Larry King Reports Sun Disappears in Asia

I have not verified this report with other “news” sources, since I do not know of any “news” sources.

Some other “information outlets” indicated that what had happened was merely a natural oft observed phenomenon where the moon slips between the earth and the sun in such a way as to cause the sun to be directly and entirely covered by the moon or some version of a partial covering. Some sources refer to an eclipse, a solar or lunar eclipse, no idea what the difference is.

Recently the great Walter Cronkite died, instigating many nostalgic look backs which unearthed remnants of ancient news sources which may mean as much as two or three decades ago for us young dot comer digerati dudes and dudesses, including YOU. Those remnants existed around the time of the creator of “that’s the way it is” evening sign off, at the end of a whole hour of news each day at dinner time. And that was replicated in the interests of free press on three channels, which were for profit and in the archaic, called “public networks” not to be confused with the public supported NPR and other types today.

Social observers note that what we once called “news” has evolved, has improved, is available 24/7 which was once just a math question, and is now more interesting and detailed and personal. Most of what we get from the information superhighways we scan today for snippets, be they on the web, the ticker at the bottom of the TV, or the loud hard rock style voice over voice cable “shows”or the neutral “networks” are completely tainted by opinion and analysis that we humans evidently require. As both Keith Olberman and  Chris Matthews say in their intros, or once did, “haaaa!” with an attitude.

Indeed, we have evolved, toward “enlightened” entertainment opinion advocacy news policies on modern information outlets. Pure Journalism is no longer taught in schools, although parts are mentioned in ancient hisory departments but not in detail sufficient to teach the extinct craft to eager young Walter Cronkites. Today Journalism Departments are growing due to the more lucrative opportunity for graduates to attain celebrity status and discover the richness of experience and wallet that comes with the making of the news. No longer must anyone, male or female have to visit the old Hollywood casting couch unless they are settling for working at the pole dance. Today, everyone does it all the time, right, so no one cares unless you are married and not pro abortion or pro gay.

Such values types are not allowed the same pecadillos as those who get married, put on rings and cheat on their spounses but because they did not specifically promote “family values” a double standard is applied to the attention they get in the MSM as if there really is one. Speaking of some of the limited values of focus, I am for lettng women and their greedy (hey, who is not greedy?) doctors decide on what to do because of an unwanted pregnancy, because that is the least worst option and babies deserve to be wanted. Tragedies all. Abortions that is.

I have also always favored letting couples decide if their intimate, hopefully life partner is of the same sex or the opposite. Occassionally I do wonder why we sometimes seem to value traditions of other countries more than our own, and marriage is traditionally between a man and a woman.

But those who opposed all along not allowing some of the basic benefits of family that married couples enjoyed, to be enjoyed by same sex couples such as visitations in hospital, legal standing in decisions and on and on, gave the GLBT movement something to fight against, like the US and Russia in the cold war. The “values” group lost because of their choice of opposing values that many humans will defend, will fight to keep what they really want, lovers, friends, drugs , alcohol, guns, and so on.

Thus they ultimately lost control of the meaning of the term Marriage, as something performed by their church, instead of sooner accepting life choices or genetics or whatever, of others and supporting all of the same benefits under a term such as a Civil Union.

Once that would have been accepted as achieving equal rights, but now those interests will stop at nothing short of Marriage. Many, many millions of dollars will be spent, may debates and jousting, but baring some unforseen occurence that is a game changer, like many believe happened on 9/11, gays will marry in all 50 states at some point.

And solar eclipses will also be seen in all 50 states, just a matter of time. And someday the sun will disappear but I do not want to ever hear that report.

Condolences, for the time for unbiased news is over, not that is was perfect as new sources always tried to let out only what they wanted let out and news reporters were always subject to gaming the news. But some of us, the less young digerati, had a real chance to learn to distinguish between humor, unbiased news, opinion, advocacy and whatever other monikers and rationalizations we have for persuasion.

Those who only grow up with the new and improved and more prevalent and ubiquitous fusion of these and other distinct journalistic disciplines, along with millons of citizen journalisit’s with no formal training, like your Chief here, will mislead on purpose or by accident. Readers will judge for good or bad, accurate or inaccurate, useful or not important depending on which social site they  live on, what friends they have and which purely partisan club they they have for whatever reason, established an affinity with.

Irreverent humor, which this front edge boomer loves, is winning in the affinity game.
