“A Woman in Charge” by Carl Bernstein & The Republicans

A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham Clinton (Vintage)Hillary held center stage tonight Jan 24, 2008 indicating what Carl Bernstein called her in his book “A Lady in Charge.”

Tonight, she was very much “in charge” of the Republican debate. Most candidates were more prepared to campaign against her than other Republicans. They seem to be looking beyond a potential Obama win in South Carolina, to Hill & Bill in the Final Two contest in November.

But anyone who counts Barack out is not aware of his ability to stay in the race financially, his personal appeal beyond progressives. Ultimately, as President he could disappoint the left and not be a complete anti Bush, or the sort of the unilateral radical diametrical in all ways to Bush, the way they long for. But for sure the overnight guests at the White House would certainly change whether it be back to the amended Hill and Bill crowd or Barack’s Buddies.

  1. General Hillary Clinton was the particular reference from the GOP debate that appeared to isolate the misogyny into its capsule, so revealing in its ridicule.

That a woman should be so bold as to fill the obvious shoes of a man seemed outrageous, and was bound into the title like a closely packed bomb as it was intended to do.

Hillary can play that game, and probably should - but only for the purposes of illustration that she can.

She might, for example, show how ridiculous it is for men to debate the issue, much less define the rules, for women’s reproductive freedom, or how and what infants need for survival.

It would be a justified analogy after all under the presumed rules of the criticism. Long have women donned the stars and stripes of female generals in the American military, yet not one man has, or ever will, fulfill the role of pregnancy, nursing and childbirth.

Men have long been due the comeuppence that this dichotomy deserves, and how ill advised it is to use gender ridicule or misogyny as the parameter by which women should be judged.

Some men never learn, however, and some men never think.

Holding a woman accountable as her fault for being a woman is as ignorant as it is for women to hold a man accountable as his fault for being a man, or to hold a black person accountable as his or her fault for being black.

Further, it is utter defiance and arrogance of any perception that humans exist because God made them as they are, and but for the grace of God, they, themselves, would be the black person, the man or the woman they criticize. It is total ignorance not to recognize that existence is by luck, albeit biological, and that this does not presuppose any privilege whatsoever within the scope of biological supremacy. Any supremacy that does exist, man has made for himself by his own hand, and his distorted mind.

Hillary might look very good in a General’s hat, actually.

  2. We suspect Hillary would not wear a hat as a General. She would do it her way, besides a google image search shows she does not wear hats and after a brief search of generals hats available on ebay at http://search.ebay.com/generals-hats_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQfromZR40
we think time has come for a change of style anyway!

  5. I think I would take this author more seriously if he/she/it had used the correct title of the book being referenced.

  6. Thank you srimbael. The correction was made and all excuses by the writer were rejected!
