California Hypocritically Talks New Oil Tax to Stop Legislators Salary Cuts.

Your money must pay my increasing salaryIn what has to be the most politically tone deaf hypocritical proposals yet California’s liberal Assembly want to add billion in new taxes on oil produced in the state. In November 2006 Californians voted down a so-called oil severance tax that would have added “$4 billion in new taxes on oil produced in the state with the stated goal to reduce petroleum consumption by 25%, with research and production incentives for alternative energy, alternative energy vehicles, and it was voted down 55-45%.

Now with a gallon of gasoline at $4.50 and headed higher the idea is being advance again by Assembly Democrats as a way to balance the budget while still spouting platitudes about energy independence, alternative energy, and the like but, it has nothing to do with anything other than filling the already engorged California coffers.

The new proposal is aimed mostly at preventing legislators from having their $130,000 annual salaries (the highest in the nation) cut. In an act of astonishing hypocrisy they are whining about being unable to pay for gasoline to drive to and fro from the state Capitol in Sacramento.

Governor Schwarzenegger jets around commuting almost daily to LA in a private plane so big his wife’s brother is trying to block it from landing at Santa Monica Airport fearing a catastophe. Arnold says he buys carbon credits for his gas gulper plane and Hummer - but that simply adds to his hypocrisy.

Same-sex Marriage and Abortion To Be on California’s Fall Ballot

What is the voters will on this?Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Michigan, New Hampshire, South Carolina , South Dakota and Utah have petitioned California’s Supreme Court to delay implementing it ruling allowing same sex marriages. All except Florida and New Hamphire have constitutional provisions banning such homosexual marriages . Each State would have to determine whether or not they would recognize such marriages likely setting off a maelstrom of litigation.

Governor Schwarzenegger says he supports same-sex marriage putting him at odds with a majority of Califoirnians. That and the state’s inability to act in a fiscally sound way have torpdoed his once sky-high job approval ratings sending him crashng to earth.

If a ballot measure is certified Californians will vote on in November amending its Constitution to ban such marriages the whole thing could be moot. The ballot measure appears ready to be put on the ballot and right now it would pass.

Nationwide a May 21-25 Pew Research poll found Americans oppose same-sex marriage by a 49-38% margin.

Also in California enough signatures have been gathered to require abortionist to notifiy a minor child’s parents before performing an abortion. Right now an abortionist can abort a minor’s fetus without telling the parents. Parents and others say their parental rights are abused and parents have been faced with paying for medical complications because of insufficient and some say even criminal lack of after care. The measure could also be on the November ballot and would be passed according to recent polling.

Is Arnold The Terminator?

He is the TerminatiorCalifornia Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger owns an Austrian M-47 tank and he’s getting it back from an Ohio museum so he can ‘enjoy it’. Californians say he’ll need it along with asbestos underwear unless he stops acting like a Governor and becomes one. Although he continues to have a 63% approval rating among Republicans his overall job approval has sagged to 45%. His approval rating is lowest in the Greater LA region and highest in the inland area according to a mid-month Survey/USA poll.

Kalifornia’s Kamikazi Konservatives Konvene

We Need HelpRemnants of California’s once proud Reagan Republican Party head to San Francisco this weekend for what some are calling the “telephone booth” semiannual state convention. Attendees will debate a platform critics say is nothing more than rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Perhaps the biggest controversy surrounds party GOP financier Larry Dodge’s refusal to bailout the bankrupt party, and his long list of complaints.

Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will be conspicuously absent. Last September, he said the party was “dying at the box office”and he’s done nothing to revive it since as it continues to bleed nearly 10,000 registered voters a month. Schwarzenegger left the state and went to the National Governors Association meeting in Washington DC.

Billionaire State Insurance Commissioner, and champion of the defeat of Proposition 93 the scheme to extend terms of the current legislature, Steve Poisner will speak and be begged for money to avoid the bill collectors. Poisner is reported to be interested in running to replace a disappointing Schwarzenegger who will “term out” in 2010.

LOSING THE REAGAN REVOLUTION IN CALIFORNIA

Real Fiscal ConservativesCalifornia’s Republican Party is in disarray and under overt attack by loyalist many of whom who have simply lost faith in its leadership. It is broke – technically bankrupt and in Chapter 7. The man who would have bailed it out with a $3 million check has written a scathing letter demanding change but did not include a check.

Reports that an Australian citizen was hired by its beleaguered chairman to run the party’s day-to-day functions and may not even have legal status have created a firestorm.

Mike, Arnold, It Takes a Constititutional Amendment

Do we need another Amendment?

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger grace this week’s Time magazine cover, and on Tuesday the two “joked” about forming a presidential ticket. Bloomberg’s was very palsy-walsy with California’s Governor Schwarzenegger as he ripped Washington for various sins. Maybe that explains Arnold’s flip-flop telling the press he refuses to endorse anyone on the eve of the California February 5th primary. Schwarzenegger is term limited. Rumor was he had been eyeing Senator Barbara Boxer’s seat if she does not run for reelection in 2010 but she has announced she will run and she remains very popular so that’s off the table.
