According to this article in the Denver Post today, Judge Sotomayor was sworn in as the nations first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice in two separate ceremonies.
The festivities and formalities occurred first in a private “en camera” oathing, meeting the requirements of the Constitution while the photo-op oathing met the requirements of the law that set up the federal courts.
A sincere congratulations is truly in order for this historic appointment witnessed variously by the public, her family and friends and the authorized officials to make it proper and legal.
My bet is Chief Justice Roberts had practiced his lines better than when he sworn in President Obama the first time.
Interesting that he only had to swear in a President once, if done correctly the first time.
After this tofer today, who can possibly continue asserting the claim that the government is not by it’s very nature inefficient? And that sentences could have been much shorter and even clearer.
Verbosity in the interest of clarity is a conundrum, but I think we can all do a better job of it.
But if I want to embellish excessively and to the max for any reason, well my readers can just move on, ignore or feel sorry for me.
But when our lawmakers or their staff or other special interest surrogates who really write the laws:
- Do not make the intentions clear enough;
- Do not amend an existing law rather than create an additional one with all the duplicate introductory whereas moments;
- Do not insure there is no conflicting law;
We have the well trodden pathway to a legal industry that is beyond the ability of an English speaking citizen who has graduated from High School to comprehend.
We also have a legal industry that is beyond the ability of an English speaking lawyer with tons of experience to be able to advise a client on without disclosing that it is only his opinion and someone may sue you anyway and depending on which Wise Latina or which Wise Caucasian you get, you could be in deep doo doo, but don’t blame me.
And even if you do not get put in jail or found guilty, you may still have to come out of pocket with the staggering costs of justice, better said, the game of law, and be personally devastated for the charges alleged that may be totally false and for the fear of what could happen to you if the verdict went in favor of a plaintiff who is mere exercising their rights to assert the rights granted by poorly written laws. Essentially taking advantage of others in an unwarranted way.
Personally I prefer unwarranted wiretaps, but legislators have no political interest in requiring themselves to do a good job, rather they mostly focus on attacking their political enemies and their policies based on the political benefits the legislators expects as a result.
So thank goodness we do not have to pay too much for this mediocrity.
Without even starting on, beyond mentioning it once for now, their personal conflict of interest in increasing their own salaries, their over the top benefits, including health care that you do not deserve, nor do they even try to give you, and unreasonable unaccountable lifetime retirement perks and pay for getting fired or quitting quickly, or even dying at the mic, I will close with this.
Thank goodness they are finally getting around to establishing a much larger and more modern fleet of junket planes that will rival most foreign military’s. Perhaps they decided that this fleet would also serve as an airborne lifeline for them and their friends, a big enough fleet for most elites and those favored by the elites, for the next attack on the US while most of us will be in leaky basements or long lines of cars stuck on freeways or splattered somewhere.
Could make Katrina look like real social justice.
Long live the congressionally approved and funded Elevated Living Inside Tight Environments initiative some refer to as Elite Airways.
To be fair, it will make it easier to fly in and out of more town halls so they can extend their carbon foot prints and paws and claws, all the while lecturing us to reduce our use of convenient and still cheaper and available oil based and other products.
All that money might be worth it for them to shake a few hands and get more photos and lines in all media venues so they can tell you about the new law they are sponsoring (not writing nor reading remember) to save the poor and the middle class who really should be on bicycles.
