We Join China and the People of Myanmar in their Mourning

Pay It Forward, We are a generous country despite our faultsWe in the United States are devastated by the loss of American lives in Katrina (3000+), Iraq (4000+) and the 9/11 attacks (3000+).

Despite our many faults, including those of government at many levels and at the individual level, we as a country seriously try to value and protect the individual lives of our citizens in ways no other large and diverse country has achieved let along tried. We allocate significant amounts of money and other resources at all levels of government with the attempt to improve and preserve our safety.

The devastation and loss of life in China due to recent earthquakes and by cyclones in neighboring Myanmar (Burma) are difficult for this writer to fathom. Numbers of maybe a 100,000 deaths in each country are being fore casted by those who really do not know but these are their best guesses due to the difficulties of saving and tending to the living.

I for one am proud of the immediate offers of aid and the follow up on those offers by many sources from inside America, including our government, individuals and numerous aid and medical organizations permitted by our freedoms to do so. That China will allow in US help is a step forward in their approach to opening up their country to outsiders even more than recent steps, both big and tentative.

Myanmar unfortunately remains one of those countries ruled by small numbers of powerful people so that no matter what form of government these countries seems to have, their citizens enjoy far less freedoms than we take for granted everyday.

Hillary Losing Champion Liar Title

The nose knowsPinocchiobama – in 1996, Barack Obama’s campaign answered a questionnaire saying he favored bans on manufacturing and selling of guns,Living Lie opposed parental notification of abortions for minors, and opposed the death penalty. When asked about that, Obama threw his campaign staff under the bus, claiming the staff had sent in the questionnaire. He issued a blanket denial that he had ever held those positions. Except that is not true. As Human Events RedState noted, a review of the actual document shows “that [Obama] reviewed the answers closely revising some of the answers in his own handwriting.” Obama claims to be the only one willing to re-engage the Taliban. He faults the Bush Administration for depleting the number of military personnel in Afghanistan and claims we need to increase the number of ground forces to 92,000 troops, something Obama says the Bush administration is opposed to. Funny how Secretary of Defense Robert Gates offered the exact same policy prescription and number of troops back in 2007. Obama said, “John McCain got upset today apparently because I had repeated exactly what he said, which is that we might be there [Iraq] for 100 years if he had his way.” Only, that is another lie. As RedState documented, the Washington Post’s FactCheck, the Annenberg Public Policy Center’s nonpartisan FactCheck.org, and the Columbia Journalism Review all report Obama’s words were grossly misleading. The Annenberg Public Policy Center called Obama’s statement a “serious distortion to the point of rank falsehood.” In Pennsylvania, Obama is running a television ad saying, “I’m Barack Obama. I don’t take money from oil companies or Washingtonlobbyists, and I won’t let them block change anymore.” No federal candidate can accept money from a corporation – no one. But, Obama has cashed $213,000.00 from oil company employees.

Two Tales of Democracy, One Is Real

Transnationals prevent local democracyFidel Castro, accustomed to hypocritizing his own single candidate elections, chose not to continue in his dictatorial role, but did appoint his broker without anyone able to oppose his actions, is an ostensible democratic voting system, but actually a one party system that prevent anyone from really changing leadership. Forces of nature but not of democracy were at work in this change, for democracy has always masqueraded in Cuba but only with heavy make up. Democracy was in no way behind this change of leadership. Hopefully forces of democracy will find a way to grow and bloom in the new regime.

Musharaff in Pakistan seems to have been moved aside

Super Hypocrisy

Super delegates constitute super hypocrisy.

But the Supreme Court has upheld any political parties right to choose their candidate however they want.

IT DOES NOT NEED TO EVEN RESEMBLE DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPALS.

What a crockSo the Republicans have one set of rules for the selection process and the Democrats have another. And the “Party” bosses are indeed the bosses. The processes are fraught with historical baggage including a lot of ways to try to keep the “voter” from making a mistake.

This link bares this in a way I am sure very few really understand, especially those who think their vote counts as much as any other. Bill Clinton has two votes, one counts for next to nothing like any individual vote in a pure democracy with a large population of voters. But the other, additional vote counts as 1 of 800 appointed voters of the just over 2000 required votes to get the Democratic Nomination. Together these 800 or so appointed voters are about 40% of the total required voters. The individual voters like you and I, altogether only count for about 60% of the votes.

What is the Non Partisan, Practical Moral to this Story?

Trade is Spinning

A Dream Team Deal Can Be Made Between Hillary and Barack

UnbeatableI speculated quite some time ago that the Democratic Party could almost lock up the White House if Hillary and Barack were on the ticket together. I believe that even more today with the same caveat that it must be done before too much political damage has been done to each by the other, making a union impossible.

Keith Olberman Gets Carried Away at MSNBC Studio, Choking on Over Lathered Tongue

They are listening, louder, louder! No worries, he’s fine now. Thanks to gravity and hot air.

“You (Mr Bush) are never responsible” was the nicest thing he said but only after a too long, embarrassing diatribe of hate and hubris that dishonors the Barack Obama campaign, I lean toward and he so obviously supports. He got unusually carried away, throwing paper at everyone and yelling not to use any telecom services because THEY are in waiting to get him when he is not looking or when he is or we are looking at dirty pictures or, or, or.

Is a Private Time Table a Time Table or a McCain Dirty Trick?

Are they?Romney evidently agrees that he said - paraphrased, “There is no question Bush and Maliki must have a series of private timetables they speak about (between themselves) but we do not want them (terrorists in Iraq) to wait in the weeds until we are gone”

McCain has characterized that statement as supporting a timetable during the time frame when McCain very publicly campaigned against any kind of time table and for the Surge and against Rumsfeld. Rumsfeld finally fell under the weight of McCains’ continuing criticism.

At the time, many thought he was politically dead because of his support for the very unpopular Surge. How is it, that it seems to have become even more unpopular today because nobody is talking about it

McCain Takes Florida

My predictions right after news outlets declared McCain the winner of all of the Florida delegates:

Rudy will drop out and endorse McCain and settle for Secretary of Defense. Huckabee will stay in and try to become the VP for either McCain or Romney. Romney will resolve to spend more of his personal fortune and keep the financial pressure on McCain. McCain will win if he can spend enough in the next SEVEN DAYS.

Kerry Endorses Barack Obama - Despite Florida for Hills

It's starting to moveThe Obama bandwagon is picking up steam in many quarters and being referred to as the candidate of change by more Democrats every day. There are increasing and not so subtle references to taking the high road, for instance as opposed to Hillary’s pandering in Florida, evidently contrary to informal agreements amongst the candidates due to the delegate problem.

Go Along To Get Along

Fish VenezuelaIn an article in the Wall Street Journal about a thriving capitalist banker who lives amidst confiscatory populism in the current Hugo Hegemony in Venezuela, we can learn a lot about capitalism and survival.

First, we learn that everyone, every country, every social system in the world has one thing in common. And always in common despite rhetoric to the contrary.

Everyone is a Capitalist. Every Country is Capitalistic. Every social and economic system in the world is Capitalistic.

“A Woman in Charge” by Carl Bernstein & The Republicans

A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham Clinton (Vintage)Hillary held center stage tonight Jan 24, 2008 indicating what Carl Bernstein called her in his book “A Lady in Charge.”

Tonight, she was very much “in charge” of the Republican debate. Most candidates were more prepared to campaign against her than other Republicans. They seem to be looking beyond a potential Obama win in South Carolina, to Hill & Bill in the Final Two contest in November.

Mortgage Regulators Still Miss the Opportunity of “Homesteading 2008″

Homes for Homes not InvestmentsEveryone seems to have a plan and non of them are having great impact on the housing problems. That’s mostly because the most intractable part of the problem is that too many houses are overvalued, driven by fog a mirror housing finance that purshed demand for homes beyond the natural real need curve to a speculative demand dynamic and that will not be changed a lot by any plan out there, except possibly this “Homesteaders Act of 2008″

  1. Change the whole deal and keep all current occupants in the house with a troubled mortgage as follows:
    1. Before foreclosure modify the mortgage deal to a profit sharing deal “Homesteading Act of 2008) with the owner occupant by lowering rate so all housing finance cost are less that 33% of gross income.
    2. Foreclose ASAP on non occpant owners and offer financing to the renting occupant as to the
  2. Laws need to be changed to facilite this and formulas for profit sharing must be determined.

IMMEDIATELY send this or talk about it with you political prepresentatives, I have seen NONE talking about this human solution.

Send it to your press outlets and watch them ignor it.

McCain Envy Reigns

Sourh Carolina Envy“We have been sort of like John McCain, but not completely” per Barack Obama? Yes.

Hillary and John Edwards did not question what Barack meant by that sentence, which surely requires some explanation, because they were stumbling over each other to say why they could beat him (McCain).

Mitt & Mike must also have McCain envy right now and be chaffing at the bit to lock horns with McCain in Florida and are no doubt praying for a Super Super Tuesday.

Forecasts that this goes all the way to the convention in Minneapolis are a bit far fetched but the back room deals for VP might .

Duncan Hunter who recently dropped out of the race endorsed Huckabee.

Martin Luther King

Read his own accountAmerica was different in the past. It will be different in the future.

Let’s hope we have unique leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King whose life and accomplishments we honor with an annual holiday. Tomorrow, is that holiday.

MLK was a poet. He chose words that grabbed and touched people deeply. Unfortuately those words were felt by much of white America too slowly back then and in all races too shallowly today.

“None of our Hands are Clean”

Come with Clean HandsObama words as he walks the political and personal line all candidates walk. Sometimes it is called going negative and in most markets most candidate go that way. It is a dicey strategy because it can backfire.

Maybe this was Obama trying to limit damage to his campaign or maybe it is what he really feel and regrets contributing to negativism. Either way the remaining Democratic candidates are doing their best to at least minimize without putting themselves in the wax museum.

Regardless, congratulations to Barack for saying what he did and doing so in a fashion I can easily hear Martin Luther King saying it.

John Edwards is the third man in a two person race.

He did say he got his BUTT kicked in Vegas, and it wasn’t even by George Bush.

Hillary Understands How the West Was Won

Drum by DrumHillary overcame the casino workers endorsement of Obama in Nevada, to secure a real but not overwhelming win. Her voice was strained but she is definitely on a roll in and after the casino state.

After the Clinton and Obama first tier win in Nevada, the other tier of Edwards, Uncommitted and Kucinich picked up a few votes, but the Democratic race is narrowing to Clinton and Obama, with the odds in favor of Hillary and the Clinton machine.

Despite that, the recent political incorrectness over Martin Luther King may be a long shadow on the rivalry to play out next week in the Dem Primaries in South Carolina, then Florida and of course followed by Super Tuesday states.

Non candidates are observing carefully, looking for an opening. Chief amongst them is our very own Chief Hypocrite who is one of the less well know candidates feeling the pull of the disenchanted. The Chief, however, is most worried when he notices that Bill Clinton continues to show enthusiastic support for the “best candidate he (Bill) has ever known”. Even the Chief has limitations.
