It was unusual that two significantly sized asteroids whizzed past Earth Wednesday in a single day.
The larger of the two space rocks, asteroid 2010 RX30, approached Earth at 5:51 a.m. EDT (0951 GMT), passing within 154,000 miles. It was estimated to be between 33 and 65 feet wide.
The second asteroid came closer. The 20- to 46-foot-wide asteroid 2010 RF12 passed within 49,000 miles of Earth at 5:12 pm EDT (2112 GMT), NASA asteroid trackers said.
The Earth is in a solar system shooting gallery with a rough estimate of 50 million unknown asteroids, a 33-foot-wide near-Earth object could pass harmlessly between Earth and the orbit of the moon every day. Such an asteroid might hit Earth’s atmosphere once every 10 years, but because of its relatively small size, it would pose no substantial threat to the people or property below. But, it would still be a Depends moment.
The Federal Reserves’ “Beige Book” says there are unmistakable signs of widespread economic slowdown which is entirely contrary to everything that the Obama White House has been and is saying.
The last major GE factory making ordinary incandescent light bulbs in the United States is closing this month, marking a small, sad exit for a product and company that can trace their roots to Thomas Alva Edison’s innovations in the 1870s.
As the lighting industry shows, even when the government pushes companies toward environmental innovations and Americans come up with them, the manufacture of the next generation technology can still end up overseas.
What made the plant here vulnerable is, in part, a 2007 energy conservation measure passed by Congress that set standards essentially banning ordinary incandescents by 2014. The law will force millions of American households to switch to more efficient bulbs that can be fire hazards, and Mercury pollutants.
The resulting savings in energy and greenhouse-gas emissions are expected to be immense. But the move also had unintended consequences.
Rather than setting off a boom in the U.S. manufacture of replacement lights, the leading replacement lights are compact fluorescents, or CFLs, which are made almost entirely overseas, mostly in China.
Saturday’s Quran burning organized by a Gainesville, Florida minister to celebrate the 9th anniversary of the tragic 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon is as intentionally provocative as the plan to build a mosque closely adjacent to the WTC, and equally brain dead.
Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s profane, abusive Chief of Staff is chomping at the bit to replace Chicago Mayor Richard Daley who suddenly announced he will not run for reelection.
For more than twenty years, Chicagoans grew accustomed to Daley ruling City Hall with red-faced temper, garbled syntax and iron fist. His decision not to run again threatens to leave a significant power vacuum in the nation’s third largest city. The infamous JFK defeat of Nixon in 1960 that many say was delivered by Daley’s Dad with stuffed ballot boxes Chicago has been a secure Democrat fiefdom most recently delivering Obama into the White House.
Obama’s White House appears to be signaling that it will support Rahm’s Chicago takeover to preserve not only the tenor but reliability of Chicago politically.
Obama is prancing around promising more borrowed billions of dollars in a breathless last minute political effort to rescue fellow Democrats from political oblivion in November. Even the most biased, liberal polls like the ABC-Post polls show Obama’s job approval circling the porcelain convenience’s toilet bowl.
The hysterical estimates of the rate of ice loss from Greenland and West Antarctica should be halved, according to Dutch and US scientists.
In the last two years, several teams have estimated Greenland is shedding roughly 230 gigatonnes of ice, or 230 billion tonnes, per year and West Antarctica around 132 gigatonnes annually.
Together, that would account for more than half of the annual three-millimetre (0.2 inch) yearly rise in sea levels, a pace that compares dramatically with 1.8mm (0.07 inches) annually in the early 1960s.
But, according to the new study, published in the September issue of the journal Nature Geoscience, the ice estimates fail to correct for a phenomenon known as glacial isostatic adjustment.
This is the term for the rebounding of Earth’s crust following the last Ice Age.
Glaciers that were kilometers (miles) thick smothered Antarctica and most of the northern hemisphere for tens of thousands of years, compressing the elastic crust beneath it with their titanic weight.
On the eve of the Obama sponsored peace talks in Washington DC four Israeli soldiers were ambushed and killed, one was pregnant. The massacre was ignored by main stream U. S. media. There is little optimism for lasting peace as an outcome.
Verbatim Op-ed: “Obama: We’re Not Suckers.” Obama may mortgage America’s future, but we won’t let him do the same to Israel
This past week, the cat was out of the bag and the American president’s infinite arrogance came bursting forth. Unlike his European colleagues, whose statements made sure to minimize their involvement to “ending the occupation of 1967,” President Obama (via a State Department spokesman) revealed his intention to bring an “end to the conflict.”
Does Obama really know how to “end the conflict?” We got the answer two days later, when a document published in the media revealed the US Administration’s intention to secure a final-status agreement within a year, while implementing it within 10 years. In other words, Obama wishes to win all the glory while mortgaging the future (our - Israel’s - future, not his.)
After all, this is Obama’s specialty. The president “saved” the US economy by printing more than $3 trillion, most of which were poured into the American economy via the acquisition of inflated mortgage-backed securities. He’s leaving the bill for his successors.
Americans may be willing to clean after Obama and believe that he saved them from collapse (they will find the fractures and skeletons in a few years,) but the State of Israel cannot take such chances. We live in the present and not in promises for a rosy future; hence, the US president would do well to show a little modesty: Learn about the roots of the conflict, understand why there is no solution for it at this time, and most importantly, premise any proposal for an interim agreement on realities on the ground.
If Obama wishes to use the “implementation in 10 years” card to shove a “deal” premised on the types of dreams he’s selling to his own people down our throats, we have news for him: We’re not your highness’ suckers. If you wish to propose something that would be implemented in 10 years, you’re invited to come back for a visit nine years from now. Any attempt to look even just one year into the future is dangerous in our neighborhood.
The real core issue
The talks Obama organized for us are seemingly supposed to focus on what he (mistakenly) refers to as the core issues - including refugees, borders, and Jerusalem. Yet his preoccupation with all these issues shows that President Obama has no understanding whatsoever of the real core issue.
The only genuine core issue is the ideology that refuses to accept the existence of a national home for the Jewish people in the Middle East (within any borders.) Islamic imperialism seeks to spread in all directions, while the tiny Israel is like a thorn in its side at the heart of its home base, the Middle East.
Israel and the Jewish sovereignty over its territory is the only core issue. All the rest are excuses. Two generations after 1948, the issue of refugees has remained an excuse, just like the “humanitarian supplies” on board the Gaza-bound Turkish ships were merely an excuse.
In order to understand the arrogance inherent in his desire to “end the conflict,” Obama would do well to look at two elements expressed aboard the Mavi Marmara: What was the song, “Khaibar, Khaibar,” sang by activists while they prepared the metal rods used to assault IDF soldiers? And how did these activists know that IDF troops - supposedly members of the brutal occupation army - will not use any arms while raiding the ship?
Khaibar is an ancient town on the Arabian Peninsula. In 629, Mohammad’s soldiers attacked the Jews barricaded in the city. A year earlier, Mohammad signed the Treaty of Hudaybiyya with the Jews, promising them to live in peace while telling his followers this was the right path: Sign agreements when the Jewish enemy is strong and bide your time.
When Mohammad conquered Khaibar, he executed all the men, the women (including the girls) were brutally raped, and boys were sold to slavery. This event was deeply etched in Islamic imperialism’s consciousness, and the song “Khaibar, Khaibar, oh Jews, Mohammad’s army shall return” has been used as a battle cry since 629 and until the Mavi Marmara days.
Accepting Jewish sovereignty
This leads us to the next question: How did the activists know it was a good idea to prepare bats in order to counter the region’s most powerful army? The answer is simple: They knew that the de-legitimization campaign against Israel would prompt the IDF to fight with its hands tied behind its back. Israel cannot use the weapons it holds for fear of the international condemnation that follows every new provocation against it.
Palestinian Authority President Abbas is right to say that he should not be asked to characterize the State of Israel as the Jewish people’s state; however, he is wrong when he tells us to “define yourselves any way you want.” We already did it, in line with a UN resolution dating back to 1947 and a League of Nations resolution dating back to 1922. We established the Jewish national home at the heart of the Islamic Middle East.
And this leads us to the real question: Is Abbas, as well as all the leaders and leading clerics in Islamic states, willing to absolutely recognize the Jewish people’s right for sovereignty in its land? Much before we try to draw the borders, we need to ask whether the Muslims are willing to accept our sovereignty here on any plot of land.
This is the first core issue, to be followed by the second core issue: Are all Islamic states willing to accept that any violation of the final-status agreement planned for us by Obama will receive an immediate response on the ground? That is, would the State of Israel have the right to remove any hostile element from any territory used to attack us?
If the answer to those two questions is affirmative, we have something to talk about. However, if the answer is negative, then even presidential pledges to protect Israel under an American nuclear umbrella would not guarantee our existence here. The State of Israel, whose breadth ranges from 12 to 50 kilometers, cannot afford to sustain even one Iranian nuclear bomb.
And so, we do not intend to put out trust in promises, but rather, to defend ourselves - against the Iranian bomb, and against Palestinian demography.

Russia and China are known to be reviewing the tens of thousands of U.S. military documents disclosed to the online anti-secrecy site Wikileaks.
China’s Second Department of the PLA, or 2PLA, is the intelligence arm of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and is responsible for gathering intelligence on U.S. military forces.
The 2PLA in the past scored impressive intelligence coups against the U.S. including in 1991 the prediction of the start of the Persian Gulf War and several other conflicts in the 1990s, and obtaining unexploded Tomahawk cruise missiles that provided valuable intelligence used in China’s growing land-attack cruise missile force.
Russia’s intelligence services also have scored major intelligence coups by recruiting spies who have provided invaluable intelligence, such as FBI agent turncoat Robert Hansen who provided Moscow the entire plan for the U.S. government to maintain continuity in a nuclear attack.
According to counterintelligence specialists, the Chinese and Russian intelligence services are believed to have obtained the entire collection of documents, by some estimates as many as 92,000 reports that were posted on Wikileaks in July.
The documents posted online were not done in a way that made them easily searched and thus the first step for both countries’ services will be to digitize the documents, a process that could take several months.
So, Russia and China are systematizing this massive library so they can find, compare and link things. When added to other information both have compiled links are being made and conclusion reached that could irreparable harm America and its allies.
Vanity Fair regurgitated all over Sarah Palin in a nasty 18-page attack in last week’s issue. I did not study it, Vanity Fair is not a journal I patronize –its article felt purposefully petty, trivial with a streak of hysteria. Frankly I am confused by its neurotic delirium-happily I don’t have to and will not read it.
With 55-days to go before November’s midterm elections the Gallup organization dropped a bomb on the political world. In shorthand, the pollsters said that if the midterm elections were held today, Republicans would take control of the House - and probably by a comfortable margin.
Then political analyst Charlie Cook said that the GOP could be looking at gains of at least 40 seats in the House in the upcoming midterm elections. The GOP needs to gain 39 to take House majority.
Then a professor of political science at the University of Buffalo said Republicans are poised to gain 51 or 52 House seats, at least 11 more than needed to depose the Democrats. Last weekend White House senior adviser David Plouffe admitted 70 House races and 15 Senate races are in play this November.
For decades, Gallup has asked voters: “If the elections for Congress were being held today, which party’s candidate would you vote for in your congressional district?” Pollster debate its bias but it is hard to deny its results.
This week’s survey produced the largest lead for the Republicans in the history of asking that question: 51 percent to 41 percent. Ninety-six percent of Republicans said they would vote for the GOP candidate, while 88 percent of Democrats said they would support the Democrat. Independents, who helped power Democratic victories in 2006 and 2008, split 48 percent to 31 percent for Republicans.
Barely two months ago, Democrats held a lead causing a moment of hopefulness among party strategists that has quickly disappeared. In 2006 and 1994 when the parties swapped control of Congress the respective parties each then had a 7 point lead on the question. The GOP now has a growing ten point lead.
Democrats appear to be plodding lemming-like down the road to perdition and are shunning Obama except in liberal bastions like Hollywood and San Francisco.
Enfant terrible (ahn*-fahn* te-REE-bluh) [* these syllables are nasal] plural enfants terribles (ahn*-fahn* te-REE-bluh) noun: A person, especially someone famous or successful, whose unconventional lifestyle, work, or behavior appears shocking. Etymology from French enfant terrible (terrible child). Usage: “Once an enfant terrible, who as a young filmmaker challenged censors and outraged conservative critics, Koji Wakamatsu has not mellowed so much as ripened.” Mark Schilling; All’s Unfair in Love and War; The Japan Times (Tokyo); Aug 13, 2010.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) forecasts of government deficits and debt are supposed to be authoritative. But, most everybody knows the White House and Congress forces the CBO to make unrealistic political assumptions when issuing its estimates.
The Heritage Foundation has stripped out the B. S. and came up with a more realistic look at the government’s spending and debt. Based on realistic assumptions:
- By 2020, half of all income tax revenues will go toward paying interest on a $23 trillion national debt.
- The national debt held by the public will surpass 100 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2020.
- Federal spending per household, which has risen from $25,000 to nearly $30,000 during the past three years, will top $38,000 by 2020. The national debt per household, which was $52,000 before the recession, will approach $150,000 by 2020.
- Over eight years under President Obama, budget deficits will total $10 trillion. That is triple the $3.3 trillion in deficits accumulated by President Bush. The public debt - $7.5 trillion at the end of 2009 - will triple to $23.5 trillion by 2020.
- The expected additional costs of the Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid programs will push the federal public debt to more than 300 percent of GDP by 2050 and above 800 percent of GDP by 2080.
Obama blames Bush for handing him a growing deficit. Never mind that the deficit is now nearly three times what it was under Bush. Meanwhile, Obama is lecturing European countries, which are cutting government spending, that they should reverse course and increase spending.
American consumers know better. Even as Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress spend like drunken sailors, Americans have cut back on their personal debt.
“I think the biggest threat we have to our national security is our debt,” Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has said.
Because of Obama and the Democrats, America faces a financial crisis as devastating as a terrorist attack.
Decolletage or décolletage (day-kol-TAZH, -kol-uh-) noun: A low neckline on a woman’s dress. Etymology: From French décolletage (low-cut), past participle of décolleter (to expose the neck), from de- (away) + collet (collar), diminutive of col (neck). Usage: “If you order The Proposal [as an in-flight movie on Saudi Arabian Airlines], you get a blurry blob over Sandra Bullock’s modest decolletage, and even her clavicles.” Maureen Dowd; A Girls’ Guide to Saudi Arabia; Vanity Fair (New York); Aug 2010.
Signs warning travelers that areas are unsafe because of drug and alien smugglers have been posted by the U. S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) along a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend, a major east-west corridor linking Tucson and Phoenix with San Diego. The local sheriff says Mexican drug cartels now control those and other parts of the state.
“This is 70 to 80 miles from the border - 30 miles from the fifth-largest city in the United States,” says Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, whose county lies at the center of major drug and alien smuggling routes to Phoenix and cities east and west
He said he asked the Obama administration for 3,000 National Guard soldiers to patrol the border, but what he got were 15 warning signs. The Obama administration accused Arizona of human rights violations in a report to the U. N.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer condemned what she called the federal government’s “continued failure to secure our international border,” saying the lack of security has resulted in important natural recreational areas in her state being declared too dangerous to visit.
More than 28,000 people have died since Mexico launched its crackdown in late 2006, and the bloodshed shows no sign of ending. Law enforcement authorities have been warning for more than two years that the dramatic rise in border violence eventually would spread into the U.S.
T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, which represents all 17,500 of the Border Patrol’s front-line agents, said areas well north of the border are so overrun by armed criminals that U.S. citizens are being warned to keep out of those locations.
Obama is increasingly indicted for playing dangerous politics to allow more illegals to invade the nation; reduce policing and most recently ordered ICE not to deport them except in the most egregious cases and granting defacto amnesty. Critics expect Obama to take more direct steps for a blanket amnesty and citizenship effort after the November election to set up his reelection in 2012.
Despite offering top quality meats and service Santa Barbara’s last independent butcher shop, Whitefoot’s, is closing its door after 42-years.
In 1860 when Lincoln signed the Homestead Act, there were 27 million Americas sparsely settling a vast country. In 1900 there were three times that many including millions of freed slaves all looking for a piece of the Americans dream. By then 600,000 families had successfully homesteaded the 160 acre land grants by hard work and grit- because few could afford the $1.25 per acre for any more land.
Homesteading was available to citizens 21-years of age or older, or those who had declared their intention to obtain citizenship and who would improve and live on the property for five years.
It was a time of massive in immigration to fill-up a continent with rural farms. It was then that the notion of a wide open, vast America began to root as legend and now myth as most of the 305 million Americans now cluster in urban areas.
The myth versus today’s reality is very near the core of the debate over the flood of undocumented, illegal aliens swarming into the country. It makes one wonder if something similarly productive couldn’t be crafted rather than politicized and prostituted poppycock.
So now we’re majoring in sending weapons to our terrorist enemies. More and more, I’m coming to believe Obama is just Joe Stalin in blackface-Bill S., Florida.
Experts say that the rumor that an Israeli blasting of Iran’s Russian fueled reactor would pollute the Middle East region with radiation if overblown.
In fact the main contaminant uranium hexafluoride is a ceramic-like compound and would likely do nothing except inflame hysterics as a way to dissuade Israeli from bombing the reactor even after it has been fueled.
