Threat of Terrorist Nuke Attack “Is Real.”

One Month before 9/11FBI Director Robert Mueller tells Newsmax the threat of al Qaeda getting a nuclear weapons and detonating it on America soil is real.

Newsmax says the U. S. is in a frantic race to stop a weapon of mass destruction attack on an American city. Futurist Dr. Marvin J. Cetron, who has consulted for the U.S. government, and in 1994 prepared a report for the Department of Defense warning that terrorists were planning to use commercial aircraft as guided bombs to strike a list of 100 major landmarks like: tunnels, pipelines, natural and LNG storage, malls, schools and other improbable targets.

The rub is there is simplt no wy to protect thousands of such sites. The best prophylactic is inelligence and interdiction.- i.e., to find the weapon source and cut it. Iran remains the biggest threat to supply a terror weapon. But bio-terror; chemical-terror are also problematic. The recent “salmonella” tomato incident remains unsolved and points up vulnerabilities.

  1. Richard, I believe Robert Mueller just about as much as I believe George Bush, Dick Cheney, Condoleeza Rice…and on and on. It’s an election year and it’s time to play up the terrorist ticket so we can convince the world that John McCain, because of his Vietnam “war hero” status, is the only candidate who can handle such a situation.

Do I believe that terrorists COULD get hold of some kind of nuclear device or ‘dirty’ bomb? Hell, yes. Do I believe it’s imminent and our law enforcement people are desperately scurrying around trying to protect our major cities? Hell, no.

Let’s also remember he’s telling NEWSMAX all this. Yeah.

  2. Deb:
Hopefully your “beliefs” will not lead us all to oblivion.

  3. Deb - another liar?

UCLA terrorism expert believes al-Qaeda plans to kill millions of Americans in a much different kind of attack in the future. Professor Michael Intriligator they’ll have to escalate to more major weapons, as in weapons of mass destruction. He adds that he believes that the latest video released by Osama bin Laden is a clear warning that such an attack is imminent. http://www.globalgovgroup.com/media/docs/intriligator_article_terrorismandwmd.doc His conclusions must be considered an educated guess liberally spiced with speculation. Most troubling is his description of the sorts of WMDs he proposes could be used, and the ease he contends they could be obtained and deployed and his conviction that such an attack will be staged sooner than later. Just 39% of American voters think the nation is safer today than it was before the 9/11 attacks. A larger percentage (44%) disagree. Again, there are big partisan differences on this question.

  4. Richard, if you’re reading what I said, you’ll see that I believe that it could happen. I do believe that there is a terrorist threat to America. And yes, do I think they’ll do something different than flying planes into buildings. Absolutely! They have already shown that they are not stupid.

My point is that this administration has played games with the terrorist threat scale to suit its political purposes so much over the past several years that it has become a joke. Do I believe that an attack is imminent? Sorry, I don’t. This claim has been made before. I believe that the politics of fear are at work again in an election year. This follows the same pattern of the 2004 and 2006 election years. If George Bush and his minions cannot get Americans to believe what they say, they have nobody but themselves to blame.

In addition, whether the attack happens tomorrow or two months from now or six months from now, I don’t think we’re anywhere near prepared to cope with it. Cities are not getting the money they were promised to prepare for such a terrorist attack. The ports are not safer. What I see is that all the manpower, money and effort are being poured into this albatross called Iraq.

No, we are not safer now than we were before 9-11. We are not safer now because we should have been going after the perpetrator of 9-11 in Afghanistan (and probably along the Pakistani border). We have not. In fact, our efforts in Afghanistan and our efforts to find Osama Bin Laden have been pathetic.

Within one six-month period, George Bush went from declaring Osama Bin Laden Public Enemy Number One to stating that he’s not very important at all. There are quotations that are a matter of public record. Let’s try this one on for size: Instead of blaming the Democrats if we’re attacked again, let’s blame the Bush administration because, apparently, they either couldn’t find an elephant in a kitchen cupboard or they don’t want to find it.

Somewhere out there, a terrorist is running free while we’re preoccupied in Iraq. Have you ever considered the possibility that George Bush doesn’t want to find Osama Bin Laden? Seriously, Richard, his name wouldn’t be mentioned from one end of the month to another if tapes weren’t released. Osama Bin Forgotten.

A bi-partisan 9-11 commission was formed to make recommendations to help prevent future terrorist attacks and, even though George Bush swore to take up those recommendations, few (if any) have come to fruition.

  5. Deb: Perhap your point is too convoluted for a poor scientist as me to understanbd.

  6. Richard: I wasn’t being insulting. That was not my intent. And as far as my “beliefs” leading us to oblivion, I doubt very much that my beliefs hold that much sway.
