The Race is ON

Bush advised people to shop after 9/11. Obama is said to be asking people to shape up. Both missives are important and beneficial, but the shopping advice was so easy to make fun with and even get angry about because of it’s symbolism, it’s avoidance issues. all regardless of merit.

Shape up America…that means you, corporations which seemingly only care about the bottom line and not the American citizen, can raise wages, bring jobs home at higher cost, provide more human needs like good benefits; it means you legislatures and regulators, don’t you understand the damage caused by poor laws that conflict with other laws the day they are passed and how incurious and superficial regulation has enabled some spectacularly embarrassing and costly crimes to thrive way too long.

Shape up America….that means you, taxpayers who make money and can afford to pay any taxes, a dangerously shrinking and smaller group with each attempt to help those on the edge by lowering taxes, sometimes eliminating them and thanks to expansions of Reagans Earned Income Tax Credits and derivatives, rewarding families low wage work with negative taxes, unpaid rebates & refunds, it all sounds better than welfare for workers. Washington makes derivatives just like Wall Street. On the one side, those who make money should be patriotically happy to pay higher taxes without looking for offsets and without reducing the risk they are willing to take, a major impediment in today’s continuing negative market psychology, so few are willing to step back into the smoldering caldera to take normal risk, waiting on the sidelines, conserving cash, trying to preserve cash and not wither it away in an ongoing asset depression.

Shape up, individual Americans. For most Americans who have a beef with the past (most do), from minor to major, it’s time to approach the important study of family and personal history as a way to understand and then with knowledge, forgive and move on in the real world, the only one that matters. The blame and demand for reparations has to stop, because history needs to proceed and any professional shrink with their while, will tell you that how you deal with your circumstances are more important to your happiness than what happened to you, otherwise you doom YOURSELF to living in a quagmire of hurt and humiliation and angers which only hold you back and encourages you to help hold back larger society. Too many children in black and while communities are taught that the world is stacked against them because their grandfather and father were held back because they were black or because they were poor white folk with out any participation in higher society or connected to the inside track to businesses opportunities. Most of those stories probably have a large basis in fact. So what, get a gun and kill a living ancestor? That is what happens in lesser societies and we did not elect Barack Obama to create that kind of society.

Those whites, blacks, hispanics or any others who feel disenfranchised, get over it. We have all been there and if we try to fix complex and contentious, very debatable, legalistically defensible socio business issues to your sense of fairness, well, all we have is an intractable, interminable battle. And the race if off. And his great charisma and the great opportunities now in Baracks hands will get overwhelmed by every special interest demand, which I am sorry to report has no mutually beneficial solution. We must, all of us, say history starts today, I forgive those who have transgressed agains me and I ask for forgiveness as others define the need and transgressions against them, without a need for debate or further offense.

I am proud that my mostly Caucasian ancestry is well represented in Barack Obama’s history and genes. While he chose to identify with the black community, I know he has a lot of the upbringing I had, mixed with a multicultural experience I never had. I like to think of him as half caucasion and thus as ethnically close to me as he is to Senator Burriss and perhaps closer to me in a gene line up that Colin Powell. I do not feel offended that he chose the black community to mostly identify with for that means nothing but commonness for those with the right heart, which I believe Barack definitely has. We do not have to ignore our ethnic backgrounds, our religous backgrounds, our national backgrounds, as long as our priority is to forge and strengthen our Americanness today, not letting any backgrounds diminninsh our shinning stars nor rationalizing our stains. Accept and strengthen our contining opportunity to live in such an influential counry.

Does any of this mean that Barack will not be  a mean partisan…..of course he will be a mean partisan because he has been drafted into that governmental reality, despite the hopes of some of our founding fathers that we not have political parties. Regardless, special interest will always organize, I just ask them to temper their power and understand their role in our complex but manageable American Reality we should on balance all be proud of.

Bush wanted to be a uniter not a divider. Letter Grade = F.
