Havin' A Goin' Away Party For The "Bushmen"

I'm havin' a party!

"What kind of party", you ask?

Since you asked, I'll tell you.

It's a "Going Away" party.

And, by the way, you are all invited, although, granted, a few of you will choose to skip the festivities because this particular "Going Away" party might give you the blues.

Speaking of blues, there will be plenty of music.

At the top of my guest list is "Ned Flanders"…I mean, Harry Shearer. Well, not exactly. What I mean to say is that the evening's entertainment will include grooving to the bluesy-country-jazzy-rockified sounds from Shearer's latest CD, "Songs of the Bushmen".

To be sure, our more conservative party guests might be offended by the collection of songs (Harry has already peeved off everyone else with his album cover) about such BushCo fan faves as, Karen Hughes, Scooter B. But, (not to encourage the overconsumption of alcoholic libations) after a couple of shots of something a whole lot stronger than, let's say, your average wine cooler, most of the party guests might not realize that the songs have a real message about all the wonder(cough)ful things that 8 years of George Dubya have wrought.

This is not to say that you need to (or would even want to) be under the influence while listening to "Songs of the Bushmen". Amongst the sharp-tongued satirical wit, there is actually a little bit of entertaining music playing beneath the biting lyrics (sorry, as a musician it's impossible for me to just listen to any CD that has music without commenting, even though the music is not really the point, it's the satire and dry wit–which, by the way, is pretty good).

So, anyway, the big shindig is scheduled for January 19, 2009 (that's the eve of the next presidential inauguration). But, you don't have to wait until then to listen in on Harry Shearer's lastest CD, it's now available for download from iTunes and Amazon.com (for you hep cats, he's got a MySpace page, too).

(P.S. Even if "The Maverick" gets wheeled into office, the party is still on. We just might be crying in our Margaritas, instead of thanking our lucky stars that Dubya will no longer be around to amuse us with his 935 Lies…)
