Super delegates constitute super hypocrisy.
But the Supreme Court has upheld any political parties right to choose their candidate however they want.
IT DOES NOT NEED TO EVEN RESEMBLE DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPALS.
So the Republicans have one set of rules for the selection process and the Democrats have another. And the “Party” bosses are indeed the bosses. The processes are fraught with historical baggage including a lot of ways to try to keep the “voter” from making a mistake.
This link bares this in a way I am sure very few really understand, especially those who think their vote counts as much as any other. Bill Clinton has two votes, one counts for next to nothing like any individual vote in a pure democracy with a large population of voters. But the other, additional vote counts as 1 of 800 appointed voters of the just over 2000 required votes to get the Democratic Nomination. Together these 800 or so appointed voters are about 40% of the total required voters. The individual voters like you and I, altogether only count for about 60% of the votes.

people continue to mistake the primary for the general election. The primary is not a vote for the president, but a vote for the head of a private club who will then run for president. This whole process has me disgusted. Two clubs one slightly less exclusionary than the other select two people who are then selected by the electoral college? we hope? Or maybe the supreme court?
I cannot see the “super delegates going against the “will of the people” out right though. not in this environment. But watch what happens in “the rules committee and the two states that have been ‘punished’ will we have re-do’s in those states? they will have to be caucuses, primaries are too expensive. yet primaries are good for Obama. will they PAY for primaries in those two states? have a caucus in one a primary in the other? ??? I hope ONE of them wins BIG before then to eliminate this problem.

Senators Clinton and Obama are lavishing attention on a group that might hold the balance of power: elected officials and party leaders ? so-called ?Super Delegates? who are the ultimate insiders serving by virtue of their party position — who could decide the outcome at the convention in August. Hillary leads among them but, that could change especially if Obama continues to win the popular vote and people demand reform.
Ironically this is neither democratic nor Democrat.

your point is taken. It would not be either democratic or Democratic, as in keeping with the at least the tone and tenor of the Democratic mantra, to go do anything that would go against the popular vote in this election cycle.
The Democratic party has been fighting the idea of this imperial presidency. It would be unseemly in the very least to been now seen as a party that is “crowning” a candidate.
However, as we know, the rules committee can do many things. They could Re-do the elections in Florida and Michigan or have them do caucuses, or do nothing with them at all.
The Democratic Party needs a clear front runner to avoid this problem.
But as my mother once said, “It’s a at least a high class problem.”
Better to be split because you can’t choose between two excellent candidates than split because you can’t choose from a bunch you can’t stand.

Super Delegates were created in response to McGovern’s landslide loss to Nixon, and Jimmy Carter’s relatively ineffectual administration. Whether we like it or not, in order to be an effective candidate and president (get elected, change policy, move legislation), you need the help of some “party insiders.” If these delegates were really that invested in thwarting the will of the voters, then more of them would have already committed to a candidate. While it’s theoretically possible for the Super Delegates to go against the popular vote, it probably won’t (ever) happen (save extenuating circumstances). Instead, because the Super Delegates can change their votes up until the convention, most of them will weigh in long after the voters have made their case. At that point, it will be politically very unwise to go against the people’s decision even if things are close. Therefore, the actual role of the Super Delegates is to establish “buy in” for the people that will help the new candidate/president pull the levers of power.

When the Superdelegates vote, their presence would seem to indicate a choice of conscience has been made. But what about all of the money handed to these people by the candidates? How can anyone say these votes have not been bought? And if one takes a jaundiced perspective here (not too hard to do) it becomes apparent that it isn’t the will of the people that matters, its who you know - and how much money they put in the hands of the Superdelegates - that gauges the likelihood of a vote going either way.
Concerning primary versus general election: the winnowing of the field, the selection of a single candidate to represent a party, in effect makes the general election really a specific election of one candidate versus the opposition. And if the people really have the ability to select that person, it is critical that their vote should count. Otherwise, the appearance of a well-oiled machine is more than just an appearance, but a reality. So in this particular selection process, unlike the general election where the electoral college decides who ‘really won’, now is the time to appreciate the will of the voter. The concept of a Superdelegate stinks!
Oh, and the Michigan/Florida debacle? If a rule is made (and candidates stump or not, are placed on the ballot or not), that rule should stand. Otherwise, the candidates would have behaved differently, would have approached the electorate in a different manner, and results may have been quite different than what they are now. The people of those States could have viewed the rules as specified and obey them: they chose not to, and why should there be a different accountability now?

Although the temps were frigid here in WI, turnout was so high in my precinct that they ran out of the optically ballots before 4pm. Hopefully the STUPID Super Delegate thing does not extinguish this great enthusiasm.

Hillary’s poor performance has SuperDelegates reeling. Unfortunately it’s essential to follow-up on any Clinton speech with a hefty dose of truth serum. In the latest debate, Hillary regurgitated her familiar mantra that she would veto the Bush taxcuts which she says favor only the rich. That tired old populist ploy of “soak the rich”. However , a brief review of IRS statistics related to post-Bush tax cut revenues reveals exactly the opposite. Specifically, the share of individual income taxes paid by the bottom 40% of American taxpayers, as a result of expanded child tax credits and earner income tax credits, was reduced from 0% to a -4%; and, took another ten million low income Americans completely off of the tax roles. That is, a very significant four(4) % decrease. On the other end of the scale, the tax burden on the top 20% of income earners, the so-called rich, increased to a full 85% of the total tax burden. For example a Single Individual making 30K paid $8400 in taxes under Clinton; under Bush $4500. A married couple making 60K: under Clinton $16,800, under Bush $9000. So Hillaryspeak, an economic strategy that left our Nation in a RECESSION on the Clinton’s departure from the White House, would damage the poor more then any other group. One can summarize this quite simply by noting that IF Hillary’s Marxist philosophies of soaking the rich were valid, Communist societies throughout the world would be exorbitantly wealthy, in lieu of economic basket cases a’ la Castro’s Cuba. The same can be said of her forced plan for Socialized Medicine. A program which is failing miserably in such Nations as Canada and the United Kingdom. Canada, as just one example, is now experiencing a dramatic shortfall in physicians.
The second noteworthy commentary was Hillary’s closing comment, a subtle and exceedingly well choreographed re-play of the “victim card” which has thus far been so eminently successful for her. Holding back the tears, Hillary inferred that she was the most qualified to be Commander-In-Chief because she “had been tested” by the public humiliation that she was forced to endure with the forced admission of Bill’s Monica caper. The unfortunate truth is that in the absence of the “blue dress”, Hillary would have led the savaging-brigade against Monica precisely as she had done against Jennifer Flowers, Juanita Broderick, Paula Jones, Kathleen Wiley, etc., etc.. Of course, the by-invitation only audience took the bait “hook, line and sinker”.
The real question is do we want Hillary, the serial enabler, and Bill, the serial groper, to once again have the opportunity to scandalize the White House and the Presidency? Greg Neubeck

Start with the campaign contribution form his elections that came form less than credible people like Communist Chinese military generals to influence the presidency of the United Stated to those now incarcerated for illegal raising money for the Clintons.
The Whitewater debacle!
The travelgate disaster where innocent people ’s lives were ruined by the Clintons so the Clinton’s friends could get the white house travel business. The IRS was used to ruin people’s lives. False crimes were concocted and honest people raped of their good names and sanity by the corruption and greed of the Clintons.
The missing FBI files that somehow found their way to Hillary Clinton’s office.
The hiring of goons to illegally get FBI files on the Clinton’s detractors and a host of politicians to be used later for “favors” “blackmail” and the destruction of anyone in their way.
The stealing of original documents from the national archives to cover up Bill and Hillary Clinton’s crimes. Documents stuffed down the socks, pants and underwear of Sandy Berger. Clinton’s National Security Advisor and a foreign policy advisor caught stealing highly classified national security documents.
The rape, sexual abuse and cover-up of the harassment of women in the White House was sport and or game of sort for Hillary Clinton. Innocent women who came forward after being sexually harassed or worse had their reputations ruined, their careers destroyed and everyone from the IRS to the FBI thrust upon them to shut up or have everything and anything in their lives destroyed. Here is brief list of what the Clinton’s have done to women. Yes Hillary Clinton who wants women to vote for her has helped destroy so many woman as they were raped and sexually abused. This could only be done by someone who hates women.
• Eileen Wellstone, 19-year-old English woman who said Clinton sexually assaulted her after she met him at a pub near the Oxford where the future President was a student in 1969. A retired State Department employee, who asked not to be identified, confirmed that he spoke with the family of the girl and filed a report with his superiors. Clinton admitted having sex with the girl, but claimed it was consensual. The victim’s family declined to pursue the case;
• In 1972, a 22-year-old woman told campus police at Yale University that she was sexually assaulted by Clinton, a law student at the college. No charges were filed, but retired campus policemen contacted by Capitol Hill Blue confirmed the incident. The woman, tracked down by Capitol Hill Blue last week, confirmed the incident, but declined to discuss it further and would not give permission to use her name;
• In 1974, a female student at the University of Arkansas complained that then-law school instructor Bill Clinton tried to prevent her from leaving his office during a conference. She said he groped her and forced his hand inside her blouse. She complained to her faculty advisor who confronted Clinton, but Clinton claimed the student ”came on” to him. The student left the school shortly after the incident. Reached at her home in Texas, the former student confirmed the incident, but declined to go on the record with her account. Several former students at the University have confirmed the incident in confidential interviews and said there were other reports of Clinton attempting to force himself on female students;
• Broaddrick, a volunteer in Clinton’s gubernatorial campaign, said he raped her in 1978. Mrs. Broaddrick suffered a bruised and torn lip, which she said she suffered when Clinton bit her during the rape;
• From 1978-1980, during Clinton’s first term as governor of Arkansas, state troopers assigned to protect the governor were aware of at least seven complaints from women who said Clinton forced, or attempted to force, himself on them sexually. One retired state trooper said in an interview that the common joke among those assigned to protect Clinton was “who’s next?”. One former state trooper said other troopers would often escort women to the governor’s hotel room after political events, often more than one an evening;
• Carolyn Moffet, a legal secretary in Little Rock in 1979, said she met then-governor Clinton at a political fundraiser and shortly thereafter received an invitation to meet the governor in his hotel room. “I was escorted there by a state trooper. When I went in, he was sitting on a couch, wearing only an undershirt. He pointed at his penis and told me to suck it. I told him I didn’t even do that for my boyfriend and he got mad, grabbed my head and shoved it into his lap. I pulled away from him and ran out of the room.”
• Elizabeth Ward, the Miss Arkansas who won the Miss America crown in 1982, told friends she was forced by Clinton to have sex with him shortly after she won her state crown. Last year, Ward, who is now married with the last name of Gracen (from her first marriage), told an interviewer she did have sex with Clinton but said it was consensual. Close friends of Ward, however, say she still maintains privately that Clinton forced himself on her.
• Paula Corbin, an Arkansas state worker, filed a sexual harassment case against Clinton after an encounter in a Little Rock hotel room where the then-governor exposed himself and demanded oral sex. Clinton settled the case with Jones recently with an $850,000 cash payment.
• Sandra Allen James, a former Washington, DC, political fundraiser says Presidential candidate-to-be Clinton invited her to his hotel room during a political trip to the nation’s capital in 1991, pinned her against the wall and stuck his hand up her dress. She says she screamed loud enough for the Arkansas State Trooper stationed outside the hotel suite to bang on the door and ask if everything was all right, at which point Clinton released her and she fled the room. When she reported the incident to her boss, he advised her to keep her mouth shut if she wanted to keep working. Miss James has since married and left Washington. Reached at her home last week, the former Miss James said she later learned that other women suffered the same fate at Clinton’s hands when he was in Washington during his Presidential run.
• Christy Zercher, a flight attendant on Clinton’s leased campaign plane in 1992, says Presidential candidate Clinton exposed himself to her, grabbed her breasts and made explicit remarks about oral sex. A video shot on board the plane by ABC News shows an obviously inebriated Clinton with his hand between another young flight attendant’s legs. Zercher said later in an interview that White House attorney Bruce Lindsey tried to pressure her into not going public about the assault.
• Kathleen Willey, a White House volunteer, reported that Clinton grabbed her, fondled her breast and pressed her hand against his genitals during an Oval Office meeting in November, 1993. Willey, who told her story in a 60 Minutes interview, became a target of a White House-directed smear campaign after she went public.

I wish that Bill and Hillary Clinton would just take all the money they have stolen and go away. They should take the money and run as they should be in a Federal prison or tired for treason.

Why when speaking of Hillary Clintons campaign, must she be held up to account for what her husband did? I am not a fan of the clintons, but it not fair to bring in issues that are over a decade old and not related to the candidate. Hillary has her own baggage, which is her horrible voting record. Focus on that.

· Bill Clinton tripled the budget of the FBI for counterterrorism and doubled overall funding for counterterrorism.
· Bill Clinton detected and destroyed cells of Al Qaeda in over 20 countries.
· Bill Clinton created national stockpile of drugs and vaccines including 40 million doses of smallpox vaccine.
· Of Clinton’s efforts says Robert Oakley, Reagan Ambassador for Counterterrorism: “Overall, I give them very high marks” and “The only major criticism I have is the obsession with Osama”.
· Paul Bremer, current Civilian Administrator of Iraq disagrees slightly with Robert Oakley as he believed the Bill Clinton Administration had “correctly focused on bin Laden.
· Barton Gellman in the Washington Post put it best, “By any measure available, Bill Clinton left office having given greater priority to terrorism than any president before him” and was the “first administration to undertake a systematic anti-terrorist effort”.

He said “I regret having had anythig to do with it.I guarded Governor Clinton for eight years sometimes seven days and day and night in a row. I never saw him do anything wrong.”
Paula Jones sister said “Trash For Cash” Paula ws paid $50,000 by No Excuses Jeans as was Gennnifer.

It’s hilarious everybody’s arguing about everything except what matters. The government is not listening to you, nor are they counting your votes, whether it be the Bushes or the Clintons.
Why was the “broken” election/chad system in 2000, fixed by the “Help America Vote Act” so that no auditable paper trail is required? Take a guess. It was a “fix” alright.
If you want your vote to be counted in an auditable voting system, go to http://www.VoteBankAccount.com. We want to monitor the “official vote results”, so that we then are able to not only show how the voting system should be, but also prosecute the election “officials” for vote fraud, with the vote record to prove it.
Or get ready for our next appointed dictator.

You can come up with all the statistics you want to on what took place when Bill Clinton was in office, and try to make him seem like a worthy president, but the TRUTH is, he wasn’t. Everyone wants to make a certain “President” seem far better far above the others, but it just doesn’t work that way. All these numbers and “facts” you believe to be true, are not accurate. Sorry to burst bubbles out there, but you want to know the truth? Walk in their shoes for a day or a week. Truth hurts sometimes heh?

REVEREND WRIGHT is a bigot and OBAMA has disgraced himself and all black people by associating with his hate speak. I am disgusted. The very last thing AMERICA needs anywhere nar the OVAL OFFICE is a man with such terrible judgment as OBAMA has demonstrated.

Nobody is lynching anybody and this isn’t about racism. It’s about what this candidate thinks and feels about our country. Race, gender, it doesn’t matter. When someone who wants to be our next President, shows such disrespect for our country and what we stand for, they have no right even running for office.
In the very beginning, I thought we finally had a candidate who was honest, trustworthy, and showed integrity and devotion and loyalty to the American people. Who was going to keep all the promises he was making, and seemed to know what America needs in a president, which is a true leader.
Then, little by little, he would make statements that contradicted some of what he claimed to stand for as a leader of our country. It has escalated from that point to now. He has projected poor judgment, and his wife hasn’t helped him at all with the statements she has made about America and the people.
Frankly, we don’t have much to choose from with the 3 candidates left. It’s sad, but true.

I didn’t hear the candidate say anything disrespectful of our country. I didn’t hear the candidate show any sign he was less than loyal or devoted to the American people. Could it be you are seeing things in a Prejudged manner.
Should you be held responsible for everything your preacher thinks? How about your husband or wife? Do you agree on everything? Do you sometimes have deep differences of opinion with people you care for and love? Do you stop loving them for this?
I have a brother who is a born again christian, right wing Republican. I, well, let’s just say I am not. But we do not stop loving each other because of these differences and I am not responsible for the decisions he makes nor is he for mine.
Let us be fair in our criticisms of one another. we are not picking the class president here. We are picking the president of our country. Shouldn’t we make our decision on more substantive issues than what is preacher says in Sunday’s sermon.

SAM ERVIN JRET - I agree that when judgment is the issue bad judgment become the problem. Barack and his wife have and are closely involved with a man who is a bigot, an anti-American and anti-Semitic. His wife’s comment closely mirror Wright’s vile beliefs, and Barack should have disassociated as surely as rejecting a Hitler; Farakhan, Malcom X, etc.

No, I do not judge people, I go by what I see and hear from this “candidate.”
When we listen to that kind of “hate” speech and we say nothing to stand up for our Country and what we stand for, silence means agreement.
If that would’ve been any candidate sitting there doing and saying nothing, it would still mean agreement.
“Barack Obama said he could not “disown” Rev. Jeremiah Wright any more than the black community or his white grandmother. He said “these people are part of me.”
Your right, we are not picking the class president here, the class president doesn’t have the power the president of our country has.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the Democratic Party and have left because of the mishandling of the current “primaries”. Since when should states not be able to have delegates seated? Gov Dean, on This Morning with George Stephanpoulos, stated that the votes of the populice “don’t count”. So why do we even bother to vote? Yhe corruption of the party is very evident. One would think that a “super delegate” should vote as his constituants did. Gov. Richards, stated that should be the case until he decided not to follow the voters in his state. Give me a break. Let’s just forget all about how the people vote and just turn it over to the “super delegates”. They make the decision with or without us. I left because my vote doesn’t matter. I am Viet Nam veteran who has been religious in voting–until now. I just don’t count, or matter any longer.

I am compelled to comment on my own post with what I just heard on the Lou Dobbs show. Others such as this site may have sent this tip to the Lou Dobbs show on Cnn.
Seems a Superdelegate named Ybarra is publicly offering his vote to either Obama or Clinton, for the first of them who gives him 20 MILLION dollars to pay for the costs to register overlooked Hispanics that will vote automatically for the Winning Bidder. Both campaigns officially say they have no interest.
Since I can not think of anything more egregious to put the point to the Super Hypocrisy of this very process the Democrats set up to keep their voters from “making mistakes” as the party bosses think they did in the past, my mind began to wonder.
Does the refusal of both Obama and Clinton, mean Ybarra might offer to sell those votes to McCain at a lower price?
