f-35-jsfThe United States criticized Turkey on Tuesday for canceling a NATO military exercise because Israel also was participating. But, it is hazy how serious Obama is in that criticism.

Neither the Turks nor NATO has confirmed that Israel’s participation in the exercises over Turkey was Ankara’s reason for canceling it.

But, earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel of using phosphorous bombs on Gaza’s children.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, meanwhile, revealed Tuesday that Turkey and Syria had held military maneuvers last week - the same week Ankara canceled the annual Anatolian Eagle exercise apparently because the IDF was to participate.

His criticism did not stop Obama from inviting Turkey to participate in a NATO lead missile defense shield aimed at Iran or from approving the sale of 120 F-35 joint strike fighters (JSF) to it. Particularly interesting since Obama continues to obstruct the sale of the JSF, previously promised, to Israel along with advanced F-15s and advanced attack helicopters.

Damascus welcomed Turkey’s cancellation, “because Israel always attacks the Palestinian people, maintains an embargo on Gaza and rejects any Turkish effort to resume [Syrian-Israeli] peace talks.” It was also disclosed the Syria and Turkey have just held joint military exercises.

Anti-Israel propaganda is nothing new but reaching new intensity.  What is new is it seems to be having effect now. For instance: are articles on KAVKASCETNER.COM and reprinted by “White Pride Worldwide” and reportedly broadcast on its Stormfront Radio network says “American supporters of Israel were delighted to learn that an Israeli company, Magal Security Systems-owned in part by the government of Israel-is in charge of security for the most sensitive nuclear power and weapons storage facilities in the United States.”

The report appeared to begin with an article published in September 2007 in Pravda written by Michael Collins Piper with a now rather ironic justification for the contract given current trends that “Supporters of Israel say that this i(the Magai contract) is a splendid idea, since Israel is said to be perhaps America’s closest ally on the face of the planet.”

Logan airport was, of course, where the 9-11 suicide planes that struck New York City and the Pentagon originated.  Magai has other perimeter security contract around the globe including at Glasgow Airport. Even if untrue such reports feed anti-Semitism.

The Kavkas Center says it is “a Chechen internet agency which is independent, international and Islamic ” Kavkas literally means Caucasus.
