I love diversity.
History is full of it and it’s many ironic situations make history so interesting, frustrating, educational, useless, whatever your adjectives are, history has an example to prove you right.
This is one I was waiting for since the day I heard Osama Bin Killed by Seal Team 6 in an operation code named “Geronimo.”
Pakistan’s major sovereign enemy is India, where Indians live. But I am sure that is not the Indians the Navajo Code Talkers, ah, make that what the current special operations code namers meant, those who will no doubt be apologizing soon.
President Obama recently thanked Seal Team 6 for a good job, well done for that successful operation code named “Geronimo.” Successful except for two items, the Jimmy Carter helicopter problem causing most Bin Laden family members to be left to the Pakistan government but the $60 million lost in the crash was offset by money saved on a tape measure.
Simon Moya-Smith, a reporter/blogger for YourHub.com wrote this in The Denver Post:
American Indians expect to be belittled and dehumanized at every turn. We expect to attend schools where the mascot is an Indian named Savage. We expect cutting cultural appropriation by wannabe Indians. But what I, a Lakota, couldn’t have anticipated was the ignorance and naivete of President Barack Obama, his administration and the U.S. military.
Perhaps sensitivity training is in order for our Chief Organizer as his prior training may be fading. One thing for sure, last week President Obama became very comfortable with the words “Commander in Chief.” Those could be two of many reasons why the Progressives are so upset. But not upset enough to vote for anyone else in 2012.
Conservatives are upset that he got to bag the Bin instead of one of theirs. Perhaps that is why they are circulating and automatically believing the rumors that Obama wanted to pass on this adventure involving invading a sovereign ally, fearing failure and political push back from his own or revenge from any number of anti US groups, and that CIA Director cum Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta twisted his arm to make the decision.
One in 11.8 quadrillion are the odds I attach to the Obama reticence rumor being true.
Personally, I hate every example of left and right and back and forth and sideways political misleading soundbites which are narcissistically useful to harm the opposition but just plain societally harmful techniques every political party and advocacy group rationalizes by phrases such as “politics is a contact sport” or “all is fair in love and war and politics.” I say, Hypocrite Crap or HS same as BS. The same smelly stuff by any name.
Sara Palin set back a simple rational idea last year with such a technique with a short catchy phrase about “death panels”. Until that time, the right had been cautiously upfront and taking hits for being willing all along to admit that rational reasonable rationing of expensive health care especially costly high tech advanced techniques at any age but especially at end of life, are and always have been and must be part of our policy in the future. But what ever it takes for the cause according to Sara who did not invent the technique but mastered it well.
Enough of that for now.
In a related vein, I am off to review the underground viral video titled “The Cowboy Obama Ride” and subtitled, “Ending the Osama Hide”.
“Don’t cry for me Pakistan”, says Osama, “for now I’m with my new set of 20 some virgins, although fewer than I had on earth.”
In a more serious vein, my sincere apologies for mostly unintentional offenses to all current citizens of American Indian descent, many of whom are also citizens of various sovereign nations withing US borders into which the early European Americans rounded them up and sent them to. After it’s early foothold east of the Mississippi, the great American national westward expansion under the Manifest Destiny Policy ended the reign of many individual tribes of small numbers who enjoyed large areas all to themselves. Enough so they could move on to new virgin digs when the river was polluted and over fished or low on rainfall. Hard to do that today what with the EPA and all as wel as our new found environmental sensitivity required due to population growth, technology and consumersism which I am unwilling right now to do anything drastic about.
I am proud of America, all the while understanding that every organized sovereign country on earth took land and power and set aside in one way or another, previous occupants. Who did the American Indians take land from? Each other quite often and no doubt earlier tribal communities and not likely by negotiations. Despite the lore and romanticism about simplicy of Indian spiritual life, revering the land and using every part of the buffalo with no waste I know it had something to do with necessity, because they had no stores to shop in nor green backs to spend.
All of us, in every nation on earth, should take sensitivity training; Blacks, Whites, Browns, Yellows and every combination in between or imaginable will be required for a change of history and hearts to minimize the need for our Commander in Chief to make such hard decisions, risking life, treasure and allies.
I only want to revisit wars of the past.
One final ragtag thought. Have you ever wondered if Al qaeda et al, has successfully infiltrated cells into those surrounded hurting nations?
