Republicans had all but tallied a win in Delaware’s U. S. Senate race until Tea Party backed and Sarah Palin endorsed Christine O’Donnell, 41, won the GOP nomination.

After initially saying she would be shunned Republicans grudgingly offered support to her over the past few days hoping that she/they could somehow defeat the Democrat  take the Senate seat there.

Then things got worse when her 1999 confession that she “dabbled into witchcraft” went viral along with an array of other fringy things that prompted Jay Leno to quip that her masturbation ban made the war on drugs look easy.

Her gaffs range from back tax payments to statements about sex, masturbation and lust that she made on MTV’s “Sex in the ’90s.” O’Donnell told talk show host Phil Donahue in 2002, “Condoms will not protect you from AIDS.” Then while appearing on “The O’Reilly Factor” in 2006, O’Donnell called condoms “anti-human.”

She looks more and more like a liability than a nominee, and doesn’t help the Tea Party fight its “wing nuts” label that the left is liberally sprinkling on it. About the best new for Republicans was her cancelling an array of weekend TV talk shows.

Obama has never seen a tax he didn’t like so it is little surprise he is preparing to attend a United Nations summit to endorse “innovative finance mechanisms”-global taxes-to drain even more wealth out of the US economy.

The proposal, popular at the United Nations for decades and long-advocated by Fidel Castro, is called the Tobin Tax and named after Yale University economist James Tobin.  It is sometimes called the Robin Hood tax because it steasl foprm the rich and gives to the poor. Castro’s support is buoyed by the fact that he can skim off hundreds of billions to keep his foundering country afloat.

Steven Solomon, a former staff reporter at Forbes, said in his book, The Confidence Game, that such a proposal “might net some $13 trillion a year…” because it is based on taking a percentage of money from the trillions of dollars exchanged daily in global financial markets a staggering amount..

He is referring to the fact that once such a tax is in place, it could be easily raised to bring in hundreds of billions of dollars or more a year to the UN and other global institutions.

The Tobin Tax is classical Keynesian economics argues that private sector decisions sometimes lead to inefficient macroeconomic outcomes and therefore advocates active policy responses by govbernment and by extension only government has the abilities necessary to manipulate global economics.

By supporting it Obama can be the big wheel he craves so much among the world’s leftists. If Obama, Castro and the U. N. get their way this will effectiovely set up finance, and empower a defacto world government.

Israel increased security last weekend  as Yom Kipur was observed the holy day with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer. A Palestinian office told Jerusalem Post there is no reason for Obama’s optimism. Meanwhile Israeli Defense Forces are being issued the most up-to-date gas masks and chemical weapons defense gear. At the same time Hamas fired phosphorus munitions from Gaza into Israel, and Hizballah is striking US targets in Iraq as sub-contractor for Iran and Syria. Hizballah is spearheading their drive to resuscitate the Eastern Front which threatened Israel in the days of Saddam Hussein. Yet Obama, Clinton and Mitchell remain outwardly giggly as they quest for a pre-election break through.

2010 marks 198th Anniversary of so-called Gerrymandering (redistricting) in which electoral district or constituency boundaries are deliberately modified for electoral purposes, thereby producing a contorted or unusual shape  to the advantage or disadvantage of a particular political party, racial, religious or other special interest group.

In 2008 voters stripped the Cal Legislature’s authority to draw Assembly, Senate and Board of Equalization districts, but not those of Congress, by passing Proposition 11 with support from Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger but opposition from numerous Democrats,  interest groups and incumbent officeholders.

The initiative stemmed partly from controversy over a deal struck by legislative leaders in 2001 to draw maps that protected incumbents of both parties. Since then only one of 53 congressional seats, and none of 120 legislative seats, changed party hands in the two elections prior to Proposition 11’s passage.

Even before California’s first redistricting commission draws its first maps, however, voters on Nov. 2 will decide the fate of Proposition 20, which would expand its authority to include California congressional districts, and Proposition 27, to kill the panel and return power to the Legislature.

If both measures pass, the one with the greater number of “yes” votes will go into effect.

Perhaps the shameful example of such disgraceful manipulation is the so-called ‘ribbon of shame’ the 23rd Congressional District snaking for 175 miles by only inches wide along the California coast from Monterey to LA County drawn to protect Democrat Congresswoman Lois Capps..

Gerrymandering is named for former Massachusetts governor Elbridge Gerry (pronounced /ˈɡɛri/; 1744-1814). In 1812, Governor Gerry signed a bill that redistricted Massachusetts to benefit his Democratic-Republican  party. When mapped, one of the contorted districts in the Boston area was said to resemble the shape of a salamander hence the label. Gerry likely did not invent the idea just applied it politically.

Amid protest against sexual abuse by priests Pope Benedict compared modern U.K. atheism with the rise of Nazi Germany - warning against “aggressive secularism,” according to a report in the U.K.’s Mirror. Pedro Leonardo Mascheroni, 75, a naturalized Argentinean and his wife Marjorie Roxby Mascheroni, 67, a US citizen, were both arrested after asking for nearly $1 million to help Venezuela make a nuclear bomb within 10 years. Both are imprisoned on spying charges and held without bail.

The pair were previously employed by the Los Alamos National laboratories and were caught in an FBI sting operation in which an FBI  undercover operative posed as an agent from the South American country.

The US government said that, in reality, Venezuela had not been seeking US secrets, nor had anyone working for it.

Under Mr Mascheroni’s alleged plan, Venezuela would have used a secret, underground nuclear reactor to produce and enrich plutonium, and an open reactor above ground to create nuclear energy.

They appeared in court in Albuquerque, New Mexico to face 22 charges. They could be imprisoned for life if convicted.

Fifty-seven years ago another infamour husband and wife spy team Julius and Ethel Rosenberg who were American communists were executed in 1953 for conspiracy to commit espionage. The charges related to passing information about the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. This was the first execution of civilians for espionage in United States history.

Decoded Soviet cables, codenamed VENONA, have supported courtroom testimony that Julius acted as a courier and recruiter for the Soviets, but doubts remain about the level of Ethel’s involvement. The decision to execute the Rosenbergs was, and still is, controversial.

Two Los Angeles city agencies that received $111 million in federal stimulus funds used the money to create or save just 55 jobs, City Controller Wendy Greuel said Wednesday. L. A. spent over two million dollars to create each job.

Announcing the results of two audits, Greuel said she found no misuse of federal Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds by officials in the Public Works Department and the Department of Transportation.

But she said she was disappointed by delays in preparing projects and awarding contracts that could have cut into Los Angeles’ double-digit jobless rate.

“With our local unemployment rate over 12 percent, we need to do a better job cutting the red tape and putting Angelenos back to work,” Greuel said at a news conference.

Defending the city’s track record on the jobs front, City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana said overall job creation is much better if contracts awarded by all departments are taken into consideration.

If convicted, he faces up to eight years and four months in state prison and would be barred for life from holding elected office.

The Muslim Brotherhood (officially The Society of the Muslim Brothers) has infiltrated the U.S. government as part of the movement’s drive to promote holy war against the West, a report said. MB is banned in Egypt, and is described as having medieval views including toward women even opposing women’s voting. In Egypt its members often run for office as “independents.”

Nothing is being done to stop the Brotherhood infiltration in the U. S. The report by the Center for Security Policy cited the success of one Brotherhood operative in gaining access to the White House.

“Relying on Brotherhood operatives for ‘outreach to the Muslim community,’ let alone appointing them to influential government jobs, is a formula for disaster,” the report said. “It gives prominence and legitimacy to enemy agents engaged in covert and not-so-covert acts of sedition. It facilitates their penetration and influence over the intelligence, law enforcement and national and homeland security agencies responsible for discerning and defeating such threats.”

Titled “Shariah, The Threat to America,” the report said the Brotherhood, with headquarters in Egypt but heavily financed by Saudi Arabia, has dominated Muslim politics in the United States. The report, prepared by teams headed by former Deputy Defense Undersecretary William Boykin and former Defense Intelligence Agency director Edward Soyster, said the Brotherhood oversaw everything from Hamas fundraising to training for FBI agents assigned to the Muslim community.

“As a result of this modus operandi, the Muslim Brotherhood is not only to prevent any appreciable challenge to its efforts to dominate the Muslim-American community,” the report, released on Sept. 15, said. “It is also able to exercise effective control over nearly all the Muslim organizational infrastructure in the United States, including most of those Muslim-American groups that are nominally outside its network. In any event, the latter pale by comparison in terms of their influence to those U.S.-based Islamic groups that are Ikhwan [Brotherhood] operations.”

The report cited Abdul Rahman Al Amoudi, an Eritrean native who in the 1990s became executive director of the American Muslim Council. Under the administration of then-President Bill Clinton, Al Amoudi helped develop guidelines for government dealings with the Muslim community and often met senior White House officials, including National Security Advisor Anthony Lake.

In 2003, Al Amoudi was arrested and prosecuted on charges that he served as a senior financier for Al Qaida.

The report cited a decision by the Defense Department to grant responsibility for military chaplains to the Islamic Society of North America, regarded as the largest Brotherhood front in the United States.

“In the absence of a serious effort to understand the true nature of shariah and the determined campaign being mounted to insinuate it into this country, together with an aggressive counter-intelligence operation aimed at defeating such influence and penetration operations, it is predictable that the next Al Amoudi will be able to do vastly more damage than did the original,” the report said.

The report said U.S. intelligence and security agencies have been prevented from properly analyzing the Brotherhood threat. Analysts could jeopardize their careers should they employ “accurate language to define the enemy threat doctrine,” the report said.

Under Obama, the Brotherhood was believed to have gained even greater influence. The report cited White House counter-terrorism adviser John Brennan, an enthusiastic supporter of Saudi Arabia who has denied any Islamic threat and called for a U.S. dialogue with the Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah.

“Indeed, it is hard to overstate the danger associated with the president of the United States having as his top advisor in these sensitive portfolios someone so severely compromised with respect to shariah and the threat it poses,” the report said.

Twelve Mexican nationals with ties to a violent gang all illegally in the U. S. have been arrested in Santa Maria, California by a federal, state and local law enforcement task force as part of an anti-gang initiative known as “Operation Community Shield.” Once again the lack of border security has exposed Americans to grave dangers.

The U.S. intelligence community says that Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula has established a network in the United States. The network could recruit Americans for attacks in the United States and other countries.

“And, by working through its local allies, the group has now allowed them to co-opt American citizens in the broader global Al Qaida battlefield,” the Bipartisan Policy Center said. “Considering individual jihadist groups will help illuminate trends about the changing threat faced by the Obama administration.”

The report, said AQAP was joined by other Al Qaida networks in the United States. This was said to have included Al Qaida agents from Pakistan and Somalia.

“Al Qaida and its Pakistani, Somali, and Yemeni allies arguably have been able to accomplish the unthinkable - establishing at least an embryonic terrorist recruitment, radicalization, and operational infrastructure in the United States with effects both at home and abroad,” the report, titled “Assessing the Terrorist Threat,” said.

“If [would-be AQAP bomber] Umar Farouq Abdulmutallab had succeeded in bringing down Northwest Airlines Flight 253, the bombing not only would have killed hundreds but also would have had a large effect on the U.S. economy, already reeling from the worst recession since the Great Depression, and would have devastated the critical aviation and tourism businesses,” the report, authored by Peter Bergen and Bruce Hoffman, said. “It also would have likely dealt a crippling blow to Barack Obama’s presidency.”

AQAP was also linked to the November 2009 shooting by a Muslim major in a U.S. Army base in Fort Hood, Texas in which 13 people were killed. In June 2010, an AQAP operative killed a recruiter and injured another outside a military facility in Little Rock, Arkansas.

“Our long-held belief that homegrown terrorism couldn’t happen here has thus created a situation where we are today stumbling blindly through the legal, operational, and organizational minefield of countering terrorist radicalization and recruitment occurring in the United States,” the report said. “Moreover, rather than answers, we now have a long list of pressing questions on this emerging threat, on our response, and on the capacity of the national security architecture we currently have in place to meet it.”

Republican Marco Rubio continues to hold a double-digit lead over independent candidate Charlie Crist in Florida’s contentious race for the U.S. Senate. A new poll of likely voters in Florida finds Rubio with 41% support. Crist, the state’s current governor, earns 30% of the vote, with Democrat Kendrick Meek still running third with 23%. Two percent (2%) like another candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

The Weekly Standard summarizes Obama’s approach as omnipotence at home, impotence abroad. Dinesh D’Souza, in the 09.27.10 edition of Forbes tries to explain Obama’s behavior calling it bizarre and describing Obama as the most antibusiness president perhaps in American history giving example:including:

1. With Obama’s backing, the U.S. Export-Import Bank offered $2 billion in loans and guarantees to Brazil’s state-owned oil company Petrobras to finance exploration in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro–not so the oil ends up in the U.S. He is funding Brazilian exploration so that the oil can stay in Brazil. Similar billions have gone to Mexico for off shore oil drilling as he shuts down U. S. oil production.

Note: 63% of likely voters believe offshore oil drilling should be allowed. All this as tens of thousands of U. S. oil workers and suppliers are blocked by Obama’s oil production ban.

2. The unemployment rate when Obama took office in January 2009 was 7.7%; now it is 9.5%. Yet he wants to spend even more and is determined to foist the entire bill on Americans making $250,000 a year or more even though 48% of those are small business men and women who could create the lion’s share of badly needed new jobs.

 3. When the Scots released the Lockerbie bomber convicted in connection with the deaths of 270 people, mostly Americans Obama complained bitterly. Then the London Times exposed a letter from only the week before from Obama urging his release.

Israel’s defense community believes Turkey is moving toward becoming a radical and nuclear Islamic state.

Analysts assert Prime Minister Recep Erdogan government is rapidly dismantling the secular Turkish state. They said Erdogan could turn Turkey into another Iran, a radical Muslim state with nuclear weapons.

Turkey’s referendum passed  26 amendments tp the secular constitution was approved by 58 percent of voters on Sept. 12 significantly increasing the authority of Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party while marginalizing Turkey’s military that had been a counterweigh to theocratic rule..

Erdogan could use his referendum victory to expand Turkey’s alliance with neighboring Iran and Syria while fomenting another crisis with Israel.

Turkey has launched plans to build at least two nuclear reactors and produce enriched uranium. But Israeli analysts did not rule out that under Erdogan Turkey could acquire weapons technology under the cover of a civilian nuclear program.

Erdogan, is heavily supported by Saudi Arabia, was expected to further downgrade relations with Israel. One prospect was Turkish sponsorship or support for another flotilla to the Gaza Strip. In May 2010, nine passengers, eight of them Turks, were killed in a bloody Israel Navy interception of a Turkish-sponsored flotilla to the Gaza Strip.

“If there is not a change in personality, then Turkey will become Iran No. 2,” former National Security Council director Uzi Dayan said.

Obama praised the results of the referendum. He regards Erdogan as one of the president’s leading allies in the Islamic world. They said the administration viewed the referendum as a reaffirmation of Turkish democracy and government control of the military.

On Sept. 14, the British daily Daily Telegraph reported that Iran has agreed to donate up to $25 million to Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party. The newspaper said Iran, in negotiations with Erdogan himself, has pledged to donate $12 million to the ruling Turkish party, with an additional $13 million to be relayed later in 2010. Turkey has denied the report.

The U. S. Congress has been examining Turkey’s alliance with neighboring Iran and Syria. House and Senate leaders were said to have blocked Turkish weapons requests from Washington after Ankara’s vote against proposed United Nations Security Council sanctions in June 2010.

In contrast, the Obama administration has supported Erdogan’s drive to eliminate the military’s influence on the Turkish government as well as civilian life. Officials said the prime minister’s effort was serving as a model for Islamic democracy.

California Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown has released a budget plan that would start next year’s spending plan from scratch. The eight-page plan also touches on cutting prison spending and starting budget negotiations this November. The former governor has also said he won’t raise taxes unless voters approve them. I read it - it is political bunk.

Last Friday marked the 223rd birthday of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. Washington has grown federal powers well beyond those listed or even contemplated in Article I of the Constitution, while state powers preserved by the 10th Amendment are in steady decline.

Fundamental federal-state questions are in court just now is that we have a president and Congress from the same political party, who took office with some electoral mandate to address a crisis. So the federal agenda grows: health care, education reform, stimulus bills and the like. But ultimately our Constitution asks:

By what right does the federal government take the lead on these matters? President Franklin Roosevelt faced the similar challenge when the Supreme Court blocked much of his early New Deal legislation as an unconstitutional expansion of federal power, leading him to propose his controversial and unsuccessful court-packing plan.

The Judiciary Reorganization Bill of 1937, frequently called the court-packing plan, was was proposed by U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt shortly after his victory in the 1936 presidential election. Its central and most controversial provision would have granted FDR power to appoint an additional Justice to the U.S. Supreme Court for every sitting member over the age of 70½, up to a maximum of six packing the court with justices agreeable to his “progressive” pro big government agenda.

Now it is 2010 and radical bigger government agenda’s are being advances.ultimately the courts and the Constitution are the check against federal power grabs by Congress and the president. If states are no longer really in charge of education, health and welfare, or social questions such as the family, why have states at all?

All this is background to a battle royale as Republican attorneys general of 20 states urged a federal judge in FLORIDA last week to strike down the federal health care overhaul law before it takes effect, contending that Congress doesn’t have the authority to require all Americans to have health insurance. The conservative legal attack comes as some polls show that a majority of Americans oppose the health care law and some Republicans are campaigning for Congress on the pledge they will work to repeal it (LOS ANGELES TIMES)

Without even framing the issue as Constitutional the 2010 and to a much greater extent the 2012 election will be about Constitutional power versus states rights, and whether or not the U. S. Constitutional will survive intact.

Surveys show that fewer than 8% know the 1787 date of the U. S. Constitution’s beginings. The past weekend was Afghanistan’s national election and inevitably someones will complain democracy is taking too long. Combat in the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) ended with the British surrender at Yorktown in 1781 and it took 6 years for 13 states to agree on a Constitution and we’re still arguing about it.

Senator Majority Leaders Harry Reid (D) Nevada appears determined to push a vote on the DREAM (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act) next week perhaps by attaching it to a defense bill. The Act says, in part, any alien who has acquired a degree from an institution of higher education in the United States or [have] completed at least 2 years, in good standing, in a program for a bachelor’s degree or higher degree in the United States…or is honorably discharged after 2-years military service is eligible to be a naturalized American citizens.

Obama promised to push for a quick enactment of the DREAM Act as a political move to bolster his 2012 reelection effort by registering millions of hitherto illegal immigrants.

The SocialistWorkr.org is cranky about the idea because, as it says, “Reid plans to make the proposal part of the Senate’s $670 billion defense appropriations bill to fund the U.S. war machine. This would force anyone who wants to support the DREAM Act to also support funding for the Pentagon and its wars and occupations around the world.”

The Harvard Crimson newspaper says, “support for the DREAM Act has arisen from a determined Harvard student body.”

Ever since Reid announced last week that he would include amendments for the DREAM Act and a “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal in the Department of Defense authorization bill next week, Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain’s has been in attack mode.

“This is turning legislation related to our national defense and military preparedness into a vehicle to force a partisan agenda through the Senate,” The Washington Times reports McCain said.

In Santa Barbara a new BEVMO booze super market will open next weekend and has already mailed households offers including second bottles of wine for five cents and wine tastings at the store starting in October

A major power struggle is splitting the Iranian Revolutionary regime in Tehran with the Revolutionary Guards and Ahmadinejad challenging the conservative ayatollahs. He plans to run his chief aide Rahim Mashai for election in 2013 to keep the presidential seat warm for four years, ala Russia’s Putin during which he will serve as prime minister. It is unlikely even he has the Chutzpah to do this without the backroom support from the Mullahs.

Hard on the heels of the Bell disclosure are expanding exposure of luxurious salaries . fringe, and retirement packages for non-profit executives. Donors are shocked at multi-million salaries, fringes including luxury vehicle at non-profit hospitals, and even  a half million aslary for one thrift store operation in so. Cal..

Non-profits, classified under section 501c3  of the IRS code essentially grant tax deductibility for contributions on virtually all tax returns. Such institutions and organizations are granted other exemptions from taxes depending on  the jusistidction where they operate. Top salaries are listed on an annual 990 tax return but it has long been a practice to spin-off for profits beside the NPO that indirectly benefit from their parents tax exempt status. An example along not necessarily an abusive one of the Red Cross Bllod Bank that is a for-profit spin off.

Perceived abuses, including exorbitant salaries, and fringes is a reason an increasing number are calling for limiting or eliminating the charitable deduction. Athiest and agnostics, for instance, have long argued against the exemption and deductions for churches and religious institutions

Despite objections from ministers and generals Israel will take delivery of 20 Lockheed-Martin built F-35 joint strike fighters in 2015 succumbing to pressure from the Obama administration to accept the F-22 alternative.. Obama and company blocked sale of the far superior F-22 and then ordered its production stopped at just 187 aircraft even for U. S. use.

The snub had provoked Israel to begin talks on acquiring the Russian fifth generation fighter or its Chinese copy. There is also conversation of building fighters in Israel.

The pressure is in part to assuage Congressional and Jewish-American concerns over the $60 billion military equipment sale to Saudi Arabia, and to make it look less like Obama has an anti-Israel bias and stop the usually liberal jewish vote from abandoning and sitting on their wallets in November and in 2012.

Worldwide Janes says there were about 2,500 fighters produced in the past decade entirely by Russia, China, Euro Union and the USA (through Boeing and Lockheed Martin).in 2011 production will be: US — 103; EU — 58; China — 46 and Russia — 41. By 2014 that is estimated to be 146. 56, 48 and 37 fighters built respectively.
