Adding Insult to Injury

Written by a British housewife to her daily newspaper. This is one ticked-off lady:

“Are we fighting a war on terror or aren’t we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to . . . New York Sept 11, 2001 and have continually threatened to do so since?

Were people from all over the world not brutally murdered that day in . . . downtown Manhattan and in a field in Pennsylvania ?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible burning or crushing death that day, or didn’t they?

And I’m supposed to care that a few Taliban were claiming to be tortured by a justice system of the nation they come from and are fighting against in a brutal insurgency.

I’ll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I’ll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere belief [in] which is a crime punishable by beheading in Afghanistan.

I’ll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg’s head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I’ll care when the cowardly so-called ‘insurgents’ in Afghanistan come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques and behind women and children.

I’ll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of Nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I’ll care when the British media stops pretending that their freedom of speech on stories is more important than the lives of the soldiers on the ground or their families waiting at home to hear about them when something happens.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a British soldier roughing up an Insurgent terrorist to obtain information, know this:

I don’t care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head [after] he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take this to the bank:

I don’t care.

When I hear that a prisoner - who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat and ‘fed special food’ that is paid for by my taxes - is complaining that his holy book is being ‘mishandled,’ you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts:

I don’t care.

And oh, by the way, I’ve noticed that sometimes it’s spelled ‘Koran’ and other times ‘Quran.’ Well, believe me!! you guessed it ……

I don’t care!!”

Hurricane adds this:  When I’m told that this huge mosque that is to be built, much to the glee of New York City officials, near the site of the 9/11 massacre, is really a project of the “good” Muslims, who are sorry for 9/11, unless and until I hear that the place includes a monument to those who were murdered that day, along with a sincere apology in large print, I DON’T CARE; it’s the greatest case of adding insult to injury in the history of the world, and hypocrisy has reached its apogee.

  1. The charge of insensitively is easily and frequently applied to Americans with certain opinions. Due to contrary opinions held by any speaker or writer, the charge gets easily upgraded to intolerance and racism. To many Americans, the charges seem like a one way street.

A 9/11 memorial near the new Islamic Center established and maintained by the new center seems like a reasonable way for some Muslims to express their own sensitivity; It would stand as a rejection of those who committed 9/11 violence in the name of their religion. Those ideas must be rejected more clearly by more Muslims.

    Just to be sensitive.

  2. The problem is that the imam of the proposed Muslim center is on record as believing that the US got what it deserved in the 9/11 attacks. Maybe the need for sensitivity is on his part.

  3. Make no mistake, I meant it is time for sensitivity, at a minimum on his part. Hope he has all of his receipt for his US taxpayer funded trip abroad.

  4. Ironically, is his political and career building Middle Eastern trip being funded by US taxpayers so he can get funding from intolerant and single religion authoritarian governments who discriminate and worse against non Muslims - by convincing them America is becoming more tolerant?

  5. Chief Hypocrite— You’ve stated your case very well. Irony and hypocrisy reign, and we’re expected to be fools enough not to notice.
