hats off to the pollsterRasmussen reports at Noon Wednesday May 28th that John McCain attracts 47% of the vote nationwide while Barack Obama earns 43%. McCain has been “ahead” by at least two percentage points on four of the last five days. McCain is supported by 83% of Republicans and 43% of unaffiliated voters. Obama earns the vote from 70% of Democrats and 40% of unaffiliated voters.

McCain is viewed favorably by 50% of voters nationwide and unfavorably by 46%. Obama’s numbers are 48% favorable and 49% unfavorable. If John McCain is elected President, 61% of voters say it’s at least somewhat likely that he will reach across party lines and work effectively with both Republicans and Democrats. Fifty-two percent (52%) say the same will be true if Barack Obama is elected President.

A majority of both men and women think the best economic policy is to reduce regulation and taxes. So do a majority of voters in all age brackets. Democrats continue to want more government interference while Republicans and non-partisan voters want less saying government should just get out of the way.

  1. Enjoy this nominal, meaningless lead as long as you can. McCain is running virtually unopposed and only gets 83% support from his own party. Obama is still locked in political primaries in one of the most difficult situations faced by a candidate, not of his doing and against the accomplished in her own right wife of one of the most popular presidents and the first woman to really get a real shot at the presidency. That is why he is temporarily polling only 70% in support from Democrats, as Hillary supporters are still fighting the good fight. And we will be united after the convention. Sorry.

If both party’s nominees move to 90% support from their own party, well, you do the math. The House and Senate will be firmly in Democratic control and the American Dream can begin again because there are some very attractive and talented Democrats running against failed policy Republicans. Thank you for your support.
