Russia Rejects U.S. Call For Sanctions On Iran

hillary-2Threatening Iran with harsh new sanctions to advance negotiations over its nuclear program would be “counterproductive,” Russia’s foreign minister said Tuesday, throwing cold water on Obama  hopes that Russia had been persuaded to cooperate with its effort to intensify the global pressure on Tehran.

Putin has played Obama like a fiddle conning him to coallapse on the ballistic missile shield in Poland, the Czech Republic and surrended on the Okraine and delivered a diplomatic slap in the face.

Russian foreign minister, Sergey V. Lavrov, said after meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in Moscow that diplomacy should be given a chance to work, particularly after a meeting in Geneva this month in which the Iranian government said it would allow United Nations inspectors to visit a clandestine nuclear enrichment facility near the holy city of Qum. Few expect anything productive to come of the IAEA inspection at Qum, and see this development as another win for Iran as it our maneuvers Obama on its nuclear weapons program.

It is expected that China will follow Russia’s play and that virtually ends any meaningful chance of stopping Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin, who is in China on a trade mission Tuesday and conveniently missed Hillary  Clinton, has spoken out against using punitive measures against Tehran.

Trying the brush the tire tracks off her pants suit Clinton tried to keep a stiff upper lip saying, “In the absence of any significant progress, we will be seeking to rally international opinion behind additional sanctions.” According to the New York Times Clinton then insisted tehn U. S. did not make any specific requests of Russia at the meeting. But a day earlier, a senior official traveling with her said the United States would be looking for “specific forms of pressure” that Russia would be prepared to back.

Once again Obama pushed Hillary under the bus and made her look inept and silly, and Hillary willingly fell for it.

  1. Richard…I’ve always said that Russia is the danger here. Iran and Afghanistan are just Russia’s pawns, steadily sapping the economic strength of America. Sanctions against Iran would work against Russia’s oil strategy intentions. Clinton seems to have no grasp as to how this game is played.

Yet another failure for the Obama Administration.

  2. Slowsmile: Isn’t there are appropriate admonition that says “Too smart by half” or some such. Putin is eating Obama’s lunch, and Obama is using Hillary as his shill. Regardless U. S. foreign policy is in chaos and we’re being backed into a corner.

  3. If both America and Europe can pull there fingers out and accelerate the awaiting massive discoveries of natural gas, its uses and applications, I think this would perhaps cause Putin some major worry — since the only power he can swing around is Russia’s energy and raw material dominance — whose world dependency would be greatly diminished by these new discoveries of shale natural gas technology.

  4. Slowsmile: The “against” industry is in full song particularly in California and Oregon regardless of the seriousness of the consequences. It is costly in dollar, social and political terms but, there is no leadership to change it. So, we’ll all suffer.

  5. Richard…I am sad to hear what you report. But this is the likeliest path, and may perhaps continue to amplify and become even more unreasonable, unsettling and destructive. And you hit the nail on the head, there is no real leader — no one who will simply tell the truth, enlighten and lead. It will continue for some while, I fear.
