Israel shows urban warfare capabilities of ‘Mosquito’ micro-UAV

mosquitoIsrael has demonstrated a sneaky one pound micro-unmanned aircraft for military operations with a range of about one miles that can snoops out enemy troops, artillery and the like and alert the good guys who can then call in precision strikes while remaining out of harms way. .

Israel Aerospace Industries has demonstrated its Mosquito micro-UAV. Mosquito, at a conference and exhibition at a military facility in early September. The gadget was designed for reconnaissance missions by army battalions and companies.

“Its small size and capabilities allow for its use in a variety of scenarios and in challenging battlefield conditions, including urban warfare and Low Intensity Conflict situations,” IAI said.

IAI has marketed other tactical UAVs for ground forces. This included the I-View 50, meant for conventional and urban warfare missions.

“IAI will continue to develop new technologies and innovative solutions for every branch of the Israel Defense Forces, in order to ensure the technological superiority needed to prevail in any situation,” IAI president Itzhak Nissan said.

IAI has also been exhibiting its new radars, particularly the EL/M 2112. At the Latrun conference, the company also displayed its multi-mission radar, or EL/M 2084.

“The MMR addresses a growing need to include all land-based radar functions in one operational unit: detection of surface-to-surface medium and short range missiles, rockets, and mortars; calculation of the anticipated impact and launching points; and delivery of target data to air defense weapons systems,” IAI said.
