Siding With Obama

I never thought I would see the day I would support or agree with President Obama’s dogmas or agendas, however, with regards to his stance on the Iranian uprising, I have to agree with him. Yes, he’s appeased his constituents and his Democratic base by stiffening his rhetoric, but he has not attacked, censured or spewed any diatribe towards the Iranian government. As a matter of fact, he stated America has no business getting involved in another country’s politics or government. Bravo Mr. President.
For the most part our society is composed of moronic thinkers. That’s right, from the top to the bottom, hypocrites, the lot of them. Polls show 94% of Americans support the demonstrators and want our beloved president to get involved. He has been excoriated for his lack of rhetoric and protest against the Iranian government in regards to their onerous behavior. Gee, are these the same hypocritical liberals that condemned Bush for taking out the man who slaughtered tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children? Must be, 94% can’t be all elephants.
Why do I think Obama is right in his subdued behavior? It isn’t the same reason he puts forth. I believe he’s of the thought that it would jeopardize the tenuous operation in Iraq. He also doesn’t want the Iranian government using the U.S. as a scapegoat for an uprising against their oppressively autocratic government. Their revolution has been ongoing since the late 70’s and it’s an internal affair.
Myself, a different reason altogether. Force begets force, and I’m not just talking about military force or the use of violence. It’s no different than if one were to tell a child he couldn’t do something or act a certain way. If you were to use force to gain obedience, what do you get? Rebellion or ill will at best. Whether tacit, acquiescent or overt, the force, violence or objectionable behavior will be thrown back at you.
So what is one to do in this situation, with regard to Iran? I say pull back a little. We do not need to be the world police, let Iran’s neighbors put their ethics in. Let China, Germany, France, Italy, et al step up to the plate and take a turn. We need to dismantle our interloping ways. It’s not to say we can’t be compassionate, even empathetic, but in choosing a side to support one makes enemies out of the other.
Sure, we’ve had in our history other countries come to our aid, as in the American Revolution. We have succored many other countries as well. But when is enough, enough? Obama is trying to improve our image, show the world we are a compassionate people and not the war mongers we have been presumed to be. I say it’s time to let others take the reigns of war, and during that time our image will change.
