You don't know me, don't pretend to. You don't know if I'm gay, straight, or the most outlandish pervert on the planet. You can't tell my religious beliefs by what I say and that's the way I intend it. Don't be hypocritical, hubristic, or presumptuous. Listen to what I say only for the merit of my opinion, for what I say is based on intellect, education and empirical evaluation. It's an opinion, something that's entitled to all.

Is anyone other than myself well stricken with this controversial ordeal coming out of Florida? I’m talking about Pastor Terry Jones’ proclamation to burn twenty Qur¢ ans in conjunction with the 9th anniversary of 9/11. I have to admit, I’m ambiguous about how I feel on this issue.

At first I didn’t understand his viewpoint, or have any idea why he would want to do such a thing. After all, shouldn’t we respect all religions, their practices and their scripture? I know, I know, the Taliban desecrated and destroyed some of the monk’s religious statues. Muslims burn our flags, condemn all other religions, even torture, punish and kill those who practice other beliefs in some Islamic countries. I also know that Christians believe in turning the other cheek, and I’ve often heard the phrase, “what would Jesus do?” Well, I’m not Christian.
Besides all that, I’ve read, and who knows if it’s true or not, that Pastor Jones was doing it in protest of building the mosque near ground zero. Jesus, have we stooped to sixth grade mentality? If you knock my books over I’m going to knock over your bike! Why don’t we just post a video on You Tube and tell all Muslims that we’ll have our dads beat up their dads?

Then our turncoat president had to weigh in ¾ Lord I’m beginning to hate that man. He asked the pastor to reconsider, to pray and not to do this dastardly deed. That it would bring harm to our troops abroad in Afghanistan, Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries. Well, I have news for you Mr. President, you shouldn’t have sent them over there. You are the one putting them in danger, bringing death, and throwing them in harms way. Pastor Jones, albeit stupidly, is only trying to make a statement. The act of putting our troops and other Americans in Islamic countries in jeopardy has already been done ¾ by you! Haven’t you heard sir, Afghanistan is your war.

Let me take this opportunity to expound a little. I know this is going to sound somewhat insensitive, but, kicking political correctness to the curb, I think it needs to be said. Those people ¾ oops. Oh, what a cliché. I can already hear the liberal race baiters pounding their fists and shouting, “what does he mean, ‘those people?’” Anyway, Afghanis in particular, and most surrounding regions, have a 70% illiteracy rate. That means 70% of their entire population can’t read or write folks. What makes you think they can form an intelligent opinion based on anything other than what someone has told them to think or sheer animal instinct? I don’t believe they can. Pavlov may have been right vis-à-vis this group. Proof in point, they’re still rioting over this insignificant pastor’s comments and threat to burn the Qur¢ an.

Let’s see. “Hey, Mr. Afghani, why are you torching your neighborhood, destroying property, burning flags and beating people up?”

“Oh, there’s some American about 8,000 miles away from here that says he’s going to burn our beloved Qur¢ an. That’s an affront to Allah.”

I’m sorry, they wouldn’t really say that. Remember? 70% of them wouldn’t even know what “affront” means. But I have to admit, it sounds like Watts all over again. Tell me, am I being too sardonic?

Let me be perspicuous in my point. We are culpable folks, plain and simple. Sure, it’s our government that’s pushing ideology, but we’re letting them. It’s a facade that we’re fighting in the Middle East to keep the fighting out of our country. Rhetoric designed to be the red herring in order to push some plutocrat’s agenda…. Oh damnit Prole, there you go again with that conspiracy theory crap!

Okay, I’m digressing. We have a clime here on earth where its people have been fighting since time immemorial. I question, what makes anyone think when the world’s police, the US government, leave the area, malice, fighting and carnage won’t continue in the region? Please folks, we all know history repeats itself. And if not that, the question would be, even according to the mavens, who will fill the void? Does anyone think for a second that the strife and turmoil that has persisted for centuries will all of a sudden quit? Like I said, I’m not a Christian, but I believe even the bible refers to war, or the threat of war, shall consume the holy land until the end of days. Does anyone realize the Middle East is the holy land?

But back to the burning of the Qur¢ ans. I’m thrilled although befuddled by the cessation of the burning. I’m confused and disturbed by the vitriol, animosity and rancor that has befallen our brethren in my short tenure here on earth. I look around towards the end of my hoary stint and see we have digressed as a people ¾ I had such high hopes. I was once a humanitarian and had great expectations of mankind, which has fallen by the wayside leaving little but misanthropy.

  1. ummmmmm. Obama didn’t send the troops over there Bush did.

  2. Jassmine, you are correct, and I don’t believe I said anything differently. All I alluded to was, Obama is killing our men and women and Afghanistan is his war. Here is an exerpt from a blog I wrote, “Calling a Spade a Spade.” If you check the figures are accurate and this in itself makes it Obama’s war.

In February of 2009 Obama sent 17,000 troops to Afghanistan to bolster the number of boots on the ground by almost 50%. In November he announced another 30,000 to prepare for a counter-insurgency strike, while the French kept a paltry thirty some hundred men committed to the fight. Gordon Brown sent an additional 500 to our 30,000, raising the number of British troops to a meager 10,000. This being the second highest commitment next to the United State’s. Out of the alleged
43-nation coalition nary a country sent additional troops, even the UN was non-committal. Since taking office President Obama has almost tripled the troop level in Afghanistan, and with the resignation of General McChrystal it appears more troops will go before this is over.
