Bary Goldwater? Cain continues to soar in the polls. In some, he is leading the presumptive front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney. What accounts for Mr. Cain’s meteoric rise? He is the anti-Romney and could save America a small fortune in hair gel.

The media class despises Cain. The establishment GOP and some neoconservatives dismiss him as a lightweight. Both the liberal left and the Beltway right have settled on their preferred Republican nominee: Mr. Romney. The former Massachusetts governor is seen as the “responsible” choice. Mr. Romney is a brainy technocrat.

Cain vows to control spending, streamline regulations and grow the economy. On social issues, especially abortion and homosexual rights, some don’t really believe Mr. Romney’s pro-life, pro-family conversion is genuine. He represents the limp wristed Northeastern wing of the GOP. Many Republicans believe he has the best chance of defeating President Obama in 2012. Yet it also explains the Cain phenomenon. Voters like him because he is someone who speaks his mind without calibrating every word.

Mr. Cain’s visceral appeal is that he is the outsider, the anti-establishment candidate. Unlike Mr. Romney, Mr. Cain is not a conventional politician. On the campaign trail, Mr. Cain’s answers are often not scripted; rather, they are blunt, raw and honest. He is articulate and passionate and uses simple, clear language that resonates with the electorate. In short, he is not a phony.

Plus, and more to the point, Cain erases the impediment facing all those who voted for Obama to avoid being labeled a racist .But, although Cain is not raising nearly enough money to be competitive with either Romney or Obama he is doing better. That is simply not enough

A glib protestors said yesterday that he would sympathyze with Wall Street better once Texas executes a corporation.

He may not see it this way, but he could learn a little about corporate death if he paid just a little more attentions to the financial press over the last several hundred years. Far more corporate deaths reported than maybe he realize, albeit usually not as punishment for committing crimes; for daring to try to make a profit delivering a good or service to the likes of him.

Michael Moore is fat and not so cuddly when he lies about not being part of the 1%. $343,927 annually puts you in the one percent.

Heck, the stocks he denies purchasing and filing taxes on in the past in one of his non profits probably made money he sheltered.

Look at China, what a capitalistic success.

Their form of one party rule and stateism would have floundered into primitive states from whence it came, if it did not let people exercise their greed muscles.

Greed is not good, it is just a part of being human, like fear, like love, like concern, like sweat. Incentives matter if you want progress in human events. If you want a tribal world, kill billions.

Look at Putin in Russia. Without greed to develop oil fields his dream of resurrecting the Soviet sphere would be dead by now.

President Obama has said that jobs must come from the private sector, especially small business and that the role of government is to set the proper conditions for economic activity.

If he believes that he has no idea that he is part of the problem and not the solution to jobs. If he does not really believe that, then he is a dissembler for votes. Government jobs have risen since his presidency and private sector jobs have fallen.

He now quietly signs free trade agreements that he refused to consider in honor of his union bosses.

American academia is good at producing writers, literary critics and historians. It is also good at producing professionals with degrees. But we don’t have a shortage of lawyers and professors. America has a shortage of job creators. And the people who create jobs aren’t traditional professionals, but start-up entrepreneurs.

Lamenting our public school system, incidentally, whose funding per student has doubled while we went backward in graduations and effectiveness, he said:

Somewhere we lost the meaning of “incentive” to “achieve.”

Political pandering has morphed that fine idea of freedom to pursue achievement as is a right.

There never was a right to achieve. Who would even consider such a right?

It is now common to hear something like this: “claim your rights by electing me, I will make them pay their fair share so you get yours.”

The wealthy already pay their fair share and maybe even yours.

Yes they can afford more.

I would tax them more.

But Congress will just spend it for more votes.

In a blatant example of corporate welfare, General Electric is receiving $490 million from the Energy Department to build a wind-energy facility - even though GE has a market capitalization of some $170 billion.

GE and its partners are also getting a $1.06 billion loan guarantee for the Shepherds Flat project in northern Oregon - a guarantee similar to the $529 million one that solar energy firm Solyndra received from the government before it went bankrupt.

One other point to note: GE's CEO Jeffrey Immelt is the head of President Barack Obama's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.

"The Obama administration's loan guarantee for the now-bankrupt Solyndra has garnered lots of attention, but the Shepherds Flat deal is an even better example of corporate welfare," Robert Bryce writes for National Review Online.

"The majority of the funding for the $1.9 billion, 845-megawatt Shepherds Flat wind project is coming courtesy of federal taxpayers," he notes, and "not only is the Energy Department giving GE and its partners a $1.06 billion loan guarantee, but as soon as GE's 338 turbines start turning at Shepherds Flat, the Treasury Department will send the project developers a cash grant of $490 million."

GE and its partners, which include Google, will enjoy an estimated return on equity of 30 percent, while over the past year the average electric utility's return on equity has been around 7 percent, according to Bryce, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and author of "Power Hungry: The Myths of 'Green' Energy and the Real Fuels of the Future."

He asks why the administration is providing subsidies to GE, which paid little or no federal income taxes last year despite earning some $5.1 billion in profits from its American operations.

Wait, there is a lot of that in the US. Might even be American jobs growth in that much maligned sector someday.

Political choices have already demonized our source of strength and cozy warmness on cool nights. So many want to bury ground based energy further than it already is.

The world’s ground based energy sectors, modern versions basically invented in the US, are sufficient in the US to render foreign sabotage/threats/strikes etc more neutral than most believe.

Pure of heart Anti Carbonites dream of forcing a utopian vision on our current grounded economy by political force and demonizing those who now keep us moving from one comfortable place to another.

Peak oil has passed except in the minds of such political utopians and we now have more carbon sources than we need, were they all exploited for use rather than for politics.

So here is an industry segment the government should subsidize, for national security and to create real jobs without having to play fantasy games any more.

Allocate more of our government research moneys to basic science with a hopeful eye to learning how to use nano tubes, their cousins and uncles and aunts in the job of cleaning the unwanted results of harnessing energy from the ground.

Why can nano tech keep your clothes from wrinkling but not catch and or clean up carbon emissions after energy is created and before exhaust is released into the air?
